Best Buy Rock Band demo confirmed

Just got a call from a friend who works at best buy. They received their RB demo today and will be putting it out on display this Sunday! My friend does not know if it's company-wide so check your areas best buys this weekend and report back here if your location has one so people can know ahead of time - unless of course it does turn out to be company-wide. For anyone in my area, the confirmed store is:

Pineville, NC (Charlotte area), across from Carolina Place Mall


I seem to remember another friend who works at Independence Blvd store in Charlotte saying something about this a week or two ago as well.

He's saying that this is very likely the full game. The box it was sent in is as it will be when released; full graphics, "Rock Band Special Edition", etc.. The UPC on the box is the same as the actual product. When the UPC is scanned it shows up in the system as the actual product, not some demo version. He can't open it to check it so this is not 100% yet. It's possible they made a special shipment group that included a demo disc inside rather than the full game. Just wanted to pass on this tasty tidbit of info :)

This will be the first test to see if Rock Band can truly steal GH's thunder. We're all converts, but I'd imagine that most of the unwashed masses are unaware of what is going to hit them when Rock Band comes to town.

Haha, that's great. I wondered what the 'move' would be to try and offset the GH3 release, looks like this is probably it. Kinda surprising Best Buy wouldn't hold off a day or two, try to get as many gh3 sales first, then put it up.

Unlikely, though it would be cool. They're right next to each other, and there'd be too much music conflict. They've usually had a music game on one TV and something non-musical on the other, until GH2 got too old. Recently, it's been basketball games on both TVs, one 360 and one PS3, with GH2 360 demos on smaller TVs off to the side.

I'd expect one Rock Band demo, GH3 demos on those smaller TVs...maybe some Wii demo on the other TV? That could work.

i would not be surprised by this at all. i posted in a PR thread long time ago that a wise move would be to have best buy/circuit city have the playable game on display like they currently do with GH. and if im not mistaken those "demos" are the full games. and we already know that the full game has already shipped out to the media for full review so it's no wonder the big retailers would get an early copy of the full game too for in-store demos to reel in consumers.

maybe times have changed, but at that age i recall if i couldnt use the car, usually one of my friends could borrow some wheels. hell there were even the spoiled ones that got brand new cars after getting their license.

in any case are there any other alternatives? bike, walk, bus? or round up some friends and split a cab fare if it's not ridiculously far away. stay at the store all day for some rocking. then see if a parent can pick you guys up :)

Kotakuite faithful Adam didn't just email us with news that the Rock Band demo kits were hitting Best Buy stores today, he actually went back to his local BB to fetch us some picture proof. And good thing he did, because the music game demo isn't just hitting stores the same day as Guitar Hero III goes on sale, it's all over the competition like an alpha mom on a Wii.

Apparently the demo kiosk, at least in this particular Best Buy, is literally set up within the wire racks housing Guitar Hero III. And if that weren't enough of a thunder-stealer, the ads above the wire racks are for Rock Band. Now Guitar Hero III knows what its like to have Rock Band inside of it and I suspect it's not happy.

Adam ads that the demo features 15 songs, that it was set up on a 360 with a 4-way USB port. Oh and for some reason there was no bass pedal included with the demo.

Looks like we get the demo from the Tour bus.

isnt the pedal connected by a coiled wire? so you could technically place it anywhere, although in that pictured set up you would be playing the drums like a marching band drummer (standing), and so stepping on the pedal might feel a bit strange.

im sure each store will vary in their setups. dont some of your local best buys have the GH game on a big TV with a couch and everything? both our local best buys and the lone circuit city have it on the floor like that. almost looks like a living room.

Well, looks like I was beaten to the punch. Oh well, anyways, as you all know, they are definitely going to be setup as demos in BB. Right next to GH3. The only thing that I really could confirm is that foreplay/long time is going to be in the game. And I think it was already confirmed elsewhere. Nevertheless. The BB display shown should not have been hooked up yet, but glad someone else got pics. I wasn't able to open the box. They are scheduled to be hooked up the "Week of the 28th" But I will tell you now....i fought the urge all night to just take the box and run home. Very hard urge to fight.

I wonder if the no base pedal is a local thing or not. As for auto fail, I think not, at least on medium. I KNOW you can get through easy without it(as long as you nail everything else) and possibly medium on some songs...

put it this way.... A drummer will almost always get the longest note streak if they aren't completely without rhythm, so on medium/easy, the base=less notes/sum

It may not dissuade a lot of GH3 sales, but it will surely convince a few to come back a month later for another purchase.

Hi. I was just browsing your forum and I came across this thread and I just wanted to say that I was at my local Best Buy tonight and they already had the game set up. I have to say that playing the drums was very very fun. I don't have much coordination when it comes to beating the skins so I was just playing on medium, but it was still awesome. Until tonight I have been more eager to play GH3 but after improvising my own fills in Paranoid I would have to say that I am sold on Rock Band.

I did also play the guitar (on expert)a little bit but I found myself failing songs rather quickly. I am really used to the GH fret board and notes so my timing was off by quite a bit, but that might also be because they didn't collaborate the lag. Either way it was kind of embarassing failing Say It Ain't So at like 5%. As for the Stratocaster itself, it looks beautiful but I don't really like feel of the fret buttons or the strum bar. They seem to feel kind of mushy compared to the GH gibsons.

Either way I think I am going to have to purchase a 360 so I can play this game.

Ahh ok that's kind of good then. Having the kick pedal would really also require a seat and that would take up too much room for many Best Buys. I'm glad they at least took the notes out so the lack of kick pedal doesn't really matter.

Nah their wasn't a line just a couple of kids were playing it when i walked up, and after i gave them a death stare they left. My friend and I were cycling songs with other people there but we were the only constant people. Plus they way they had it setup you had to stand to play the drums, so a kick pedal wouldn't have been resonable. Another note was they had no advertising for it at all. The girl at Best Buy was saying they should actually recieve the games sunday. Once again i was a tad in aw so i don't know if she ment this Sunday or which one. I told her i would get her $100 dollars plus the cost of the game if she would give it to me early but i couldn't persuade her. So if you guys "know" at one at Best Buy try to work your magic!

maybe they weren't given any specific date to set it up on? I mean some had it set up on Friday. I guess certain best buy's are just not bothering to set it up or not. I'm really hoping my best buy has it I mean it's about 20 minutes out of my way damnit!

I went to the Best Buy right next to their corporate headquarters, and they didn't have a RB demo, nor did they know when they would. Fortunately I was able to gesture angrily at BB headquarters on my way out. Another nearby BB said the date to get their demo was the 29th.

Oddly enough, both stores had GH2 and SingStar (the really old one) set up as demos. I don't think they'll have much trouble making space ;)

i just got back from my best buy and they didn't have it. They had a blank TV next to a GH2 display that said "Rock Band video game coming soon". I ended up playing GH2 and amazed some little kid who called me his hero. Then I sang Should I Stay or Should I Go on singstar and rocked it. Me and my friends are going again tommorow to see if they have it again.

the Levittown one had the GH2 XBOX360 display off, and there was a note that said "Guitar Hero 2 Doesn't Work, Sorry!" and next to it, an official banner that said "Rock Band video game coming soon"

they also had Logitech USB Mics
