is Rock Band region free?

sorry if there is a post somewhere about this but i'm on my phone and it wont let me search for anything.
So does anyone know if its region free and if i could import it from america for my uk xbox? Cheers kyle

Hi Kyle, I too have been trying to find out this myself for weeks now with no luck, as no one seems to be able to say for 100% if it will be region free on the 360 (which sucks! ) However, many of the games out are region free like Halo 3, Gears of War GH2 & GH3 (to name a few of the bigger named games) which does look good thinking of Rock Band (I just ordered my copy of GH3 today from the US game only), however, there is a black cloud that ruins this sliver lining in the form of EA. I have done a bit of history with EA games & it seems that only about 25% of games published by EA are region free & only about 20% of the games on the 360, EA games are region free (which kinds of sucks if you ask me). All we can do now is hope & pray that EA see the amount of gamers outside the US wanting to play this game & in a bid for more money make it region free to sell more units. PLZ HMX, EA & ALL THE GAMING GODS MAKE ROCK BAND REGION FREE FOR ALL NON US GAMERS TO PLAY & LIVE OUT OUR ROCK DREAMS :) :) :) :)

oh well. I can only hope it is. Well you've made me happy by tellin me GH3 is region free. It means till i have to funds to buy it i can lend a backup disk of my mate now :) woo!

I know all PS3 games are region free. As for the 360 version I think the common conclusion is that it will not be region free. There is a chance for it to be, as some 360 games are, but I have a feeling it will not be.

Before GH3 came out, I went to their website and emailed them with this very question. They wrote back telling me that, unfortunately, Guitar Hero 3 will be region locked. About a week later, the game came out and they were proven to have lied.

Even if the people say it won't be region free (as likely as that may be) I wouldn't believe it until it is tested. Perhaps for the same reasons as why region locking exists in the first place, some companies might require their staff to say that it is locked whether or not that is true.

So, we can still hope, as slim as that hope may be.

It has probably already been said but the PS3 version will be region free since every Ps3 game is region free, and nobody know about the 360 version.

I even asked Sean about this and he answered that he doesn't know himself.

So, you probably just have to wait until the release. Which sucks, since you probably have to preorder to get the game this year. (If EA is telling the truth)

Thats why I have chosen the Ps3 version, although I have a 360 too.

Yeah same here Cold Player imo my 360 is a Scaled down version of god at the moment but ive chose Rock Band on PS3 for the simple fact its Region Free and im getting it in less than a month from a Local Import Shop in Kent.

Not to mention you'll probably get stung by customs. Hasn't stopped me ordering it, I'd sell a kidney if I had to.

I got stung with extra customs charges with GH III yesterday when it arrived. It was my dry run for Rock Band to see if there was a chance that my sneak through. Not a hope, the GHIII box was huge when the sender packed it with all the packaging stuff. I'm expecting a forklift to pull up outside my house when Rock Band arrives.

I'm getting it for the PS3 btw, GHIII worked fine, haven't a clue about the Xbox version.

I paid for my Rock Band this week also which only cost £135 inc postage so even if I get hit by a customs fee I should still come out ahead compared to a UK street price. If it don't work I'll just sell my 360 & any Pal games I have & buy a US console (as about 90% of my games are region free they will all work & I'll just have to rebuy COD4):D

the way I look at it I don't care if I go over what it's going to cost when it comes out here because it'll only be by about 20 or so quid if it does, and if you break that down into number of days between getting it from the States and when it's released her, I'd gladly pay 20 cent a day to have Rock Band a few months early :P

Pfft. I have a PS3, 360, and a Wii. The key is to live in an area with low cost of living, I make only $32,000/year, but after my fixed expenses (rent, electricity, etc), I still have an easy $11,000/year to spend on whatever I wants.

Well.. the DLC looks great, but im afraid when i import (still the question remains IF this is region free or not) the risk is too great for me to find out wether that DLC is going to be released on a european xbox live network or not... i think not, so that means missing out and having to wait.

Plus, it is quite expensive to import this rock band package (thanks for the links btw, coldplayer) so i'll probably pass and actually wait for the game to be released in europe...

dammit.. this sucks.. STILL no news about a euro release date from EA or harmonix... it's the 80's and the 90's all over again.. where europe was a continent that could just sod off and be thankfull to get a game from japan or the states half a year later :D

Well, I have thought about DLC a lot.

