Seriously, I may have discovered the smallest little tip that makes all the difference in the world. This is a simple as dirt tweak that will make you smile more times then you notice from here on out.
This works particularly well with systems that have surround sound, but it should add a boost to any set up.
Read on...
Go into the Options Menu and enter the Audio Options.
Enable Dolby and Bass Boost (I suppose this is a personal preference)
Lower each of the audio volume sliders down to about 25-33% of the full bar.
Leave the Crowd Volume at 100%.
Turn your TV or Speakers up to compensate for the lowered sliders.
What this does...
This will make the crowd go WILD! When you are in a good groove and banging out all your notes, the entire crowd goes crazy singing and chanting. This is normally heard in game very faintly. Sometimes it is completely drowned out.
Trust me on this... Having a loud and responsive crowd (one that you can notice anyway) makes Rock Band a ton more fun. I cant tell you how many times I just smiled and chuckled at the fans when they started singing along while I played the Drums.
Good Stuff!
Let me know if anyone tries this out and how you like it.

When you treat people like children, it only encourages that behavior. Such HEAVY censorship makes us look immature and weak. It's embarrassing.

If you think you will like this, then you will LOVE it.
I should warn that some songs dont seem to have a "crowd singing track". So dont be discouraged if you pick a song that doesnt have one.
The above statement could be slightly off... Let's just say that when I rock out, I live by the "Sex, Drugs and Rock & Roll" creed. Only problem is that sex is damn near impossible while drumming. The other 2 facets have to be amplified to make up for the loss of Sex. If you are following my hints here, you should be able to understand why I might be slightly off with some of my details.

That's not a bad idea. Honestly, I rarely even notice the crowd.
Although now that I think about it, I may have turned the crowd down a notch or two a long time ago.

sounds cool but I don't know if I want the crowd to drown out the song I'm playing/singing. Esspecially for the songs you don't know as well... makes it difficult to sing well if you cant hear the real singer ya know? But I may try anyway.

To the OP:
I assume that you are not hearing the crowd sing-alongs only on songs that are DLC. I don't have the thread, but I remember one of the developers commenting on not being able to have the crowd sing-along to all the tracks, only the on-disc ones.
Don't know if you knew that or not.

I bet if I had my game hooked to a damn 5.1, the crowds would sound great as they were.

Just tried this, and it is kind of cool (Wanted Dead or Alive makes a great test track). I would only recommend setting the sliders so that the music audio is at 50% rather than 25-33. I couldn't even hear the singer at those settings. Obviously adjust according to how loud you can crank your television without someone calling the cops.

I assumed he meant to lower it by about 25-33%, making it a 66-75% value.

I bought a bunch of used women's panties online, then rigged up some sort of depraved sling-shot contraption. Whenever I go into overdrive, it automatically flings a pair at me.

Quite possibly. I know when I first started playing on Easy (only played GH3 like 4 times before buying RB), the crowd would get into it and it was a little distracting. Now that I amwell past that stage, I found myself missing the crowd.

And upon further review, this doesn't appear to do much of anything with the DLC, where the crowd response is fairly generic, although I've only gone through a few songs. Ah, well.

I was assuming this, but this is the internet. that's right... THE INTERNET.
Do you have any idea how cluttered it would become if people just started throwing unconfirmed assumptions out as fact?
Mass chaos. That's what.
But thanks for the heads up. I noticed you said that it wasnt in all the DLC songs, but is it in some? I feel like I might have head the crowd in a DLC song or two, but that could just be the little green woman whispering things in my ear

No. The first guy had it right. I lowered mine to about 33%.
We just got a new sound system and it absolutely PUMPS. Hence the drastically lowered sliders.
But I fully agree that this is all relative. Do what works best for you. I suppose my suggestions are just a place to start.

I like where your head is at...
...oh wait, you have a PSN name and thus a PS3? Nevermind.
Kidding, of course. (as a side note... I dont dislike the PS3, but I still dont see anything aside from a single game here or there that makes me want it. With that said... "inFamous" might be the game that finally makes me cave in)

I suggest the exact opposite. Turn the crowd off. That way, you actually get to hear the music.
The crowd seems to me to be a novelty - after you've been playing for a long time, you don't even notice it other than that it adds a lot of background noise to the music. So I turn it off, and now it sounds more like I'm in the studio jamming with the band, which is what I prefer.
For parties, the crowd noise is fun. If you're just chillin' at home with a beer and playing some songs, the crowd just gets annoying. I want to hear the music.

They hired that Dung Heap guy who almost immediately afterwards admitted to getting so drunk that he urinated on his bass pedal. Really, the standards can't be that high.

Here's why they wouldn't hire me, or keep me very long if they did...
When I see a real problem, I don't shut up until it's either fixed, or there's a reason given for why it ISN'T going to be fixed.
So if I was on the payroll, there would have already been a fix for the slow scrolling songs in solo tour mode, for example, or we'd all have an official reason why not.
So the high up management probably wouldn't like me all too much. :D

We still got the crowd noise through the speakers, just not to the level that I wanted them. I live and play with 2 roomates and we are usually bull****ting or singing while we play, plus there are often people coming and going and whatnot that create a lot of background noise.
When I played solo, I would get the Crowd volume to come through pretty good. In fact it was during a solo session that I noticed that I wasnt hearing the crowd as much as in solo. At first I just thought that my Guitarist might have been just breaking streak now and again and that we werent filling the green bar enough. But that wasnt the case as I watched his multiplyer for a good amount of songs and determined that somethign else needed to be done.
This is totally a cosmentic (is it still cosmetic if it is audio?) change.
Some will like it. Others will not.
