Hello all.

I just finished reading an article about the drum training mode in Rock Band 2.

http://www.avclub.com/content/node/82519

One of the styles mentioned in this mode is called "P-P-P-Panama!"

Having never played real drums, I have no idea what this could mean.

However, as a fan of the number 1984, I sure know what I HOPE it means...

It means exactly what it says in the article. It's a particular drum beat, which yes, is a reference to the Van Halen song.

But no, I'm pretty sure it's just talking about that beat in the drum trainer, not having the full song in the game :p

Sorry for off-topic, but:

you can play by yourself with three steady non-player characters of your own design

That's the best news for me so far :p

There's also a freeplay mode, where you can play drums over mp3's that you've ripped to your console.

Well, sort of good news.

But, could they call the beat Panama without having the rights to the actual song?

Based on the fact that there are pants called 'Tragically Hipsters' in RB1, I've been hoping for some Tragically Hip for a long time...

I'd love for Panama to be in RB2, but I don't think the beat being called that necessarily means it is/will be.

Of course they can. It's not like Alex Van Halen has a copyright on that particular drum beat or the name. :p

I'm just confused on why they would use this beat as a training beat. Nothing too special there and fairly straight forward. In fact any current real drummer with some experience could copy this song without any issues. Maybe that's the point, since it's an easy song to drum to it would be a good starting point for beginners. But not really sure.

Now if the drums had cymbals, this would make more sence do to the off beat of some crash cymbal hits and teach you the easier or more common sence stick to use for these specific cymbal hits.

I'll admit that I am going off of memory (Lord help us there) and haven't heard that song for well over 10 years or more. So sorry if I'm missing something that should be smacking me upside the head that I'm overlooking.

Regarless I'm anxtious to see this trainer mode and how it can help people. I might even learn something new. You can never know it all really not to mention that you tend to develope you own pesonal drumming style after time. Either way, sweetness all around!:)

The kit also comes with new additions and peripherals, which will be revealed at E3.

Did anyone else notice this? Is anyone else as excited as I am about it?

Panama is a great song.

I know that's not the point of this thread, I'd just like to point that out.

Also, I used to think they said "Cannon-ball" when I was younger.

....yep.

Lol, you're not alone. But I play guitar (in real life, because some people won't get that) and bass (again, in real life), and I'm starting to play drums but I don't know where to start, and I NEED the drum trainer.

Not to beat a dead horse here, but I think that Van Halen is one of the most requested bands in Rock Band (along with Guns and Roses, Hendrix, etc.).

We know that Guitar Hero has VH.

Why would HMX include the name of one of the band's best tunes if they didn't have them in the game? It would be like a constant reminder that GH was able to land them while Rock Band couldn't.

Can you tell that I really want Van Halen in this game?
