wow, FALL OUT BOY???? surely wasn't expecting that, ok, maybe HMX is nust trying to appeal to a more mainstream crowd also, at least it's not anything from their new cd, this song has more of a punk style than their new ****, but still dissapointing, they could've chosen much better, but rest of list, awesome

A cover of run to the hills, and fall out boy?

And people were seriously hoping for Queen and Led Zeppelin.

Question...

On this it states: "Keep in mind that each week following the release of Rock Band, new downloadable songs will be made available. Among the DLC is the entire Who's Album "Who's Next," Metallica's "One," and eighteen songs by The Grateful Dead."

So, did they not give the green light to Nirvana's Nevermind album or what?

Watch, the bonus songs are like Led Zeppelin Queen and Tool or something :P RIGHT? THAT'D ROCK, RIGHT? HAHAHA, YUP, THAT'S WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN!! /sits in corner in fetal position.

Yeah I really like 75% of this setlist and I can probably justify 20% of the 25% I don't like, but it seems like a slap in the face to have Fall out Boy in. Maybe there's some **** they couldn't control that kept other bands out, but at what point did somone stand up and say "WE MUST HAVE THIS BAND"

Keebler
10-26-2007, 11:29 AM
Someone from Fall Out Boy must have been giving "favors" if their song really ended up in this game.

Iron Maiden - great selection!

Aerosmith - never heard of this song... where are all the real hit Aerosmith songs in these games? Last Child? Same Old Song and Dance? This I guess gets lumped with the rest of these.

Fall Out Boy - NO. NO. THEY ARE NOT ROCK. They are the epitome of what sucks about music today. This song had better be A LOT of fun to play if it's in the game.

When You Were Young - another repeat track, not to mention it's a rather uninspired choice. Anything from Hot Fuss would have been a fine selection.

All in all, not as good a reveal as it should have been for the final track listing.

Like it or not, Fall Out Boy is a massively popular group, and having them in there is going to sell copies of the game.

If you can look past the fact that it's FOB, the song actually sounds really fun to play.

I really don't care if it's fun to mash on my plastic instrument, because having a band like Fall out Boy is a giant contradiction to everything this game stands for.

It does indeed come down to money, I guess. More 14 year olds are going to be begging mommy for fall out boy than Queen I'm sure, so that's the logic.

I blame EA.

I may be in the minority here but I like Dead on Arrival by FoB. I'm not a big FoB fan but that song is decent. Before you go all "Hatey" on me, youtube it.

It'll be a decent song and my guess is that some of you haters out there will enjoy it :P

You can enjoy the song but hate the artist you know.

Okay, so I take it I'm the only one who likes fallout boy huh. I also like playing some of the metal, but I am not a fan of listening too it much. Just my tastes I guess. (I am from a Jazz background anyway). I like the fact they give a wide variety of music on the setlist. It will appeal to a bigger audience and help sales. We don't want a small target audience otherwise sales suffer and then rock band would be no more. :(

Lets celebrate the diversity and not make people like myself feel "not rock" by liking Fallout Boy. I also found some of the MCR songs best to run around and jump to. I can't be the ONLY one... right?

OK, I will leave your forums now...j/k

I took a listen to the FOB tune, it's not bad. I think it's from their earlier stuff, before they were 'emo' or whatever they're coined as once you become popular on MTV.

I think it'll be like Dead! was on GH2. Everyone there was like OMG not getting 360 GH it's got MCR!!12. Well let me tell you, it's a fun song to play, and the MCR DLC weren't all that bad either.

Aerosmith? Win. Iron Maiden? Win. Killers? Not too bad just wish it wasn't a repeat.

I can't believe I'm saying that.

But it's a lot better than the crybaby bull**** off their 2005 album that got all the TV play. "Dance, Dance", "A Little Less Sixteen Candles", etc.

My only Aerosmith contact is through classic rock radio. It's one of their more bluesy songs. I wouldn't expect everyone to know, but it's basically one of their slightly less known, but still well known songs.

So...now that we know all the licensed songs I'm guessing that the final guitar tier will look like this:

-Train Kept A Rollin' - Aerosmith
-Enter Sandman - Metallica
-Highway Star - Deep Purple
-Run to the Hills - Iron Maiden
Encore: Green Grass & High Tides - The Outlaws

Maybe trading out 1 song, I think that's what the final guitar tier will look like.

