Sometimes you just cant get the masters and there are tons of songs/bands i would love to have in here. Its not like you really can tell the diff when your playing it anyway.

What do you think?

on a side note, i would have much rather had the def lep version of Action, much better, but that isnt what i meant with the post.

I can always tell the difference. Some covers sound very good (Rush) some don't (Sabbath), but with all the choices we've already got, and with more on the way, I'd prefer for HMX to stick to masters from now on.

As a bonus there won't be anymore re-release issues like with Working Man. It still leaves a sour taste in my mouth the I have cover (even though it sounds pretty good) when there is a master out there.

Only cover I EVER had a very serious problem with was the Ballroom Blitz one, due to its AWFUL vocals.

I think covers should be left in. I don't want to never get a certain band because masters can't be attained.

The cover of Cherry Bomb was horrible, the singer sounds so bored. Same with Brass in Pocket.

i like the brass in pocket, didnt realize it was a cover? hum, i got cherry bomb too, rush song is good, sabbath aint too bad, i just dont want to lose a chance to play a song that they dont have the masters too is my point.

Actually anyone who knows a song well thats being covered can tell from the get go. Message in a bottle (master) in Rock Band is vastly different (and better) than the GH2 cover of it. If you know the song then yeah you can tell and it is usually quite painfull to play if not done very well, and lets face it most covers aren't done well.

The only cover in Rock Band that was done really very well was Brass in Pocket. The Vocalist did a GREAT job. Its not the most difficult song in the world but give the popularity of The Pretenders and Chrissie Hyndes' distinct vocals the girl who did do this cover was the perfect choice.

However if you are looking for the ass end of covers look no further than GH3s cover of Pride and Joy by SRV. The guitar and especially the vocals ESPECIALLY the vocals where just pounded into the ground. I mean I didn't even go through the hard tour in GH 3 because I knew I'd have to play that again. Yeah you can turn the vocals off put that just leave the horrid guitar playing.

So my point being is you're going to get really good if you are extremely lucky. Case, Brass in Pocket. Thats the only time I want to have a cover is if it's done that well. If not get a master track of a song. No one wants to hear or play an half assed cover.

Some of the songs I love most in the game are covers. It would suck to not have had them.

As long as the cover is good, I'm fine. I want more Maiden/Sabbath :[

i don't mind them much from bands I hate, train kept a rollin is a good example....but a band I love or even like I can tell in a second...all the bowie covers and sabbath covers, rush, all of those covers are horrible.

edit: that being said if there was no other way I wouldnt mind a cover on a great song

I certainly don't mind covers. I thought they did some great cover versions in the Guitar Hero games. I can understand them liking the marketing power of selling the next disc as having only masters, but I sure hope they continue to make covers available as DLC. A well done cover can be a perfectly suitable replacement. I get that fans of the covered band can get picky about them. I know if I heard an R.E.M. song with a "not Michael Stipe" it'd stick out like a sore thumb. But for most people, and even most fans, this just isn't a major issue.

If it's a good cover like
"Ten Speed (Of God's Blood and Burial)" Coheed and Cambria or
"Green Grass and High Tides" The Outlaws
i'm all for it,but if it's not a good cover even if it's a song i love i say NO.

I used to not really care if it was a cover or not. I still feel that way in the sense that I'd rather have (good) music from a particular band than not. The master version of "Working Man" almost persuades me toward the "masters only" argument.

Have you actually ever listened to an Aerosmith song????

Yes, I had, but only the obvious ones, like Dream On and Sweet Emotion. I don't know if I'm the only one who thinks this way, but Steven Tyler from Dream On... just doesn't sound like Steven Tyler. So, the perception I got from Train Kept a Rollin' came from Sweet Emotion, which I found to be similar to TKAR.

Shortly after, I got into Aerosmith (before GH: Aerosmith was announced), and realized the huge difference.

I'm just going to say, they need to redo Number of The Beast, the singer sounds like he's never even heard of the song before, plus fix the damn screaming part.
