check this out:

So, where are we now?

Well, we didn’t make it into Rock Band. While we did learn a lot about songwriting and recording, we didn’t learn things like “play like a professional band”, “record to a click track” or “store the bass masters somewhere safe”. We ended up getting Rob in as our drummer, and Chris F moved over to guitar and singing. We did however make it into another Harmonix game that’s in development, so it’s not all bad!

If they made a freq 3, with a 130 person staff, i'm sure that would work. Plenty of time to make that game as well as pump out the dlc.

Man their next project better be something like "Blues Hero", or "Woodstock Simulator".

Seriously guys, we need a Wooodstock Simulator.

My head says "new big project" but my heart says "XBLA! XBLA!"

I think if a new project is in the works, it's going to be radically different than Rock Band. I don't see how they could take the plastic instrument genre any further at this point outside of a totally freeform / free jamming game.

I say give us experimental little games on XBLA and then apply those experiments to Rock Band 2!

Yes to Woodstock simulator, only if it includes wizard bong and brown acid peripherals.

Although, I've been wondering, with MTV involved and all, if they would make some sort of Rap Band or something since thats what the kids seem to be listening to these days. Mic, Turntable Controller, 2nd Mic for the Hype Man( 'yeeeah!' 'uh-huh!' 'wwhut!' 'ok!' ) and a 3rd mic for the beat-boxer.

Maybe they gave 'em an OK to be in DLC.

With HMX games, you really need to understand how the game works before the song selection. You usually need to have a pretty solid game engine and understanding of the gameplay to even begin thinking about what music will work well in the game. But here, they've already made it into the game. I mean, at Harmonix bonus songs are probably chosen way ahead of main setlist songs, but it still says a lot to me about how far they are in this new game.

Either they're very far into an entirely new game (perhaps Harmonix finally says hello to the Wii in an innovative way?), or they're doing a sequel to Rock Band (which would make it very easy to choose bonus songs already).

The most likely new game in my view is another Rock Band. It's going to get big and profitable, MTV will want to milk it until the end of time, and Harmonix will probably be exclusively invested in this franchise for a long time to come. There's not much else it can be in my mind. And I would be very surprised if whatever game it turns out to be didn't use the established RB peripherals.

To everyone thinking FreQuency 3, it's probably never going to happen. :( Sony has expressed that they have no interest in another FreQ/Amp game and even declined Harmonix's offer for a FreQuency-type game on the PSP not too long ago. They're the only ones who can make it happen unfortunately since they own the IP to the franchise.
