Hi, HMX Devs and RockBand Bloggers! :D

Since tournaments and competitions have become a major motivation for purchasing rhythm games such as "RockBand", in "RockBand 2", would it be possible to incorporate XBOX360 System-Link play for synchronized Full Band Vs. Full Band (4 vs. 4) local multiplayer (tug-of-war and/or score-duel) gameplaying AND for 3 or 4-player score duels (instead of just 2-player)???

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemuse/xbox360/console/connecttoanotherconsole.htm

For tournaments (in particular), this feature would significantly cut down the time spent on elimination rounds and, consequently, make more time available to include more contestants.

I'm not sure if this has been addressed already, but does anybody have any thoughts on this?

(Insert that will never work by some person who never thought of this themselves)

actually, that's a great idea.

I'm not going to go as far as to say it won't work. What I will say is that for band-vs-band play the two systems would really need to be in separate rooms. Hearing the audio (and the clacky drums) from the other band would really mess people up.

As far as 4-player duels go, that would probably work fine as long as HMX did a fantastic job of syncing both versions over the network (i.e. no lag from one system to the other).

Those aren't bad ideas, but since when are competitions and tournaments the "major motivation" for purchasing Rock Band?

When club/bar/restaurant owners found more contemporary and appealing forms of interactive music entertainment (than just lame ol' karaoke) to increase patronage and subsequent revenue at their establishments on certain "deader" weeknights.

That's when.

Thats true, if you go to rock events you will see an enormous amount of competitions going on all over the U.S. I'm not sure that is the main reason people buy the game, but yes there are competitions everywhere.

Hmmm I bought it because I like to play cooperatively with people, not to stroke my ego. Guess I'm in the minority huh? :p

I think it's a nifty idea for those who can get the people together for it.

Tournaments would definitely be pretty cool for bars and stuff, they could probably make a decent amount of money. I'd like to see more bars do this, plus they can make good money off drinks cuz you know all the people who enter the tournament and have to play plastic instruments infront of an entire bar are going to have to be loaded with alcohol

I would want this.

Yeah, I would too... especially with Harmonix and Microsoft being so chummy these days. :D
I'm just praying that we don't have to wait until RockBand 3 for this feature to be included in the latest revision of the platform.

Dan Teasdale,
Can I get a comment from you on the likelihood of this being incorporated into the RockBand platform (via system update or some other means)?

that's not a bad idea. correct me if i'm wrong, but for online we only have "challenges" and not true full band vs full band duels, right? cuz it'd be even more kickarse if it there was full band vs full band ONLINE. both quickplay and ranked duals.

Mr. Teasdale doesn't come to these forums much (as far as I can tell). People also don't tend to respond very well to getting called out like that on these types of forums.

Sasquatch09, to my understanding, Rock Band 2 WILL feature full band vs.full band tug-of-war via ONLINE gameplay; you just can't use that same feature LOCALLY (which is the point of this thread). I would think the developers would have made band vs. band gameplay available via game console system-link first (since each XBox console can ONLY "hold" 4 players simultaneously) before making the feature available via online play.

I understand your point, but I just feel like my threads/questions are always the ones that get ignored. I guess I should direct the question to any Harmonix developer who is authorized to give an official answer on this topic.

I wish they'd incorporate this feature as well.

But please.... let's not even think about Rock Band 3 until AT LEAST October, mmkay?

If this feature isn't added, couldn't you just simply have 2 x-boxes setup anyhow and just start both at the same time?

it would be a nuisance getting the audio to be properly synced to each other. This will cause either hearing the audio twice a split second after, or only using the audio from one xbox and having the other xbox calibrated to the audio wrong.

Sasquatch09, to my understanding, Rock Band 2 WILL feature full band vs.full band tug-of-war via ONLINE gameplay;

From Dan's blog ("http://www.rockband.com/rockers_blog_entry/hmxspraynwipe/387742):
" * Battle of the Bands is our flagship feature in Rock Band 2. This isn't just 4v4 - in the words of PR Coordinator John Drake, "four versus four is what I like to call a band sissyfight in the parking lot after a gig". Instead, this is your band battling against your entire friends list, then once you're the #1 friend, the entire world!""

I think that answers your question.;)

Oh well, I was wrong about my forecast of FULL BAND VS. FULL BAND online duels being in RB2...
But, can we revisit this topic for inclusion into RockBand 3, people? (HMX devs included)
