View Full Version : PS3 Owners: What will you do with your month?

So with the leaked release date for RB2 on PS3 being October 19th, I ask you, what will you do between the 360 release date and the PS3 release date. Obviously because of the exclusive early release for the 360, M$ would like you to go buy a 360 to play early, so let's see how many actually will.
*EDIT* The Sit and Wait Anxiously option includes playing RB1 until RB2 comes out...in case that wasn't clear.

I prefer the sixth option...
Hope that there is a bug or issue with the instruments that is sorted out in time for PS3 release.
Think that's a terrible thing to hope for? Well it is, and it's not like me, but the way that the 360 users on these forums have treated the PS3 users in relation to this- karma my friends.

QFT. I hope bugs pop up on the 360 and they come on the boards all *****y and whining that way they know the feeling. 360 to become our beta testers.

No. Because I didn't see one 360 user have anything nice to say to the PS3 users, on this board, I will not shed a tear if a problem arises for them at release.
You get treated the same way you treat people.

What if the delay were 3 months? I'm assuming the "leaked" date is the one from Amazon.com or some other retailer, and they're known for just making dates up when they know something is coming eventually in order to encourage pre-orders.

I don't believe this leak.
me too. With all the features of the 360 version I don't see HMX developing them on the PS3 so easily, and so soon (I was expecting a christmas release at least). I'll wait and see the reviews first, and no, I have a 360 but I'm not gonna buy RB 2 and the DLC again just to play that.
So my option was:
"I wasn't planning on buying until later in the year anyway"
Goshdarnit
07-08-2008, 06:15 PM
Needs another option. I'll patiently carry on playing RB1 until RB2 gets released, whether that date is right or not. It's only a game, and I can wait. Especially as I can carry on rocking in the meantime, AND downloading the new DLC. I'm certainly not about to buy an X360 just to play this on it earlier. Especially with all my PS3 DLC. That's a big hit to take financially. And it's also playing right into Mr Gates' hands. I'd rather wait patiently, smug in the knowledge that he's wasted his money.

I'm going to pretend that I care more about the 14 credit hours I have left until I graduate college, and then the GRE I have to study for. That way it won't matter how long I wait.
I'm shocked that wasn't an option.

I'm going to play Rockband until I get RB2. I will probably subconciously hit my drums a little harder so they break and I can justify to myself the purchase of the new velocity sensing, quieter, better rebounding drums.
Twitching will not be optional.

If you're not gonna buy RB2 just because the 360 gets it a month early. You're pathetic, because lets face it what if the game came out for everything a month later. No one would complain, just shut up. It's useless to cry on these forums; HMX told us straight up what they will do.
My buddies got 360's, might play there. I don't know, but I will just get a new game sometime then and pass the time. I don't know if it will be hard to play RB1 when RB2 is already out on one system. Cause I might, I mean I can't even touch Madden 08 with 09 looming over head, even though I was like 6 months away from the date. Ehhhh!

So you open up with a malicious wish that things go wrong for every 360 user, follow it up by saying that you know it's "a terrible hope" and then conclude that such things are out of character for you ... But it's okay because you didn't see any 360 users being sympathetic to you on this forum.
You're right, I was totally out of left field there, I can't imagine where I got that from. Your strength of character remains schadenfreude-free.
For the record, I saw multiple 360 users in one of the 70+ page PS3 threads speaking up and expressing that they thought it was wrong that the PS3 users were being delayed. And I, too, will say that I think it sucks and that I'm sorry Rock Band 2 won't be available for everybody at the same time.
But by all means, keep hoping really, really hard that my experience will be poor. I know I deserve it for choosing to spend my money differently than you.

YOU(specifically) may not deserve for it not to work properly. But YOUR group(that you chose, tend to). The complete lack of respect and ridiculous comments towards the PS3 users on this board was ridiculous.
When you have PS3 users asking mods to close a thread that's about an issue relevant to them because SO MANY 360 users are weighing in with out-of-hand comments(WHEN IT DOESN'T EVEN EFFECT THEM)- yeah I would say that I am justified with my hope.
You deserve to suffer from a bug/broken instruments as much as I(a ps3 user) deserve the bugs/and delay of release that I have to suffer through.

I just wanted to voice a little bit about moral relativism.
The notion that you feel justified in wishing ill on other consumers just because someone talked trash to you is very irresponsible--obviously.
We can always find a reason to feel smug or to feel slighted, but it's obnoxious to be grouped in either category. I didn't get on here and trash talk Wii owners or people from the UK that got Rock Band after I did and I don't take it personally that a small faction of people (usually children with no sense of real world responsibility) got on and razzed me, a PS3 owner, for getting the game late, or getting DLC two days later.
Most 360 owners that can afford Rock Band and the DLC are probably rational adults with better things to do that wish ill on me for owning a PS3 and as a rational (and I hope respectable) adult, I have no time to be angry or impatient that I'll get Rock Band a little later.
Furthermore, people who do react in a smug or angry way in either direction paints their respective groups as petty, childish and immature. This wouldn't be so bad if people with that attitude didn't constitute such a vocal minority that it starts to sound like the majority.
I'm a PS3 owner, I love that Rock Band 2 is coming out WAY before we expected it to. If I have to wait a little longer then, as I said, I'll just enjoy the fact that Rock Band isn't my entire life. I have responsibilities and hobbies and so do the rest of you.
I want every version of the 360 edition to rock as hard as possible, because I want to feel justified when the PS3 version hits. What I get as a PS3 owner is a sense of security, because I'll get to watch the market, read reviews and make a much more informed decision. It'll also give the awesome underground aftermarket peripherals and pad makers time to skulk into their elf caves and cobble killer protective enhancements for the gear we know we want.
This is, by far, the longest post I've made on the Rock Band forums, but I just want to say that as a PS3 owner, I'm looking at the bright side and as a human being I want the best for other owners. This game is going to be purchased by parents for their kids and by people who don't care about system wars. I don't want some kid's gift getting busted just so that I can waggle my finger at the 360 crowd. It's silly and it is most definitely not Rock and Roll.

Ok, for the record, I posted this as a fun way to show that there are VERY few people in the world that would spend $400+ because of an "exclusive" agreement between MS and HMX. The PS3vs360 talk seems to have taken control here, and it's getting annoying.

Ah yes, but if a child never suffers any ill occurrences after acting immature- where's the reason for said person to mature?
You're right, hoping for a negative thing to happen to someone is not morally correct.
Sorry to say- welcome to the real world. Most things aren't morally correct.
I simply want the people who act smug and immature to get a taste of their own medicine.

YOU(specifically) may not deserve for it not to work properly. But YOUR group(that you chose, tend to). The complete lack of respect and ridiculous comments towards the PS3 users on this board was ridiculous.
It's the Internet. People are stupid and rude and inconsiderate and mean here as a general rule. Do you honestly - HONESTLY - think that if the situations weren't reversed and the 360 had to wait while the PS3 got Rock Band 2 that the 360 users wouldn't be every bit as vehement and the PS3 users would be very bit as obnoxious? Of course they would, because: 1) It's the Internet, and 2) People suck.
When you have PS3 users asking mods to close a thread that's about an issue relevant to them because SO MANY 360 users are weighing in with out-of-hand comments(WHEN IT DOESN'T EVEN EFFECT THEM)- yeah I would say that I am justified with my hope.
I'm not going to get into whether people should or shouldn't comment on any topic in an open forum, and I'm not going to tell you that you don't have every right to be pissed about their comments either. But c'mon. Don't try to present yourself as being someone of superior moral fiber while slinging rocks. The 360 users were petty and mean and you want to be petty and mean in return. That's okay, that's your right.
So own it. Don't be one of these two-faced "I don't usually, BUT..." jerkoffs. I doesn't work like that. Walk the high road or run around and kick everyone in the shins on the low road, but commit to one or the other.

