So i finaly got a guitar yesterday and right out of the box it was hard to activate overdrive, you would have to hold it up and shake it and even then sometimes it wouldent work, now it seems i have to litteraly flip it 90 degrees for it only to work sometimes, pressing select works but i often mess up my note streak from doing that, what should i do?

I have the same problem. I am EXTREMELY Disappointed, since this was also a brand new guitar (official Rock Band guitar, sold seperately, purchased at Gamestop).

Seriously, I've been reading reports all over the internet, about the strum issues (finally fixed apparently), and the tilt issues (problem since early models, never fixed).

A lot of users report that RMA's are worthless, they get a guitar that does the same thing. The problem seems to be with the cheap tilt sensors they are using. Too bad Harmonix can't work with Red Octane - I like a lot of design decisions with the Rock Band Guitar, but I SERIOUSLY prefer the tilt sensing of the Guitar Hero guitar.

I would like to know, at this point, is it REALLY worthwhile to RMA my guitar, just to get another one that doesn't activate overdrive properly when I want it to? or decides to just go off randomly on it's own?

I refuse to open up my guitar and move/tape stuff down also. These things should have been inspected better, and made better. I should not have to do user mods on a 60 dollar piece of equipment just to get it to work right.

HARMONIX - WHAT ARE YOU DOING ABOUT THIS? You are already on the 4th generation of the guitar it seems...

It's not really making me want to invest in Rock Band 2... In fact, because Overdrive can be very important with online play and competitive play, I may give up on Rock Band altogether, and go with Guitar Hero 4 (World Tour), since I feel more secure knowing that Red Octane can actually make solid instruments that work properly.

Please Harmonix - tell me that you aren't ignoring this tilt sensor issue, and are doing something about it? So that once something REALLY is done, I Can return this dang thing for a proper working model? (I'm guessing I have the Version 4 Strat, it's black and white body and was brand new just a week ago from local EB Games/Gamestop).

BTW - I'd like to say that I only support HARMONIX, I cannot stand Viacom/MTV as a company, nor do I like the way Activision is pimping out the Guitar Hero name, but I will not keep investing a ton of money into these rhythm games every year for faulty or new instruments. I would assume this is going to be the case for a lot of people - especially with drums, eventually people are going to get sick of having to upgrade huge (and pricey) accessories that only work with one game (or series, since GH and RB instruments are not compatible on the PS3, nor will they be on any other next gen console apparently at any point).

But as stated, I prefer Harmonix as a developer for these games, because since Amplitude/Frequency, they have shown that they GET rhythm games. They know how to make note charts better than any other developer of a music game that I have seen so far. Most either just throw mad, fast "notes" at you as fast as they can, with little rhyme or reason. Kudos to Harmonix for this - BUT - if the equipment is going to continue to be sub-par, it's not going to be enough to keep me a fan. Please fix this.

Nothing? No information?

I refuse to call tech support and have to talk to someone who really doesn't know anything other than the cue cards they have in front of them, reading me canned responses and telling me to send the guitar in for a replacement that will be just as faulty with the tilt recognition.

Are you, or are you not working on a fix for this, or are you just forgetting it and assuming that people will drop the money for a RB2 guitar instead?

Not me, not after how frustratingly awful this guitar is performing in regards to what is a VERY important multiplayer component especially.

Edit: I find it really disturbing too, that through all the threads I've read here, there has been no official response that I am aware of, from Harmonix or EA, acknowledging the faulty tilt sensing. But yet I can find HUNDREDS of threads with more people than I can count in each, talking about the same problem, regardless of console platform.

I'm now disappointed in my PS3 Rock BAnd purchase. I am going to try to flat-out exchange the guitar at the game store today, because I do NOT feel that having to wait and not be able to play my game for weeks or months is not an acceptable solution, especially when the game has been out for a year, and has gone through numerous hardware revisions already with still this issue not fixed.

If I see this not fixed, and instead more talk about how Harmonix is making "Better" instruments for RB2, you all can kiss another customer goodbye. I'll not be giving you any more money if you cannot properly make good on my ORIGINAL purchases by telling me that you ACKNOWLEDGE this tilt issue, and can assure me that it IS/HAS been addressed. If you cannot tell me that, I will be taking any future money to the Guitar Hero franchise, and pray that they can at least make some half decent note charts. Honestly - the good note charts you all do make the game more fun, but at the same time, a lot of the enjoyment comes out of the instruments, and faulty instruments kills any goodwill I have towards Harmonix and their note-chart abilities.

OK, NOW THIS IS REDICULOUS.

I just returned the previously mentioned guitar to Gamestop for exchange. Thankfully they were very nice about it (and even stated that they have had numerous returns/complaints about Rock Band instruments).

Gave me a new guitar, and now THIS one won't even power on. The USB dongle blinks red, the guitar does absolutely diddly. I even swapped out the provided batteries, and put in my own brand new duracell, and still nothing.

Seriously Harmonix, come on... WHAT GIVES?

I just wasted 8 friggin dollars on gas to do this damn exchange, for what? ANOTHER BUSTED GUITAR. Now what, am I supposed to go drive another 60 miles round trip at 4 bucks a gallon of gas, to get another piece of crap guitar?

At this point, I want a full darn refund of the game, the drums, the guitar, and the damn DLC I paid for thinking that Harmonix hadn't completely sold their souls to the devil.

Gamespot won't do this for me - how about it Harmonix? Want to refund me the entire darn cost of the game if I ship my crap back to you, game included?

EDIT: In case anyone is interested, third time seems to be the charm for now. Harmonix should give EB Games/Gamespot in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, some kind of incentive or award for their customer service regarding these. I took the last guitar they had for PS3 today (second one today - two dang trips out for this).

I still have to say - I'm extremely wary now of anything Rock Band. My wife and I were so excited at first, especially because of the DLC (She is a huge fan of Stone Temple Pilots and Rush, and was really into the DLC, even tho she doesn't play the game, she loves that she can pick songs for me to download and play that she likes to listen to).

However, even SHE said she'd rather not see me *WASTE* any more money on sub-par equipment, and says she agrees that paying for the new RB2 instruments wouldn't be a smart move at all.

Then again, we both think the song creation tools of GH: World Tour eclipse anything Rock Band is offering, and she is well aware at how long my GH1 guitar held up (through 4 editions of GH, if you include "Rocks the 80's", and I even used it to play PS2 Rock Band).

Darn shame it has to be like this, but I can't trust Harmonix/EA again (Doesn't surprise me - MTV is crap, Viacom is crap, and anything they touch should then be assumed to be crap as well). Not with that level of cost investment.

Gonna take a lot for me to stay loyal to Harmonix this time out, since they don't have Red Octane building their instruments anymore.
