yooo i did a search for something on this but i couldn't find anything... it was hinted at in the faq saying that you're represented by 2 characters if you want to play an instrument and sing at the same time but would the noise from hitting the drums interfere at all with the mic?? i'm curious because i know with some electronic drum kits you can set off other pads with reverb from whatever you're hitting... crazy question i know maybe i'm just neurotic:D

I wouldn't imagine the mikes are THAT sensitive. I remember in Karaoke Revolution you had to be loud enough to be picked up; if you mumbled it wouldn't register.
A good test for this -- and guitar+mike -- would be to go to Best Buy with a friend and have them act as a human mike stand while you give it a go. I'm hoping to do that later this week, so I have a means to access BWT (pre-online-patch).

I'd recommend if you're going to do this, to use a headset rather than a regular mic on a stand. You don't want the drums closer to the mic than your face. Actually in general, it's probably easier to do the instrumentalist/vocalist thing with a headset.

First of all...IS there a headset with a mic attached?
If they are smart enough, most people could device a way to tape the mic to their heads or something.

as far as i know, the microphone is an extension of the controller and if that is the case, it is logical to believe that the headset that comes with a 360 could be used to sing into.
then again it probably wouldnt pick up on the things the RB mic is intended to catch

Alright, this is going from my shoddy memory, but.
From interviews I've read with HMX, I'm KINDA sure the default Live Headset won't work because it's too low fidelity. However, USB headsets -- like the kind included in Karaoke Revolution -- WILL work with the game.
So, if you wanna do your Micky Dolenz or Phil Collins impersonation, you can strap on an ordinary USB headset you grab for 10 bucks at Circuit City, plug it in to the USB hub / PS3 USB ports, and hop to it.

Don't give your drummer a mic, it'll just end in tears :P

If you mean the tap the mic sections when there are no vocals.
As far as I understand it there is nothing overly special about the microphone above the higher fidelity there are no sensors or anything inside it to pick up the taps.
I believe it's just the sudden sound of it hitting your hand that registers the tap on the mic.
So in theory that would mean that any sudden loud sound would register the tap so you could blow on it quickly or something along those lines to get through the tapping sections.

I saw Sean play Wave of Mutilation and sing at the same time at the tour a bit ago...that was entertaining....and quite impressive...

It is low fidelity, but we managed to get it to work. We're hoping people will try singing on a whim on the headset, then get something better once they realize they like singing. I'd suggest going with the handheld microphone whenever possible, though. The game just feels more responsive when used with a better mic.

Is there any reason that there is no mic stand included? just too clunky of an item to toss into the box or what? it seems that a mic stand would be a must! now i have to go buy one so i can do bass/singing for our band

Yeah, I wish a mic stand was included....oh well, gives me something to do before RB comes out. Then I can practice lol
So, does anyone know of a GOOD USB headset to use?

Seems like an accessory to me. I'd rather they not include it and save $20 than include it and cost $190.

Ditto. I play on getting a drum throne and a mic stand for Christmas (I wanted to get a stand the mic will fit in).

If you mean the tamborine/cowbell thing then, not to worry, you don't need to even do those.
I use them as a chance to get proper amounts of air if I'm feeling breathless.

Tried it once (Trying to finish all the sets from RB1) it was hard when I sing and drum my voice goes up and down and it picks up the sound from the drums. Failed out pretty quick.

Druming and singing?!
Well... I suppose if one can play guitar... and sing, or play bass and sing... no it will never work! No son of mine is going to play the drums and sing!
Also the mic shouldn't pick it up if you don't got the mic right next to the drum pads.

Definitely need a boom mic stand for this.
Talk about limb independence though. Ugh, it sounds awkward to try just thinking about it.

I do it with my real band. It's not that hard. You just need to stay in the rhythm and not concentrate on it too much.
We need some ****in' Genesis and Phil Collins DLC first.

Wanna sing and drum and not miss the vocal percussion? It's pretty simple to set up with Doc's cowbell mod and/or e-tambourine with a vox box..
Works for me anyway..
Doc's Vox box:
http://docsrockbandmods.netforums.us/docs-vox-box-5-port-vox-adaptor-vt507.html
e-tambourine mod:
http://docsrockbandmods.netforums.us/e-tambourine-mod-no-more-mic-whacking-vt15.html
Browse through the drumming mods threads there.. you'll find whatever you need if you wanna mic a cowbell.

I use a boom mic so I can get it close to my mouth. I can only really do songs where I know the vocal part, because I can't read the words and play.
Hits from the pads arn't registered by the mic.
I hate doing the tambourine parts. I try to make a "pop" noise, but I find it way harder to do that than sing and play at the same time.

Like people said, use a boom mic. I rigged one from two normal mic stands and a shoe string.
For vocal percussion parts, just blow into the mic in short bursts.

Yep, a boom stand definitely works best for drums, both in Rock Band and real:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BeE33y0QCFc
And you can either skip the percussion parts, or just make any noise into the mic to get them. Blowing into the mic works, clicking, popping, yelling, any of that will register.
Epic necropost though.

I just speak "cha...cha...cha" into the mic. Easier than banging it with your head, albeit less Metal.

It's actually quite fun and challenging as hell. But yeah a boom and stand helps quite a bit....

My friend and I have been playing/singing since the first day we played the game. We haven't had any problems with the mic picking up pad strikes on the drum kit. Not that I notice anyway.
I am no expert at RB, when we play drums or guitar/bass and sing, the difficulty isn't set on Expert, or even hard except maybe the bass, but it is fun to do both.

Its two seperate characters, as there is no way to tell if someone is multitasking. Get a mike stand or someone to hold it for you, thats what I do on guitar(or bass if I feel like playing some Rush)

Also, in GH5 I managed to do Drums, Guitar, and Vocals on Expert simeltaneously on "Beat It". I would play a little fill, set down my sticks, turn my guitar around from my back, play a riff, swing it back around and repeat, singing the whole way. Think like Rock Band Unplugged's system and apply it to actual instruments

I drum and sing quite often and it is a blast! I use a Boom Mic stand and it works great. I sit the stand in front of the drums and have the mic come up and over. Does not get in te way at all. And for the tapping sections, a quick blow in the mic takes care of that. Enjoy!

Those tapping sections don't actually count against you if you don't play them on the mic, you just miss some extra points.