What I find interesting, Activision released new songs for GH3 today and they are on the European Marketplace, although I heard they are not on the european PS3 Store, which sounds strange, but I haven't looked yet. Anyway, the game is not out in Europe, but will be on Nov. 23th.

Rockband even has no releasedate in Europe, so I don't think we'll get the DLC. :(

It's a decision you have to make for yourself. If you really really really need the game now, you have to import it. If you can wait until... who knows... maybe March, maybe even later, you should wait.

I think that DLC may be out on the UK market place at the same time as the US as 2 GH3 packs came out yesterday on both market places & even though my GH3 is US I downloaded the packs off the Uk mp & they work fine so I hope HMX take the same route & let DLC be on both mp even if the full game is not out here yet.

For some reason my credit card, which hadn't worked on the US PS Store up until now, worked yesterday and I was able to download the foo fighters pack for GH III. I did retype everything, making sure that everything matched the address on my credit card statement as much as possible.

I would never say a 360 was a waste of money in fact I wouldn't waste my money on a PS3 :eek: (before all u PS3 lovers start thinking I hate Sony, I don't !)

It's just the PS3 has no games on it that I can't get on the 360 anyway & plus all the multi platform games look better on the 360, just look at every pic of a 360vPS3. I've even played the same game on both consoles & can see that not as much time or effort has been put into the PS3 versions it looks more like a quick port job:( . Im not saying the PS3 is a load of rubbish but until developers start putting more effort into the PS3 versions of games or till Sony get some good exclusives I don't see any good reason to pay £300 on the system. I know this was a little of topic.....

Both consoles offer different pros & cons but if they did the same things everyone would just buy the cheaper & the quality of games & hardware would fall, just remember in the game industry rivalry is a good thing!:D

Hi all, my first post!

I have the PS3 version on pre order from gamestop/EB Games but I must admit I am worried about the wireless guitar. I imported GH3 for PS3 from the same place and the guitar is useless, lots of missed strums, double strum problems. I fear that I may have the same problem with Rock Band. Now if this was on XB360 it would not be a problem as I could just use my explorer but the GH 1 and 2 controllers for PS2 don't work with any PS3 games including GH3 so I am guessing the same problem would apply to RB.

If they would confirm a region free XBOX 360 release I would change my order in a flash. As it is I will get the PS3 one and cross fingers.

When you say you put in your own address as close as possible do you mean your UK address? I thought the trick was to put in a real US address and your UK card number?

I put in my real address up until the zip code, because apparently when they cross check sometimes they only check the first couple of lines for the address. So I had my regular address, then threw in a New York zip code and it worked, it hadn't worked up until that point though, so I don't know what changed, could've been something as simple as an apostrophe or something.

@Blade: Yeah, the 360 has the better games and even the better looking games. But the PS3 will also get some nice games soon, like MGS4, the Team Ico game (which will definitely be a Must Have) and the exclusive title by the Fahrenheit (Indigo Phrophecy) makers. Oh, and not to forget, Final Fantasy XIII!

But at the moment, you're right, a PS3 is not needed. But I still have both, and only because I can be sure that the PS3 version will be region free I will buy the PS3 Version of Rockband. Also, Wireless guitars seem to be cool, I'm just scared like a lot of you, that there will be problems with the wireless connection or lag or whatever.

From what I've gathered reading forums etc. since the PS3 was released, it seems that it's easier to get a Mastercard working with it than a Visa card, but my visa worked. I can give you the number and expiry date if you want to try it out :P

I know your pain, I haven't managed to enter my visa Credit card on the PSN since February, "Invalid credit card info" is all I get....damn, the only workaround I know for now is to import a PSN card from hong kong, and use it on the hong kong store ... (that until sony *SOMEDAY* releases the PSN cards on the US) , and maybe the hong kong psn store never get the DLC from RB or GH3 :(:(

I put new york as the city, but not sure if that'll work. I think it only works as far as if the system checks the first line or two of the address only you're grand, if not, then your up the creek sans paddle.
