I agree completely. I'd love to see the DLC be nicely split between classic rock and the newer stuff, though my taste leans toward more of the classic stuff. And of the classic stuff, RUSH, along with BOSTON, would appeal to an awful lot of classic rock fans. Staying on topic here, RUSH would be fantastic because the bass parts are a huge part of their songs, and Peart's drum work is beyond reproach. There is fun for everyone with the RUSH classics, as long as the keyboards can be worked around.

yes, I noticed that the song selection plays fairly well to bass. Many groups and songs are not going to extremely boring on bass it seems.

You've got Rush, super awesome bass with frequent speed change-ups through the songs

You've got Red Hot Chili Peppers, crazy Flea.

Those are the two that stood out to me as 'for sure bass attraction,' but in listening to more songs off the list, I think bass will be good through nearly all the songs.

I'm a huuuuge Rush fan, and I personally think any/all Rush would be great in Rock Band. All the parts present their own challenges and rewards.
I do wish they had put Freewill in the game instead of Tom Sawyer (that amazing solo section, anyone?), but hopefully we'll get full albums (of master tracks!) for download real soon.

As someone who owns Moving Pictures and 2112, I loathe Rush and would prefer they not eat up valuable game content development time over a band that actually rocks. I can't remember a more 'ugh...' videogame moment than when I got the GHII encore and freaking baby-boomer doo-d-doo-d-d-doo-doo gym-workout-classic YYZ bull**** showed up. Ick. I can appreciate that some many people here seem to love 'em, but I can't think of many bands that are more lame/irritating/pretentious/just-do-not-rock that Rush.

However, please use master tracks. I saw a few previews on youtube and thought that the player doing the vocals was horrible, then I saw just someone playing the guitar and realized that those were the actual in game vocals. While the rest of the song sounds at least half-decent, it's just not the same as the original.

Ok i'm being facetious... he's got great skills, and is probably one of the best metal drummers out there (still not as good as the guy from strapping young lad - can't remember his name) but to compare him to the greats... COME ON!! Peart, John Bonham, Ginger Baker, Rick Allen, Buddy Rich. I'm a big metal fan, but you can't compare to the greats.

I completely agree with more content. I'm a hardcore Rush fan - been listening to them for almost 20 years now - I've seen them half a dozen times in concert, and own more Rush stuff than anyone else I know.

I think these are the aspects for a Rush song that need to be kept in mind to make it a great inclusion for Rock Band:

1. It can't be too long. 2112 is amazingly awesome, but it's a whole side of the album, and it has very long periods of vocal drought.

2. It has to be recognizable enough to most folks that listen to album-oriented rock, prog rock, or classic rock. In other words, songs you probably heard/still hear on the radio. I love the hell out of Bastille Day, Cygnus X-1, Cinderella Man, Natural Science, Witch Hunt, Jacob's Ladder, The Pass, Bravado, Manhattan Project, etc. but I know that most folks that are not big Rush fans don't know these songs at all.

3. Touched on in point 1, but the song needs to have interesting stuff for everyone involved - Rush has plenty of great instrumental pieces, but with no talkie bits it makes it less-than-ideal for inclusion.

Now, with that in mind, here's what I'd consider a solid 3-pack that most folks who are at least passingly familiar with the band (and those of us that are die-hard Rush junkies) would probably be very happy with:

The Trees (Hemispheres)
Spirit of Radio (Permanent Waves)
Limelight (Moving Pictures)

There are just so many damn good Rush songs that it's hard to choose just a few. While I absolutely love Freewill, I wanted to choose 3 songs off of different albums, and I think that Spirit of Radio is probably a little more mainstream. In my ideal world they'd give Rush the Grateful Dead treatment and have 15-20 songs available. However, I'd be a very happy guy with just 3 more songs.

Another very interesting idea would be to throw one of their newest songs from Snakes & Arrows on a pack... if that were the case Workin' Them Angels or Far Cry should probably go in there.

(Alas, I wish I could lobby for the inclusion of my favorite song, Red Barchetta, but I don't think it makes the cut since it's not as recognizable as the three listed above.)

I totally agree with Black Flame Zealot.... However, I'd keep Freewill in there but totally Spirit of Radio and Limelight. For a bass part I don't know if it gets better than Red Barchetta and I'd love to see that..

I have to admit... I'm somewhat of a new Rush fan... always liked them but got their R30 DVD a year and a half ago and watched that and decided I was going to start buying Rush albums and would make a point to see them if I ever had the chance. About crapped my pants when they announced they were going on tour this summer- was row 13 in Denver and have to say they're by far my favorite band- kicking myself for not getting into them earlier. The musicianship of all three in one band is just second to none.

To Harmonix...

I will buy any and all Rush DLC the day it is released, the more the merrier.

To the guy who thinks Slipknot has the best drummer ever...
I can go find some sprinter who can stomp a double bass pedal faster than your boy Joey. You obviously like speed and 'ol Buddy Rich played more notes in 10 seconds than Joey did in that whole solo minus the sprint on the kick pedals... If you think he's an engineer and pioneer in the whole drumkit thing... Check out the Motley Crue Video for "Wild Side"- Tommy Lee already did it (way better in fact- spinning upside down and over the crowd) in 1987, but what was that? 4 years before you were born???

When I listen to music now I seperate the guitar, bass, drums and vocals in my head and I think Dreamline would be a blast.

Red Barchetta, Time Stand Still, The Trees, Roll the Bones would be near the top of the list. Limelight is at the top of the list and I'd buy it again to get a master.

I still think they need some newer Rush material in there, at least something from the last decade or so anyway... they have a ton of awesome material.

I think "Driven" would probably be the ultimate Rock Band song out of their newer material... awesome drums, awesome guitar, cool vocal line, killer off-time groove, and as a group it would be a blast to play. By the time you got to the last 30 seconds of the song, you'd probably be jamming so hard you'd break the instruments to pieces.

Others out of their newer stuff that would be cool.... "Show Don't Tell"... "Roll The Bones"... "The Way The Wind Blows" ... "Workin' Them Angels".... "Stick It Out"... "Test For Echo"

2112 would be awesome, but if you just did the opening there's no vocals, and I dunno who could sing Temples of Syrinx besides a chick - Geddy can't even sing that stuff any more.. LOL.

Oh, and once again NO MORE COVERS!!! I want some REAL RUSH stuff... the only people who sound good playing Rush songs are named Alex Lifeson, Geddy Lee and Neil Peart!

All I have to say is Spirit of the Radio would be an EXCELLENT addition to the rock band setlist. An excellent Guitar riff, The bass is complicated, The singing is consistant, and the drums... its Neil Pearts most excellent showcase on what he can do on the drums.

I'm watched the thread from afar but I don't think I ever posted in this thread. I would love to see more Rush in Rock Band, preferably with master tracks for the next Rush release. The Harmonix cover team does fairly with the instruments but they can't not imitate Geddy Lee's voice well.

Anyway if we were to see any album downloads from Rush, 2112 and A Farewell to Kings would be fine for Rock Band. 2112 and A Farewell to Kings have good instrumentals and in my opinions to the sing the words from any of those songs would be awesome. 2112 has a popular progressive rock concept song. A Farewell to Kings have very interesting percussion pieces and Closer to The Heart(one of Rush's more popular tracks and would be worth at least one download to those who don't listen to Rush much).

Edit:I just read what what was said in page 16 and I have retracted this tidbit of my post.

That song is incredible, would be great to see it in RB. Other awesome songs would be Fly By Night, Bastille Day, Jacob's Ladder (though the vocals are a bit sparse), and Digital Man. Far Cry would be cool too.

With a band like Rush, you really can't go wrong, everything they've done is stellar. :D

Why more Rush in RB? Because it's so much more interesting than the 3 chord blues- oriented 4/4 time stuff that most "classic rock" is. Hemispheres Full Album comes first~ with "The Trees" already on RB2. It would be awesome if they split up "Hemispheres" into the different sections, that way we would get to play all of it. I really wanna play that and "La Villa Strangiato"~ and "Circumstances" would be cool as well.

Rush is a love em or hate em band ... i havent met too many in betweeners .... the ones who love em most of the time are ones who actually play in bands .... they can apreciate how freakin hard that music is ... adding more Rush to the RB set makes for a greater challenge for the "backbone" players (bass/drums) leave bands like Megadeth to give the guitar players blisters .... perhaps we could get some Primus (old Primus like tails from the punchbowl and earlier when Herb was still in the band) to give these backbone players a challenge too

I hadnt really heard of Rush until I bought Roll the Bones - so it would be pretty good to see some of those tracks on RB -- although brother in law is heavily into Rush - took me to see them at Sheffield on the Roll the Bones tour and got hooked..

Anyway thought Geddy was going to join a new band after they got kicked off playing Tom Sawyer on Rock band on youtube:p

I actually haven't heard the songs you mentioned aside from Red Sector A, Circumstances, and Distant Early Warning~

I don't know about Red Sector A over Analog Kid~ the Analog Kid guitar riff/solo is just too appealing. One of Lifeson's best by far~

Distant Early Warning would be awesome~ I wouldn't mind that instead of Between the Wheels

Circumstances is good, but Hemispheres is my favorite Rush song~
Though if I had it my way~ we would definitely have all of Hemispheres for DLC~

man... i just did all of Moving Pictures on bass and drums (both med) and had a blast.....and damn....the difference between med and hard for all of RB2 is a lot...for me anyways...

ps Queenfreak39.... that's my fav band and maybe one day we'll get some dlc for them too... ;-)

Look, I love Rush. However, there are 10 Rush songs already available. Contrast the fact there are only 8 other songs in the whole prog genre and it becomes a bit unbalanced.

I think Harmonix should branch out in to other prog bands before releasing more Rush. Even if they're the best band the genre has to offer, a bit of variety won't kill anyone.

During a spare minute at work today, I came up with a list of Rush songs I think Harmonix should package together for a stand alone game, much like the AC/DC Live thing (only this would be waaaaaay better). I chose 1-3 songs from each album I think would be a blast to play. The list does not include any of the previously released DLC's.

Before getting to the list, though, in the process of thinking about what to include, two albums stood out as no-brainers to release in their entirity; A Farewell To Kings and Permanent Waves. I would also argue that Snakes & Arrows should be given the full album treatment as well. Anyway, here's what I came up with in chronological order. The highlighted songs are absolute essential must-haves...