Aerosmith and Iron Maiden are nice ways to round out the Main List. I'll hold judgment on FOB's DOA, though after YouTube'ing it I'm getting flashes of a guy band doing Avril Lavigne songs. I think The Killer's When You Were Young will be a surprise in enjoyability, at least I think it sounds fun to play.

Harmonix would be stupid not to include Fall Out Boy if they got the chance. The average gamer isn't going to buy this game because The Who or Deep Purple are on it, they are going to buy it because Fall Out Boy and The Killers are.

Exactly. It's 1 song out of 45. Get over it people. There were only a handful of songs from GHII that I would actually listen to away from the game. And that's one of the things that made it so enjoyable, getting to play a variety of songs that I normally wouldn't know anything about.

I'm just surprised Harmonix would let that garbage come near their game, that's all. First hugely awful song to grace a main setlist in any Harmonix game. and don't worry, i went and listened to it before I posted that comment.

You cant love all the songs in the game is impossible but even with Fall Out Boy this game just plain F'ing rocks and thats why everyone is here after all. The full band online play will rock so bad you will even forget FOB even exist, kind of bad I cant say the same thing about Queen who can forget about Queen?

OK, so I greived over FOB, but I think I'm over it. What cofuses me is the choice for the Killers. I don't have a problem with them, they aren't great, but they're fun. But they didn't pick a fun song, they picked a dull one. I mean Mr. Brightside or Smile Like You Mean It would have at least been upbeat.

True...Once again, I'm sure I'm off by at least one song... But I'm trying to get an idea of what to expect.

Yeah my guess would be the same as yours but sub out Aerosmith for Molly Hatchet, which would see Aerosmith as Tier 7's Encore.

Harmonix would be stupid not to include Fall Out Boy if they got the chance. The average gamer isn't going to buy this game because The Who or Deep Purple are on it, they are going to buy it because Fall Out Boy and The Killers are.

You'd be surprised to find out how many people will instantly be turned off by the mere mention of FOB in this game. Sure, you are definetly right it will draw SOME people in. But at the same time, it will turn quite a few away. For the purposes of the game, i'm sure it will be fun and one of the most played songs in large groups.

The Fall Out Boy song isn't awful, it's just awfully generic. It's more like Monkey Wrench than like Yes We Can. I checked it out on YouTube and it barely even registers, which is arguably even worse than being awful.

Harmonix. I must say, you let me down...severely. I was hoping for SO SO SO much more from you guys. You could have done SO much more. Honestly, Fallout boy? What were you thinking? I mean, what genius was going around saying, "You know, we could get Queen, AC/DC, or some Guns N Roses, but I mean, FALL OUT BOY IZ DA BEST CHOICE HERE!". Seriously...this is the most disappointing setlist thus far... You're seriously going to tell me that you put down Led Zeppelin, Queen, AC/DC, and Guns N Roses for a band named "The New Pornographers"? I mean, great, Run to the Hills is awesome. But nothing to be amazed about. I mean, all the amazing possibilities we could have had with Paradise City, Black Dog, Thunderstruck...ugh...I can't even think straight right now...This is such a disappointment...

Also, why was the most hated band actually put in here? I really don't like Tool, but they are so much better than the garbage of Fall out Boy. I mean, let's put this into perspective. Tool gets like, 20 threads begging you guys for their input in the game, and Fall out boy gets 50 threads begging you NOT to put them in, and you just defy all that is right, and put them in. They have such a small fanbase now, they were a fad, everyone got over them.

I also may have vehemently been dissing FoB, and i still think it was a bad choice. But you can't compare the cost of licensing a zep to New Pornographers(which is an awesome song- thanks HMX). Also, people are right about the FoB song, it is bad, but not so bad to be a Yes We Can unbearable.

It's not that simple dude.

Dude, I know it's obviously not that simple. Getting any kind of big bands for a game is hard as hell. But when you ALREADY have in with the bands, they shouldn't be that hard at ALL to get. I mean, Sweet Child Of Mine was in GHII, they should have easily got in Rock Band. People always say the nonsense "They are in GHIII, so they can't be in Rock Band!" They obviously could have been. There's no law saying that if one band is in a game, they can't be in ANYTHING else. But if you turn down Guns N Roses for ****ing Fall Out Boy, that's just pathetic.

