View Full Version : Is it Hype?

I've been sitting think for awhile, what if all this is just hype and it doesn't turn out as good as we expected (not bad just not as good as we thought). Like GH3 ,*gasp* I spoke it's name, was for me. I thought it was going to be a decent time filler, but playing on hard the hammer ons they placed seemed pointless and there were none when you needed them. The game also wasn't just what was expected it wasn't good but wasn't what I thought it would be.

You think the same with rock band? Me I don't live in town and most of my friends are either not able to come over or they're just bad at stuff like GH1 and 2. So anyways I'll be playing solo most of the time but I think it will be too much GH on solo I wanted something new. Something i could do whenever I want alone or with friends, without have to smash frets and belt out to the heavens at the same time.

Is this crazy.
Maybe delusion set up by the evil "other". I just got done playing it.

I think Rock Band will be the ultimate party game while GHIII will be the better solo game. Of course my opinion would change if Band World Tour was added for 1 player.

After playing the demo:
It's not hype. The game really will rock your socks off.

I dunno, bro, do what you want. As I've always said since this game came out: If you have no friends, get GH III. If you have friends, get Rock Band. If you have friends online... get either or both. :)

Another thing: I haven't played the demo yet, but I've heard it's pretty freakin' awesome. That doesn't sound like just hype to me. It sounds like personal experiences from honest, unbiased people.

I'm not asking your opinions on which is better or which i should get (I now offically hate Nevresoft for killing GH for me). But I'm asking is will RB be as awesome as it should. Now that the wave of delusion passed over me from GH3 and re-reading and re-watching some old vids and such, I know it will be awesome.

Yep, it's happened to all of us one time or another. It just hits you one day, and you think, "maybe Rock Band won't be all that good..." Then a while later, after watching some vids again and listening to the songs and seeing people play the instruments (what you did) that feeling magically goes away... :D

I'm a firm believer in lowering expectations to realistic levels -- then if they ARE surpassed you're happily surprised.

Rock Band is not going to cure cancer, nor will it be absolute liquid fun across the board. Odds are it'll have quirks and problems you won't like. (Especially if you don't have 3 friends stuffed in a closet, available on demand. At least, until the patch.)

But... it'll be fun. Not like heroin straight into the spinal cord fun but plenty of fun. Just try to keep your cool in the days leading up to it to avoid letting yourself down from unrealistic expectations.

Many of us have played the demo, and no one's come away with poor impressions, unlike when many of us finally got our hands on the GH3 demo. Don't worry, this game is worth the price!

It's almost like this was originally written in japanese then translated poorly to english. For some reason its so hard to understand

As far as solo stuff is concerned, I think it definitely has to do with the song. Every song is not super intensive with every instrument. That being said, there are definitely guitar-, drum-, and even bass-heavy songs that would be a blast to play solo (can't speak for singing...but I think all the songs have some great singing). Remember, I'm already getting all of this from the 15 songs in the demo (of which I've played maybe 7-8 so far).

...Like GH3 ... playing on hard the hammer ons they placed seemed pointless and there were none when you needed them...

After playing Rock Band, I have to say that (as we all should know), Harmonix knows their stuff-

Bad Part: We couldn't really differentiate the HOPOs from the normal notes. I can kind of see them now, but it's tough.

The part so GOOD is completely makes up for the bad part and then some: We could get most of the HOPOs by the "feel" of the song. They were there when they "should" have been there...it just kind of made sense. It was an amazing feeling.

Also, I've seen people saying the HOPOs are much more strict. I'd probably disagree with that; I'd say they are between GH1 and GH2 levels...leaning heavily towards GH2.
