I bought the cover of Working Man when it was released and loved the song, especially the Bass. Today I downloaded the Master alternate-take on Working Man to test out the Bass. While it is not completely different in note charting, there are multiple noticable differences (From doing Expert Bass on both versions).

I have not had a chance to do the Guitar part yet, although I will try it now. I don't know the layout of the cover of Working Man's Expert chart as well as the Bass because I love Bass more, but I want to know your opinion on this version. Personally, I think it is better for some reasons (And no, not just because it has Geddy Lee singing ;))

Did you buy both versions, or did you refuse to because you already bought the cover and didn't want it again? I am keeping both because for me it is a different experience for the Bass and I can definitely tell with Guitars if there is different solos. Well, off to do Guitars :D.

How much easier is it than the cover? It's difficult to tell when you are watching a video on Youtube from someone much better than you.

EDIT: I am primarily a drummer, and the cover of Working Man is one of my favorite drum songs; what's your opinion on the drums in the master?

Well, for the Bass it is around the same difficulty. It gets faster at some parts and I feel there is more HO/POs going on (Not too many though) in the instrumental section (Usually it was only in one part I believe). I'll get to Guitars now and get back to you on that.

EDIT: I have not tried Drums yet and really can't. My brother just broke my Bass pedal so I can't play it well. I'm not too familiar with the drums, but I did like playing them. My guess would that it would be roughly the same or close.

EDIT2: I just did the Guitars on Working Man (Vault Edition) and I believe it is easier than the guitar for the cover. My reasoning is that I usually have trouble on the cover on Expert (Although I might be able to do it now, haven't tried in awhile, too attached to Bass) and I got through this version without too much trouble. There are some differences before the solos as there should, and the solos are different. Overall, I say this is a great version and is NOT an exact replica of the cover of Working Man with Geddy's vocals.

I had not bought the cover, but I did buy the master today. I think it is great, but obviously cannot compare it to the cover version. I doubt that I'll buy the cover version but that's primarily because I have enough songs that I still want to buy already. :)

I have the working man cover. I like the master much better but I don't want to have both on my hard drive (I will be buying RHCP this week and the WHO next week for sure). As a PS3 owner if I can't delete an individual song. So I probably won't be buying the master; at least anytime soon.

The master just destroys the cover, in my opinion. It just takes me back to my 70's prog rock roots and I rockgasm all over the guitar solo on this song. Now if we could get some Yes, Genesis, Camel...

is the new version really worth it? I really dig the song, one of my favorites in rock band but I cant bring myself to buy two versions of the same song

Well that really would depend on each person, but personally, I doubt that I would buy two versions of the same song. Fortunately, I had not bought the cover, so it was an easy call for me. I'm kinda with you on this one though that buying multiple copies of the same song sucks big time. I don't mind that HMX rereleased it, after all, they may not have realized that they would be able to get a master track when they initially released Working Man. Still, though, there are plenty of other songs for me to spend my $2 on.

Really? I'd have to kill myself if I had two of the same song on my setlist... that's just how OCD I am...

We already bought the cover waaaay back when it was released, and we bought the Master this morning. Partly because I buy all the DLC, partly because I dig Rush so much, and partly that it's so cool to have a special edition that hasn't been released before.

I also dig that my high score on the Vault edition is like 50k more than on the Cover.

Wait a minute, doesn't licensing an charting take months? And the original didn't come out not too long ago...

The solo is about the same difficulty wise, just different. I think I like it better actually. Apart from that and a few things here and there in the charts and the mix it's not all that different from the cover. After playing both I think the cover was pretty darned good.

I dig the cover actually. Yes teh singer sucks, but the song is mostly solos and jamming and the cover nails it all. I am still undecided if I am getting the new one or not. I honestly think I am only buying three this week however because, like so many others, as much as I want the master is just a little shy of how much I don't want the same song twice.

Well...what do ya know? It came out in January....lets see, 6 months ago?
Yeah, not long ago....yeah, they're "ripping us off" and "knew all along". Faith doesn't last long does it?

Seeing as Rush are such great fans of the game, licensing the song clearly wouldn't have taken long, especially seeing as they just found this version (hence "vault version") and this is the first release of it, ever.

