From DanT's blog:
Or a bigger question.... can you switch instruments mid tour? How about mid-set list?
You can change your band lineup in between gigs. While you?re on stage, you can change instruments physically between songs just by swapping them around, but you can?t change your band?s lineup while you?re performing ? you know, just like real life.
So... is he saying that YES you can switch instruments in the WBT (Just not mid-setlist)??? Hold the phone, I think I just crapped myself. You guys all know how important that is to me!
What do the rest of you guys think?
//edit:
Reading it over I don't think that's what he means at all :(
"1: Can my Avatar play any instrument? Or when I create that Avatar, is it just a singer, or just a Drummer, and to do another instrument I must create another Avatar.
When you create a character, you create it as a drummer, guitarist or vocalist, much the same way as you?d create a class in an MMO. We also have a bunch of role-specific items that only specific roles can equip."
Damn.

He is saying you can switch your lineup, such as switch who is in your band, I'm not sure if that means your band members can switch instruments.

He also says how each character is tied down to a certain instrument, he uses the example of an MMO. I would say even if you could switch from say singing to drums, the character you have as a singer would not be able to do drums...Thats how I understand it at least.

My analysis:
All band members, except for the leader, can swap in and out as long as you're not in the middle of the setlist.
Each band member can play only one instrument, so to switch instruments you must also switch characters.

Ya, I get that now. Dial my disappointment up to 11.

You can edit the people in your band so just recreate your guy in a different slot.

The problem is that your leader NEEDS to be playable and is stuck with an instrument.

............. your kidding right?
No, this is the biggest thing for me in a game like this. You may not agree (or even understand), but I'm not asking you to.

It is true that you cant swap the EXACT person BUT just edit an existing person and TA-DAH! New person.

No, I think that you need to pick a band leader, who is stuck to that instrument. This could be a slight damper on some people's plans.

Exactly. Adding to this is that our band is already 4 strong.

You can also switch band leaders, so I guess it could still be possible.

Wait... really? I must have missed that! Well that solves the problem then.
Switch leaders, change out remaining people. Switch leaders, change out the old leader and voila, new instruments.
Kind of a pain in the ass but it'll work!

Wait, I thought band leaders were lock-ins and unswitchable..?
I don't mind this announcement... mostly because BWT is inaccessible to me, especially with today's revelation that it'll force you to play higher difficulties...
...but I still want to know if my created characters will appear in solo mode as a band with their own logo and everything, or if the other three are generic fill-ins. If you never get a real band motif going outside of BWT, then blaaargh.
