Anyone Fall for the GH3 Bait and Switch?

All the 360 GH3 copies at my local Walmart came bundled with the crappy Xplorer controller. It's good to see Activision pulling the old bait and switch to unload their backstock of GH2 controllers.

Watch for what you're getting if you happen to go out shopping for your GH3 later.

I've seen photos of the GH3 + XPlorer bundle online already. People who accidentally end up getting this controller when all that's been advertised for GH3 is the new awesome Les Paul will be upset. Does anyone know if they cost the same as the GH3 + Les Paul bundles? Cause that would be awful.

You know what is good though? My green button on the guitar doesn't work unless I hold the guitar at a certain angle. The Les Paul isn't all it's cracked up to be either.

Wow that sucks... then again it is RedOctane. You would have thought they would have learned when they started off making those things but I guess not.

Is Wal-Mart packaging the game this way, or is it Red Octane? I'm just curious if they'd try and sneak Xplorerds into Rock Band bundles too...

I was about to start a thread about this...but I saw this first. I work overnight stock at Wal mart, and noticed this. I thought it was only Canada getting screwed again, but apparently Red Octane is putting the screws to everyone. Does anyone know of any places other than Wal mart that are doing this?

I went to my store at 11:30 to stand in line only to see them pull one explorer bundle out after another. When I got to the head of the line I asked if they had any wireless bundles and Mississippi Woman at the register told me no and then started to ring me up. It took a few moments before she heard me saying that no I would not like one. My friend couldn't resist the temptation. Luckily I have a preorder at Gamestop to pick up after work... sadly I live 40 miles away from said gamestop.

If they were cheaper, I'd be tempted. After hearing the LP won't work on RB I'm not about to buy one. So it's either get an X-plorer or buy GH3 for PS2.

The Guitar Hero 3 Les Paul also works with everything and also can't be used to activate the Rock Band special effects. We tried it on Rock Band and played through roughly 10 songs without any hitches. Of note here is that the Guitar Hero 3 PS3 controller can't be used with Guitar Hero 2, even with the disc put into a PS3 that should make it backwards compatible.

I assume that when they say special effects they mean things like solo buttons and 5-way switch.

Otherwise, GH3 rocks! Raining Blood has been kicking my ass for the last half hour.

It's actually a very good controller! To me its even better than the SG! Then again, mine is n't really "defective". The only thing wrong with it is I auto play the Green-Red-Yellow chord without having to strum, and it plays twice and super fast if I do strum. Everything else is just fine.

I called Wal-Mart last night to see if they would begin selling it at 12:01 and they said yes, so I asked if they had the Wii version. A pause like he never heard of a Wii or maybe didn't know a Wii version was coming based on his reply of "we don't have any Guitar Hero 3's for Wii" which sounded like a sort of question back at me haha.

So I asked which ones, and he said PS2 and Xbox360 games only and controllers for PS2 and Xbox360. I asked if they were the wireless Les Pauls and another pause and reply of "these are the white ones like Guitar Hero 2 for Xbox360".

I sorta shook my head and said thanks and hung up, then called Best Buy who had Wii versions, PS2's, Xbox360's, but this guy didn't know either if the Xbox360's were the Les Pauls or Explorers...*sigh*

I just bought the PS2 version since I love my PS2 guitars. I'll spend the money on Rock Band for peripherals and DLC. After reading this, the GH forums, and other sites across the net where the Explorer ended up in too many pre-orders and bundles and such, I pray MTV/EA let Harmonix do their job properly instead of interfering lol.

Oh, wow, now that sucks. I had planned to grab a bundle of each so I'd have two guitar controllers for 360, and I'm not about to pay another $60 for another one. My place is already overflowing with 2 PS2 controllers, a 360 LP (actually KINDA works, save for waaaay too sensitive SP), and plans for the Strat, drums, and mic (with stand). Ah, well, I guess that's what happens when the people who own the rights to the game are the hardware manufacturers.

I decidedly went with the PS2 version. Waited till 12:00. Got to the store, Wal-mart no less, and the guy started rolling them out. Unfortunately he only rolled out 360, Wii, and PS2. No PS3? What kinda crap is this. So I could have waited and got the PS3 version later that day but I saved 40.00 bucks this way. At least it will keep me busy till RB comes out and all my GH games are on PS2. I'm consistent!

Yes, I was pissed about the SG being in there instead of the Kramer! BS!

On a positive note, the games fairly enjoyable, but the covers are horrendous. Yikes! :eek:
