Just another source to back up the confirmation by IGN earlier, and some new information is that their version of the Strat is NOT compatible with GH3.

Thanks for the link!

I never expected that the Strat would work on GH3, but I would be shocked if it didn't work on GH2, something that Harmonix coded.

Well, the interesting thing is the comment about Activision...

"It should be noted that things may change before Rock Band is released as the game and, perhaps, the controller aren't finalized. We went to Harmonix and RedOctane/Activision for official word.

Activision had no comment at the time of this publishing, though promised one in the near future as it is still being put together."

Promising a future comment? Either a "we don't support other games' controllers" or a "we'll patch it eventually".

Am I reading something wrong? Sounds like the GHIII guitar works with Rock Band, but the Rock Band strat doesn't work with GHIII. Wouldn't that mean the Rock Band Strat is the issue?

No I don't think so, as the HMX rep said, if the Rock band controller doesn't work with another game, questions should be directed to that game's manufacturer, implying that GHIII was made to be incompatible with the strat, which is idiotic on their part if you ask me, because considering I have a PS3, I won't be able to play multiplayer offline on GHIII unless I get another GHIII controller, which I am so not going to do. Just one more reason why GHIII will be left gathering dust on my shelf once I get RB.

Well, the most important thing for me was the GHIII Les Paul working with Rock Band, so it's good news for me.

It just seems odd that the GHIII one works with Rock Band, but not vice-versa and it's a Guitar Hero issue...

I'm in the same boat though. I mainly want two guitars for RB on PS3. I'll be happy with that, but it'd be nice to have two guitars for GHIII as well.

Interestingly, the new guitar for GH3 on the PS3 does not even work with past iterations of GH. That is, the new controller will not allow you to play GH1 or 2 on your PS3. How this happens I do not know, but the upshot being that if GH's guitar won't work with past iterations of GH on the PS3, I cannot imagine that the RB guitar will work with past iterations of GH either.

Actually it's pretty similiar to what happened with GH1 and 2. Once GH1 got popular alot of 3rd party guitars came out for it. Red Octane was not happy because this cut into thier hardware business, so a block was added to GH2 that allowed the original GH guitar to still work, but all the 3rd party guitars wouldn't work with it. This wasn't a problem with the 3rd party guitars, just a change in the game code. Eventually the other guitar makers found ways around this, but it's not surprising to see Red Octane do it again. Because HMX made the decision to allow other controllers to work in Rock Band it only makes since for Red Octane to make the Les Paul compatable with RB, they'll sell more guitars that way. It also makes since for RO to make sure the Strat does not work with GH3, again they'll sell more guitars that way. It sucks for us, but it's a win/win for RO.

I'm just happy the GH III guitar works for Rock Band. I don't really care too much that the Rock Band guitar doesn't seem to be able to work for GH III, of course this could all change within the next month, who knows. I'm more concerned about playing four person Rock Band than I am to play two player GH III.