Obviously the cost would be higher, much higher for a GnR license over a Fall out Boy license. But is no one familiar with the phrase "You have to spend money to make Money". I mean, I would love to see ANYONE try to compare the Fall out boy fan base to the Guns N Roses fan Base.

If it was just Guns N Roses songs through the ENTIRE game, I would pay upward 500 bucks for it. Hell, if it was just ONE song in the ENTIRE game, and if it was Guns N Roses, it would still sell like crazy.

Obviously you're one of them, but I would hope there aren't that many people silly enough (to put it nicely) to have their opinion of the game change so much because of one song. Seriously man, it's one song. One song you haven't even played. One song you probably determined was horrible before you ever heard it. You want to hate them and want it to be such a horrible thing that they're in the game. When it's really not a big deal. It's one song that if you don't like you'll only have to play a couple of times.

I think they had a lot of influence, in a good way. You wanna guess how Harmonix got master damn tracks for groups like The Who? I'm as willing to bash MTV as any guy, but they've been an almost entirely positive force in this game. I'm not crapping my pants with the latest batch of announcements, but its a lot better than I expected it to be, in terms of the bands involved (Maiden, Aerosmith, etc). After the last few (Outlaws, New Pornographers, etc) my hopes weren't very high for bigger name stuff.

I can understand why one of the more popular Aerosmith songs isn't in the game, because of their deal with GH 4. In any case, some Aerosmith is better than none, or at least better than a lot of other things out there.

As for Fall Out Boy, I think HMX added them into the game just to mock Activision. The idea was "we're going to put a band in the game that everyone on our forums hates, just to show you, Activision, that people will still like our game more than your game". I think. I bet that's what it was.

I think its funny how there are a lot of people saying 'this set list is horrible, i am no longer buying this game!'. Hell, I would have settled for Travelling Wilburys.

I don't care how unpopular it is, IT'S BLOODY GOOD MUSIC!!! All the modern crap that all the kids are listening to can go die in a cold damp hole.

Sure there's DLC, but I don't want to be paying more for something that should have been on the disc to begin with. I really think that HMX got it backwards, The Grateful Dead should've been on disc, and all this other crap as DLC, not force fed to us.

one shot? theres too much good music in the last 40 years to blow their load in one shot. the disc would have to have 10000000GB of space. in 40 years, its pitiful that their opinion of flagship music to lead off the game that costs almost double GH3 is such as this. i wasnt hoping for much, but this is less even than i was expecting.

You have to remember that both EA and MTV probably had some say in song selection. This is now a mainstream game genre.

I'm going to go ahead and say that Harmonix probably wasn't lobbying too much for the Fall Out Boy song. Like someone mentioned earlier, it's likely a side effect of the acquisition of Harmonix by MTV. MTV wants the popular band that sells tickets and gets TV air time to get in what looks to be a very popular game. It's good business for how MTV operates. For that one less than stellar song, we got master tracks of Blue Öyster Cult and The Who. It's more than a fair trade, I'd say. I'm really surprised we don't have more tracks from artists like Fall Out Boy in here. Everyone should be thankful that it wasn't worse.

First song of FOB's I heard. It sat on my MP3 player for two nights before I took it off.

It's one of those songs that if it comes on I won't turn the radio off, but it's far from what I'd consider something I really liked.

I think it's a song that's really good in moderation. ;)

I jsut wanted to add to the chorus that Fall Out Boy blows - while this isn't their worst song, tis' still terrible - that said, the guitar should be passable, ad with someone else singing it should be a lot more pleasant to listen to. The lyrics are still idiotic, but whatever - why would anyone listen to them over, I don't know, The Misfits? Kids today... FOB is the band you'll be embarrassed you listened to in 10 years.

Screw it, though, because that is one of my favorite Aerosmith songs (although it's actually much older - at least 1956 by Johnny Burnette, debatably the first recorded distorted electric guitar song) and Run to the Hills woul've been my choice for a Maiden song. That Killers track doesn't sound too bad, either. I couldn't be happier about Ballroom Blitz, and I actually like that Police song - the best song of theirs I've heard. That's a pretty good run - only 2 real turds (FOB and Hole) compared to GHII's 5 and GHIII's 5.

