View Full Version : Interoperability questions

Hi all,
I checked the FAQ first, but there don't actually seem to be any FAQ. I have some questions about Rock Band on different systems which I haven't seen answered anywhere (admittedly I haven't been looking too terribly hard):
Will 360 players and PS3 players would be able to play with each other over the network.
Also, will controllers from the Guitar Hero series work in Rock Band? (GH/GH2 or GH3 controller on PS2; GH2 or GH3 on 360; GH3 on PS3) It would be nice to use an existing controller for bass.
Does the PS2 version have limits to its functionality? (Will 4 players be able to play with a multitap or will there be a 2 player maximum? Will there be any network play or local multiplayer only?)
Will all downloadable content be available on all platforms that support it? (Assuming PS2 won't support it. It would suck to have 360-only or PS3-only tracks.
Also, a non-interoperability question: Is there a band face-off mode? That would melt my face.
Edit: I found this thread (http://community.rockband.com/vbforum/showthread.php?t=5501), where some of the same questions are speculated on. I guess there's just no official info. Oh well.

No, you can only play with the same system.

The older guitars should work, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

For the PS2, there is no online play, but there is almost definitely 4 person local play. If the mic and drums use the USB ports, then a multitap or USB shouldn't be needed, but they haven't released any info on this yet.
Will all downloadable content be available on all platforms that support it? (Assuming PS2 won't support it. It would suck to have 360-only or PS3-only tracks.
No PS2 DLC, but the 360 and PS3 DLC will likely have all the same tracks.
Also, a non-interoperability question: Is there a band face-off mode? That would melt my face.
Alex confirmed that there is no band vs band battle mode. Maybe for RB2...

No

They have been reporter as being able to work.

Haven't seen much on this, but I wouls assume a multitap would work.

The PS2 won't have DLC. But there has been rumor that at a later date, there may be an expansion disc.

Thanks for the quick answers, people. I guess that makes up my mind as to which console I'm going to have to get for RB, as most of the people I'd want to play with have PS3 or are planning to get PS3 in the near future. I'll probably pick one up in the next couple of days along with the PS3 GH3 (instead of PS2)... if I'm going to be getting a new console anyway, might as well get GH3 for the newer one.
I saw on another topic here as i was searching around that the GH3 controllers might explicitly break compatibility w/ RB. That would be really lame if true.
