Today’s battle is between 10 songs released between ’75 and ’77. Again, there are some really great songs in this battle. As always, please listen to the songs before voting, one of these songs you might love even though you didn’t know the name or artist. You have one week to vote.
To keep up with the entire process with schedule and results, please check the master thread: http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?t=56650

Wow, I am stuck between Thin Lizzy, Ram Jam, and the Nuge. I mean those three are epic. Wild Cherry is awesome but those three, whew. Crazy. This one might take a while.

Definitely "How Long" by Ace. I love that song and it was one of my fathers favorites. He is now deceased.
Runner up is "Black Betty".

It was a toss-up between Ace's How Long and Ram Jam's Black Betty. I chose Ram Jam in the end. Either song would be great for Rock Band, though...*coughcough*

3. Cat Scratch Fever
2. Black Betty
1. Boys Are Back In Town
Could've went either way on #1 or #2.

If these were on the list I'd vote for them over the ones on the list:
Love is a Drug, Roxy Music.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=4_KFebLWpY0
Fooled Around and Fell in Love, Elvin Bishop.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=edtl5W4XNLk
Smoke From a Distant Fire, Sanford Townsend band. One of the great pop vocals ever. Hooky as hell.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=hJDXDNxeGLE
These are all on the wiki page:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_1970s_one-hit_wonders_in_the_United_States
But from those listed my top 5 would be
5. Dream Weaver
4. Play that Funky Music
3. How Long -- love Paul Carrack, one of my favorite singers in rock history.
2. Boys are Back in Town -- love the guitar hook.
and #1
1. Love Hurts -- the arrangement of this classic is just awesome. The vocal's not the greatest, but I'll take it.

1.Thin Lizzy-Boys are Back in Town:I had no idea Thin Lizzy was a "one hit" wonder band, my vote all the way.
2.Nazareth-Love Hurts:The album is alright, not a bad song either. I may be more bias towards it because it's one of the few albums I own on vinyl.
3.Ram Jam-Black Betty:Excellent cover, I need to look these guys up to see what else do they offer.
4.Ted Nugent-Cat Scratch Fever:"Classic" song but sometimes it really does gets on my nerves.

Wow I didn't think it would be that hard of a choice, but I think I'll go with How Long.
1 How Long
2 Magic
3 Love Hurts
4 Black Betty
5 Play that Funky Music
I love How Long, My father-in-laws band does an awesome cover.

After my brief stint with a therapist due to this poll driving me temporarily insane (my co-workers saw me huddled in the corner in a fetal position) :o, thanks Sayburr.
I voted for some Ram Jam. It was tough. I tell ya I didn't think I was going to be able to click that vote now button. I was all prespirin and stuff.
Anywys, thanks for Sayburr and OB for bringing these polls to us with some awesome songs on there.

Yeah, I had to make some tough choices in weeding the lists down to ten songs each...

About Black Betty. That refrain about "ram a lamb" made me wonder,
Could this be Black Betty?

And what is ram jam anyway?
Just wondering....

How come you didn't pick Player- "Baby Come Back" for 1977? That's one of my favorite one hit wonders. Just curious....

The only "Baby Come Back" on the Wiki list was from 1968:
"Baby Come Back" The Equals 26-Oct-68 32
Thin Lizzy only had one top 40 song on the pop charts, Believe it or not.

Nevermind. "Baby Come Back" was number 1 the week of January 14, 1978. I know it came out in 77 but it wasn't on Billboard until early 78.
I have learned so much by these battles.
"Baby Come Back" broke on the radio in October 1977 and reached number one early in January. It spent three weeks at the top -- more than seven months on the charts. During that time, over two million copies were sold. Their second single, "This Time I'm in it for Love," was a Top 10 hit in the spring of 1978. "Prisoner Of Your Love" was a Top 40 hit in November of that year. Their last charting singles were for Casablanca in 1980 and RCA in 1982.
I always thought they weren't one hit wonders. I stand corrected.;) Thanks for doing these polls for us! Keep up the good work!

And you do an awesome job. Curious, though -- if you had it to do over....????????????

Well, my original plan was to do a poll for each year, so there would be 10 songs from each year. That way when it got down to what we have now, it would be top choices from each year going against one another... but I thought it would take too long to complete.
Agreed this is by far the toughest choice, (I know I said that for eveyone of these 1 hit wonder polls). I laugh at the David Soul song cause I was huge Starsky & Hutch fan back then and was all over the 45 when it came out but now I can't stand the song. The Pilot video was interesting with them having the Drummer up front and the other two behind him not sure I ever seen that setup before.
#5 - Love Hurts
#4 - Cat Scratch Fever
#3 - Dream Weaver
#2 - Play the Funk Music
and
#1 - Black Betty

Yeah -- and I doubt whether there are many years with enough one hit wonders to justify that, too.
Cheers, dude, and thanks
