Basically it's your standard powered USB2.0 hub, except this one has Rock Band on it.

Wow cool, where did you get a picture of this?
It isn't in stores already is it?

I like that it works with both systems and it is self powered, should be nice, I also like that it comes free in the bundle!

Well, it's a USB hub, and the 'U' stands for Universal. If it wasn't cross-platform, it wouldn't be USB :p

Yup, it was just chilling in Best Buy, above a rack that says "Rock Band, Coming Soon".

Considering it makes no mention of PS2 does this reaffirm the need for a multitap?

I somehow want this USB hub more than a regular USB hub....Rock Band does things to me :D

Only if the PS2 controllers are not USB. I don't seem to remember that being mentioned anywhere.

I don't remember where, but wasn't it confirmed that the PS2 and PS3 instruments were the same, or at least compatable with each other? If so it would mean the PS2 ones would have to be usb.

Um, if it's going to be packed in the bundle, what's the point of selling it separately?

So hopefully this is the one packaged in the bundle correct? It really wouldn't make sense to send out a non-powered USB Hub.

Um, if it's going to be packed in the bundle, what's the point of selling it separately?

Same reason the instruments are sold separately, or will be sold separately :p

Okay, but that's not until next year.. so why sell it so early?

Can't really answer that one, then again... It'd be nice to have one just to plug in your bass and lead guitars. Only thing I could think of it for now, Oh and the people that buy other parts on ebay.

well aren't they selling just the game also? i thought that it was the bundle for sale and also the stand alone game. then instruments next year. im guessing its for people who only want to play guitar and bass. also usb mics work so idk i guess that explains it.

Why not? It's just a branded USB hub. No reason not to make money.

AFAIK it's only in the 360 bundle, so it might need to be sold for people who buy the PS2 bundle depending on how those instruments hook up. Sony is also releasing a model of the PS3 that only has 2 usb ports, so those ppl would need it to.

the reason theyre selling it seperately is so you arent screwed if you lose the one that comes in the bundle

ummmm, this is probably the stupidest question ever but im told its better to be safe than sorry :P

if its self powered, does that mean that it runs off the power from your 360/PS3 or you need to plug it into a plug socket?

thanks for your help :)

It will have it's own power cord so that you're not drawing power from the console. :)

Mmm, Not necessarily. Power is part of the USB specification... meaning that many devices (like a scanner that I have) draw electric power through the USB cable off the bus to fully power them.

I'd think that a hub would work in this manner. I think that 'self powered' in this case means that you don't have to plug the hub in to the wall for power... but that it will draw its power from the game console.

Guys, it says in the pic "Self Powered: Powered by an AC Adapter so it will not draw power from your console letting your system run cooler."

If all four instruments were drawing power, your 360 wouldn't run the game so much as it would erupt like an angry, mini volcano.

If all four instruments were drawing power, your 360 wouldn't run the game so much as it would erupt like an angry, mini volcano.

Each port can put out no more than 500mA. So, technically, plugging in 4 USB periphs directly to the console uses more (console) power than 4 plugged into a hub, which is plugged into one port.

If all the instruments are high-power and the hub wasn't powered, your 360 (or PS3) wouldn't erupt into flames. The USB would just not have power and the instruments wouldn't run.

It's nice that they're selling a branded hub for those that don't know, but at the end of the day, it's still just a regular powered USB hub.

Um, if it's going to be packed in the bundle, what's the point of selling it separately?

The other thing is people that are buying the new 40GB PS3 and are intending to play Rock Band with a full crew HAVE to buy this USB port separately, because the PS3 version of the bundle doesn't include this hub. The 20/60/80GB models all have four free USB ports. The new 40GB models going on sale have only TWO.

So I imagine that this separate hub is going on sale more for them than anyone else.