GH3 may've had some better songs, but from what I hear, that's all it has. I'm not too disappointed, so long as the DLC comes out nice. At least there's Tom Sawyer.

over half of the 2000s list is whiny, highpitched, warbly crap. im not singing that. its -1000 points to hetero.
the 90s is a little better there is only "Sabotage" (though i like the Beasties) and Hole i hate.
80s has REM that i cant stand, though "losing My Religion" is better than "Orange Crush". I am most satisfied with the 70s list, they got some home runs there.
The 60s list makes me weep. Not for what it is, but for what it should have been.
Well, DLC here I come! you guys at HMX better deliver the goods in DLC better than GH2 was.

I immediately put on some Rush to cleanse the pallet and wash that horrible taste out of my mouth.
In other news the Boston selection gives me an "eargasm" every time I hear it! (thats a good thing by the way)

William Hung at least has a great future in Engineering and has attractive women hanging on him. FOB is always going to be FOB.

What is this music they chose for the 2000s? You'd think it was the British Invasion of the 60s again. The only difference was, they did it better and it was real. this crap is rehash. invent something new, people. maybe the music will be fun, but nobody in my family is going to want to sing stuff from that era. maybe ill have the wife wash dishes or clothes while my kids and i knock those songs out.

Let's see what we have

Aerosmith Train Kept a Rollin' - Meh, Aerosmith never really did it for me, but it should be a good song to play.
Iron Maiden Run to the Hills - I've never heard it, but I've never heard an Iron Maiden Song I didn't like.
Fallout Boy Dead on Arrival - Never heard it, low expectations but it could be alright. It should at least push sales.
New Pornographers Electric Version - Never even heard of the band.
The Killers When You Were Young - Alright, this one ticks me off. Not only are the Killers a pretty mediocre band, they have way better songs for this (Somebody Told Me, Mr. Brightside.) Not to mention I don't even want to imagine the kind of tool that would want to get up there and sing this in front of a bunch of people at a party. Lame.

They could've done better, but they also could have done way worse, so I'm cool.

There's a HUGE base of players who are being ignored due to music tastes.

The set list is overall phenomenal. For those of you who don't know a lot of these songs, I think you will be pleasantly surprised by the quality of the tracks. Of course, one song does not ruin the whole set list and, yes, it is an obvious attempt to interest a younger crowd towards the game. I despise this song and wish they could have chose some other p**** ass song to appeal to a broader audience, but I will pray to god that this song does not come up often and, when it does, I will grit my teeth and wait for the other 44 very good to great songs to come up (minus DLC).

I'll weigh in here with my thoughts on this final list:

First: I'm disappointed that more 60's stuff didn't make the disc. Oh well, guess that's what DLC is fore

Second: Some pretty sweet tracks there in the 70's. While I really miss Queen, I'm sure we'll have something in DLC sooner rather than later.

Third: THe 80's section is VERY disappointing in terms of quantity (although almost all good in terms of quality). As a child of the 80's I was really hoping it would get a little more attention. The lack of Judas Priest is very upsetting but I can hope for DLC. The announcement of "Run To The Hills" was exciting because it meant the doors are now open for more Maiden tracks. I was a little disappointed due to the fact that it's a cover, but not heartbroken. They probably couldn't obtain a master track and in the past their Maiden covers have been pretty good, not great but pretty good ("The Trooper" and "Wrathchild"). Actually I really hope to see their previous two tracks added via DLC as well as the entire album of "Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son". We need a lot of 80's DLC to offset the imblanace here

Fourth: The 90's looks amazing for a decade I absolutely despised musically. It's like Harmonix picked all of the good tracks from that era.

Finally: The 00's looks atrocious. That's more a reflection on music today than on Harmonix's choices. I understand why they choose so many tracks from this era, but still I would have liked to have seen them use those selections for more 80's tracks. Oh well, it's all marketing for you. And while I disagree with choosing Fallout Boy (are they even considered music?) I understand why they were chosen.

Overall, the set list looks great and I can't wait to play this game!!! Bring on the DLC!

It's seems many poster's deeply buried self-esteem issues have been brought to the surface by the accouncement of (gasp!) Fall Out Boy. I guess i'm an ******* but i find it really rather amusing to see the reaction to one song.....I know, I know, you cannot fathom the possibility that a band that doesnt suit your personal taste in music may still actually work in this game. Just be sure to make pained grimices as you're playing the track we wouldn't want anyone watching to see you enjoying yourself now...

