i haven't seen this posted yet, so here goes:

how are you supposed to know when to hit the yellow tom and when to hit the yellow cymbal (same goes for blue)?

before anyone posts some stupid comments about how you can hit either and it doesn't matter, i get it that you can hit either one. i get it that the cymbals are added for more authenticity (even though they're technically redundant pads).

the real question is are you supposed to just study each song enough to know which yellow/blue note is a cymbal and which is a tom? or are there going to be some kind of visual cues on screen to let you know which to hit?

I'm pretty sure that you're the AgainstOne I was talking to on Kotaku, so here's what I posted there that you missed.

"Well, I doubt that they would differentiate it seeing as how only the really hardcore gamer/drummer population are going to get the cymbals. My best suggestion is to use the Juke Box mode in RB2. The Juke Box Mode just plays the songs along with the animations that they use for when someone is playing. Memorization is your best friend. Or you could just get sheet music for the songs off of the internet. :p"

i saw that actually, but i think it would be pretty easy for them to differentiate them visually without differentiating them functionally (kinda like how HO/PO look slightly different but you can still strum them the same as regular notes).

i decided that it would be unlikely for anyone over at kotaku to actually know for sure the answer to my question. i thought i'd have a much better chance of getting an answer from someone at HMX if i actually posted the question here.

Yes, but ,as I said, only the hardcore will pay extra for cymbals, so there would be no point in spending the time and money to differentiate it when only a small portion of your userbase is actually going to need the diferrentiation.

you seem to forget that cymbals will also be available for the standard drum kit as well. i hardly think that only the hardcore will pay for cymbals, as the cymbals are the main feature that people are clamoring over about the GH:WT drum kit.

i'm hardly hardcore (haven't even finished solo tour on hard drums yet), and i want the cymbals for a more authentic experience.

they are the same thing its just meant to have a better, more realistic feel to it

and be an electronic drum set

No visual cue for the next version. They may add a version that incorperates the cymbals later which is what the expansion area is for on the regular drum set.

For now, you just have to listen to the song and play what sounds right. Obviously the cymbal sounds different than a tom....

Trust me, you're hardcore. If you come and post on these forums and read gaming news websites, then you're hardcore. Also, even though cymbals are an add on for the standard drum set, not many people are going to make use of them because

1. They aren't included with the bundle
2. They don't add any functionality.

Even though it is more immersive, there's no point to them unless you're going to be buying the e-drum set. The extra cymbals can be best likened to all the extra peripherals for the Wiimotes such as the tennis rack shells. Sure they make for a more immersive experience, but overall they're pointless. The reason that people are clamoring for the feature in GH:WT is because it actuallly adds features unlike the cymbal add ons for RB2 drums. They do however have a point with the ION kit because it is a real kit.
