I had an amazing idea, what if they released an expansion with a keyboard peripheral, and a 30 or so song set list with great keyboard/piano freindly rock tunes (ie Bohemian Rhapsody, November Rain). The keyboard peripheral could be plugged in instead of bass, to avoid cluttering up the screen. I'm sure with the right songs it would be more fun anyways. What do you think? I think this could seriously be an excellent idea for Harmonix to seriously consider! Just imagine doing slides down the keys and banging out chords and appregios.

I expect a lot of Deep Purple songs if we do get an expansion pack like that.
Doesn't Highway Star have an organ part?

I would love Keyboard too, but I don't think it will happen anytime soon.
But if they are doing it sometime in the future, they should add an option for LAN play, where you can play with 6 people! A singer, two guitar players, one bass player, one drummer and one keyboarder. The first four on one TV, the other 2 on a second TV.

I'm sorry... I'm a piano player and an avid GH player... They had better not make a KEYBOARD HERO. That would be awful. 88 keys cannot make a reasonable translation to a video game without being like "Simon" (the board game) or a Casio play-along.

They made 22 frets and six strings trranslate alright into 5 coloured buttons I play piano as well and I could see it working with enough thought.........

Yeah, I just feel that piano is too close to "buttons" already. It would basically be like playing a 5 button keyboard. That is lame.

Did you honestly just kick bass to the side for keyboard? Say it ain't so.

I say make it 12 keys (+blacks) and get both hands involved

Just for an expansion annd dl content where the piano is the dominant instrument you could still choose bass if you really wanted but trust me Bohemiam Rhapsodys piano is much more fun then the bass. Same goes for November Rain, and lots of great beatles tunes.

Again kicking out bass? Failure.
Keep your keyboard out of my game. IF you need a synth fix I'll take keytar but your idea of "keyboard > bass" just isn't cool.
My band doesn't need keyboard and RB can do the same. Fùcking with bass? Not cool.
Edit: Wouldn't twelve keys take two charts on screen?

Here's the thing you have to remember: the game has to playable with a standard controller... 12 buttons max (and that's every button)

why don't ya jus use songs that already have keyboard parts in them? maybe something lik "Tom Sawyer" or somethin.

I agree. I've played the piano since I was a little kid (I'm a big kid now, mid-20's), and I would be really sad to see a keyboard implemented into the game -- though I wonder if people who've played guitar for a long time feel the same way about GH. Anyhow, with guitar and drums, I can see a reason why it works well as a game. Aside from being easier to map out songs for the two, playing both of those instruments seems to be an experience that you can replicate fairly well using a plastic instrument.
With a guitar, you get the feel like you're hanging it around your neck, fingering the frets, plucking the strings...it works. With drums, you get drum sticks, and bang on stuff, just like real drums.
Try as you may, I just don't think its possible to make you feel like playing a keyboard if you're just hitting a couple of buttons. Poking a few buttons with your index fingers isn't really the same thing. And if you add lots of keys, to involve using multiple fingers, you might as well just learn to play the piano.
It'd remind me of something like this:

I don't have the link with me, but the HMX ceo was talking to an interview and basically said something along the lines of:
"I think a real rock band is a guitar a bass drums and a singer... that's all" I'll see if I can find the link.

That's been the general thinking for the last few decades.

No kicking bass!
The only way I could see it working is if they had a second "fretboard" like the vocalists, and the colors of the keys would be in a line which would change. It's all I can think of, but if it meant I could get November Rain, then so be it.

Well if they add a keyboard expansion pack The Doors have got to be added as DLC. Ray Manzarek is the man on keyboard.

At best if they were gonna put in songs where the focus was keyboard, you would basically see it like it was done in the Collector.
It would be neat though, to have the whole song be considered a solo. Haha.
But no, not every song has a piano, so there would be no individual thing.

But no, not every song has a piano.
Exactly, putting a keyboard in would mean that every song would have to have a keyboard part when not every song does, that would take away a lot of song's.