Ok. I won't deny it. I was terribly disappointed when I found out what the remaining songs were, as were a lot of other people here. Some bands which will remain unmentioned (*cough cough* Fall Out Boy *cough cough*) are probably not the BEST choice for Rock Band, but it was the best in Harmonix's eyes for this game, which is good enough for me. Believe me, I was pretty pissed too when I read the final setlist, but Rock Band still has great potential here. I mean, just look at the albums they could use for DLC:

Boston - Boston http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boston_%28album%29
- Has such songs as "More Than a Feeling", "Peace of Mind", "Rock n Roll Band", and "Smokin", four of the most famous songs by Boston. This album would be amazing for Rock Band and if this ever gets put up as DLC it automatically counters the disappointments in Rock Band.

Combat Rock - The Clash http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Combat_Rock
- The only song I really knew from this album other than "Should I Stay or Should I Go" was "Rock The Casbah", but after listening to this album, it would be pretty good as a DLC Album.

Stadium Arcadium - Red Hot Chili Peppers http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stadium_Arcadium
- This album has some amazing songs that incorporate all the instruments in Rock Band. I would love to see this album as DLC.

Sam's Town - The Killers http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sams_town
- I know I'm gonna get flamed for this one, but this album is actually quite good. It is reminiscent of classic rock albums and some songs even sound like they are, while still having the feel of a new age band. Like Stadium Arcadium, it has great parts for all the instruments and would be pretty fun to play.

Now, I'm not saying that any of those albums are to become DLC, but I think those would be good choices if any. Rock Band still has a lot to offer us, after it has already given us so much. Sure there's gonna be a few songs here and there that isn't gonna please everyone, but Rock Band still has so much to offer!

In any case, Rock Band is still #1 in my book! Good work Harmonix! :D

"Know Your Rights" for DLC!

All of which are on the same level of the chosen tracks for me. It's just my personal opinion of course.

Anyways, they were all chosen for marketing reasons of course. We can't have a game that just caters to us musical elite, can we?...... Hmmmmm... nah, we're probably too small a minority to sustain a game.

Anyways, DLC offers a million and one opportunities for any of our favorite bands to make it into this game, so nobody should really be complaining.

Honestly theres some fantastic music today that could have been in this game, and I feel like some of it was actually displayed.

Heres the songs I would have kept:

The Hives "Main Offender"
The Strokes "Reptilia"
Jet "Are You Gonna Be My Girl"
Queens of the Stone Age "Go With the Flow"
Nine Inch Nails "The Hand That Feeds"
Yeah Yeah Yeahs "Maps"
New Pornographers "Electric Version"

I would have took this out:

OK Go "Here It Goes Again"
Red Hot Chili Peppers "Dani California"
Coheed & Cambria "Welcome Home"
Fallout Boy "Dead on Arrival"
The Killers "When You Were Young"

And Replaced it with this:

Arctic Monkeys "Brianstorm"
System of a Down "Toxicity"
Arcade Fire "Wake Up"
RHCP "Can't Stop" (Although I would prefer old school Chili Peppers)
White Stripes "Hardest Button to Button"

The OK Go song looks like it's pretty fun to play, actually. Really, all of the songs on the setlist seem like they'll grow on me if I don't really like them at the outset.

Honestly theres some fantastic music today that could have been in this game, and I feel like some of it was actually displayed.

Heres the songs I would have kept:

The Hives "Main Offender"
The Strokes "Reptilia"
Jet "Are You Gonna Be My Girl"
Queens of the Stone Age "Go With the Flow"
Nine Inch Nails "The Hand That Feeds"
Yeah Yeah Yeahs "Maps"
New Pornographers "Electric Version"

I would have took this out:

OK Go "Here It Goes Again"
Red Hot Chili Peppers "Dani California"
Coheed & Cambria "Welcome Home"
Fallout Boy "Dead on Arrival"
The Killers "When You Were Young"

And Replaced it with this:

Arctic Monkeys "Brianstorm"
System of a Down "Toxicity"
Arcade Fire "Wake Up"
RHCP "Can't Stop" (Although I would prefer old school Chili Peppers)
White Stripes "Hardest Button to Button"

For the most part, Sushi's right, except for Ok Go. I like that song.

If the Stones get a DLC album, I hope it's Beggars Banquet, not Let It Bleed, if only for Jumping Jack Flash and Street Fighting Man.

Jumpin Jack Flash isn't on Beggars Banquet
Man I'd kill for some Sticky FIngers or Exile on Main St DLC though!
