No bonus tracks yet?

They seem to be focusing on the Downloadable content first,
I know no list will be 100% to everyone's satisfaction, but this list is good, broad in scope, and fun.
(I coulda done w/o REM tho)

58 total songs including bonus tracks is disappointingly low. Oh well.

Low ? what thats a lot considering they are all great songs , plus remember the Downloadable albums wich will be released over time.

Indeed. The retail setlist is only 58, but the potential is there for a whole lot more.

My thinking is the lack of bonus tracks is an incentive to buy DLC. Especially because they're pushing indie content.

If that's the case, I hope the disc bonus songs are mostly Harmonix bands and stuff from TV/Homestar Runner.

Yeah! Not. Not everyone loves Indie Rock. Its ok, but thats not all I want to see.

I dont mind, because in GH2 I'd play the guitar track, bass track in co-op and then move on.
In Rock Band, between playing 4 instruments and rotating what I play to fit with what my FRIENDS feel like playing, I'll be experiencing all 52 tracks in different ways for quite some time...

It doesn't matter what you want (see Fallout Boy). The point is Alex has blantantly stated they're pushing indie.

I doubt they're going to be pushing indie exclusively. My guess is that indie bands are going to get DLC alongside established artists.

I never said exclusively. I was giving my theory to the suspiciously small bonus setlist.
Obviously they're alongside big names (The Who, Nirvana, Grateful Dead, and Metallica are no lightweights) but Alex wants HMX to differentiate themselves by really supporting the indie scene.

Uhm, wasn't it confirmed that the Who and Grateful dead were amongst the first DLC bands? I don't know if that classifies as indie....
MxMarx is right, 4 ways to play..... 52 X 4 = 208 HA!!

Yes they are the first. I never said they're indie.

most people would probably like to play somewhat famous songs that they've actually heard of...I really hope it's not dominated by indie bands.

I hope for a good balance as I love both equally (indie maybe a tinsy, winsy, bit more).

I said it before but it needs to be said again. Why did this game suddenly become crap, after being praised so much, because they ADDED stuff to it. Stuff that you can play at a bare minimum aside from what is needed to pass it, 5 star it if you really care about it, and then move on. I'm sure most of your friends wont want to play this crap if you dont, so I see no reason why it will be forced on you. And, who cares if they push indie, if the indie is good (which some surprisingly is), then it'll be worth downloading. If not, no one is FORCING you to download it.
Just looking at how many times I went back and played through Guitar Hero 2 and 1 after clearing it on expert, solo career or co-op, this game will have amazing replayability, even without the tantalizing DLC looming over our heads. It just irks me to see so many people complaining over what they used to love, and suddenly because one song is a cover, and Fall Out Boy is in there, the entire thing turns to crap. Get over it and move on to talking about how impatient you are for the game to be released.

Well, that's because you're quite literally insane and lacking of anything resembling taste.
Toodles.

BURN! 100 pts.
Music's always a matter of taste, but speaking in broader terms, I'm hoping for a LOT of great indie and cult hit stuff in the bonus songs. We've already got our major bands -- the ones that would sign on, anyway, it's not like they didn't WANT Led Zep in there! -- and the unlockables are a great space for HMX to "sneak in" some good stuff. And one word: Jordan.
If it wasn't for HMX's approach to indies I'd have missed out on the awesomeness of Bang Camaro. Freezepop wouldn't have their sneaky in-road to online gamer obscure fandom. And if they hadn't taken chances and included Trogdor and Thunderhorse, two online joke songs that actually play really good, I'd be all the sadder for it.
In contrast, look at Gh3's unlockables. Having an emphasis on international tracks is nice, I like that, but the rest... nothing's clicking. There's no risk taking inclusions, no jokes, no cult hits. It feels kind of flat.
I'm looking forward to seeing what craziness HMX can sneak in the back door via unlockables. There may be some gems lurking in there. I don't need more big name bands on the disk if it pushes out the more random-yet-beloved indie stuff.
And for the big name bands... DLC ahoy!

I really hope a Metalocalypse song is in the bonus section. Or better yet, the entire dethalbum for DLC