Sorry to say- welcome to the real world. Most things aren't morally correct.
I simply want the people who act smug and immature to get a taste of their own medicine.
That's exactly what moral relativism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moral_relativism) is.
It's an attempt to justify being a complete jerk by saying, "that's just the way it is," while ignoring the responsibility of collective action. It's the same reason people justify abstinence from voting, littering, polluting and any number of things. "Well, that's the way the world is, so I may as well be a complete jerk too."
You may feel that validates you, but really it just shines a spotlight on your lack of responsibility.
Aside from that, I have a buddy with a 360 and we commute back and forth to rock. Sometimes I'm on the 360 at his place, sometimes he's on the PS3 at mine. He and I get along well and I don't want to see him, a nice guy, getting crapped on.
Since my assumption is that most adults with any sense of integrity are not the ones attacking me, the PS3 owner, in the forums, I cannot in any way justify or support your notion of come-uppance or karma. You're just as likely to see perfectly nice people with busted Christmas presents and sad kids as you are to see jerks with busted gear and a new sense of perspective.
So, I guess what I'm saying is, I disagree with your premise and as an adult who lives in a world where I know tons of people who DO have a sense of moral responsibility, I also reject your very cynical notion of how the world works.
I think that's really only how the world works for people without accountability--and most of the people on the forums seem pretty level headed. It's just that the jerks post 300 times to ever single post by the rational people. Why? Rational people are busy being people--irrational people are busy trolling forums.
Successful and proactive human beings enjoy rock band because of the group experience and the fun. They interact with their friends and gain enjoyment from the game and from the other parts of their life. They have friends because they aren't jerks to them.
The people who don't have any friends to play with get on the forums and make fun of other people because they don't have a lot of other things to do in life.
That's a gross stereotype and as a sociologist I would get busted pretty hard for that appraisal--so please don't tell the dean of my department that I said that.
I feel like you're basing your opinion on that vocal minority, even though there are four things I am certain of:
1. Most 360 owners are not jerks
2. Of the 360 owners that are jerks, there is an equal percentage of jerky PS3 owners
3. Those PS3 owners who ARE jerks would have reacted exactly the same way if we started from scratch and reversed the tables
4. I'd have been annoyed with those PS3 owners

I'll get it whenever it comes out, but the delay isn't that big of a deal to me. There's dlc between now and then, and like someone else mentioned, those of us in college have classes to pretend to care about in the fall anyway.
As far as the xbox people deserving misfortune goes, I have to say I've seen a whole lot more ps3 owners acting like spoiled children than I have 360 people taking pleasure in a bit of bad news.

That would be a fair point if that showed a representative sample of gamers. It does not.
According to a USA Today poll in 2004 (http://www.usatoday.com/tech/news/2004-05-12-gamer-demographics_x.htm), gamers are getting older. As you can read in the article I just linked, the average age of gamers is 29 and the average age of game buyers is 36. And that was four years ago.
A 2006 testimony by Adam D. Thierer in front of the Senate (http://www.theesa.com/policy/pdfs/TestimonyAdamThierer.pdf) had that number up to 30 years old for the average gamer.
The ESA's industry fact page (http://www.theesa.com/facts/index.asp) has that number up to 35 now.
So yeah, put finger quotes around "sociologist" like I haven't written 20 papers on my hobbies and their place in culture. Then pretend that I haven't got a cadre of links that actually back up my claim. My claim happens to be supported by data and is far more morally responsible.
Still, if you show us all the 29-36 year olds that are picking on you, we'll send them to their room.

I was done- until this comment: "Still, if you show us all the 29-36 year olds that are picking on you, we'll send them to their room."
You think that because you post links that somehow makes your argument of the morality of this situation more valid?
You just proved that the average gamer is older, I can send you the links of the 360 forum members that were the most vocal in the PS3 threads and we can compare the ages if you'd like.
I hate to say that you will be unpleasantly surprised when the average age of them comes up to be above 25.
It's real easy to hide behind the "oh that must be the kiddies" argument.
ALWAYS fun too, isn't it?
I put quotes around sociologist because on the internet anyone can claim anything.

Unless, of course, it's an age listed in a forum profile. That must be taken as gospel. Makes sense. Same as how the vitriolic posts in a single forum catering to the very narrow sampling of several million gamers worldwide must represent all owners of any particular console.
Science is fun!

Less likely to lie about something that is not relevant to the conversation at hand.
He could make the claim of being a sociologist to make his argument seem more compelling. Someone lying about their age on a forum profile seems irrelevant. Sure, some might lie for some unforeseen, unknown reason. Most wouldn't.

I think my point is that I'm 27, I'm not that bothered by the kiddies and I think it's silly to be. Naive I may be--but that makes me happier I guess. More joy, less anger, still get to hit stuff.
I think the problem here is that you fall into the category of people I'm talking about, so you're having trouble seeing past that. Because of that I apologize for assuming you'd respond to this in an adult way instead of the very petty way that you began.
My apologies for dragging this on everyone. I'm blowing off my Algebra homework, so really anything else was better than linear equations.

I don't follow how I am not being adult about this?

It may be off-topic but at least it's an actual decent conversation based around some intelligence.
Anyway, you wanna continue this then PM me.
Back on-topic- I will wait the month or so and buy it because it seems like it will be sweet.

This is true, but that crack about sending the 30 year olds to their rooms made me laugh, regardless.