Personally, I didn't mind buying Working Man again. I had about $4 left in Microsoft Points and I decided to save them from two weeks ago. Luck would have it that two Rush songs would be released and I wouldn't have to use my credit card again (But gosh darn it, I'm going to have to anyway next week for The Who).

I like the Master much better and I find the Bass a little bit different in charting, but I dig it better. Of course anything with Geddy Lee singing is a must buy :D. I don't mind having two Working Man songs in my song list, but if it becomes I problem I'll just delete the cover (I sympathize for you PS3 owners that can't do that, or atleast that what I've heard).

Actually, I think the Working Man cover is the best out of the Rush covers. Limelight is far, far worse as far as the vocals are concerned. Completely butchered it.

Charting wouldn't take nearly as long, because they had the old charts to work with. The only thing they really needed to do was rechart the solo.

While that is true, some other parts were recharted to fit with the song better. I can see some difference in both the Guitar and Bass on Expert that it is different. The solo is definitely different though and I'm glad that we got a Master of Working Man that was never released. But much of the charting is similar/the same so it would be quicker.

Actully, while we can't delete that individual song, what we can do is delete all our DLC (which is in one file) then re-download whatever we want (which after you have bought it, it is free to download again). That is what I did when the DLC patches came out. Yeah, it is kinda a pain but if you download packs first and leave it going over night it takes less time than you think.

That's why I usually turn off the vocal track when I'm singing. If anyone's going to butcher the cover of a song, it's gonna be me. :p

Well, I bought the vualt edition even though I have the cover, and I am a drummer. I have to say that the Vault Edition kicks ass! There are some really cool drum rolls and fills that weren't in the cover. Also, the drums sound MUCH better, not to mention the whole song is very sharp and clear. I would reccommend it to anyone that drums.

I just played it again a few minutes ago and the Drums do sound much better than the cover. I must say that I am starting to love this Master.

Seconded, though there's a few drum fills I'm not sure I like. I'll give my verdict after I've played the song more and can figure out what the heck they look/sound like.

True, but I can see someone deleting the cover because they essentially don't want the same song twice (Or that could be a reason why they won't buy the Master). But... well, I am stuck with both, but I'm fine with that :D.

Yea, I second all the drum talk. It's all the little things, from the feel of the rhythms, to the sounds of the cymbals and drums. Pretending to play Neil Peart's kit is just an amazing experience.

Nah they completely recharted it. It doesn't take weeks to chart a song though. But by the time it is QAd etc it is probably a couple or maybe three. You can bet they have a pretty well oiled machine at this point.

I agree with the 'Bassy' part, but the Cover and the alternate-take Master both have 3 solos, just the second solo was changed (I believe that is the solo). And I definitely love this Master.

The "Vault Edition" is a real treat to play! Maybe it's having Geddy on vocals, or the alternative solo, or the noted "bassy" sound, or maybe it's just the elitist in me wanting a real Master track, but this is worth the extra $2. Not sure I'll play the cover version again.

I have both versions. I think the master is more fun for some reason. The solos in the cover are harder in my opinion. But hard doesn't equal fun. I beat both 4 stars on the cover, 5 stars on the original.

Haven't tried it on bass or drums.

I found the solos to be much easier in the master for guitar. The outro for master is harder, and the overall parts are tougher than the cover, but the solos are easier. Not less fun though, still fun as hell. I think I like it better than the cover, but the solos in the cover I definetely like better.

I'd buy Limelight, Tom Sawyer, Run to the Hills, and The Number of the Beast, Masters. Great songs, but best sung by Geddy Lee (Limelight and Tom Sawyer) and Bruce Dickinson (Run to the Hills and The Number of the Beast).

Oh god yes. After playing it on every instrument once (vocals at a friends house), I deemed it forbidden to play. Horrible cover. Surprising, since the RTTH cover was actually pretty good.

I loved the cover version, but I reallllllllly love the vault edition. It just feels more epic.

The basic riff sounds about the same(didn't play it on guitar yet), but the solos are mad crazy sounding.
