I remember when GH1 came out, suddenly playing guitar was the coolest damn thing in the world. And when RB came out I was like "yea, 3 more friends get to be my b*ches while I rock out!"
Well, while the guitar game play is still fun as hell, is it just me or is HMX not really doing much with their guitar side of things? Vocals are getting some cool software update, and a peripheral mic which seems to have buttons right on it (something I've been asking for since RB came out). Drums are getting a whole drum trainer in the game that helps you learn the actual instrument, not to mention the insanely cool Ion Drum set that doubles as actual electric drums. Even Bass is getting an absolutely fabulous and geekgasm worthy controller, and the split in the strum bar for double finger picking is just such a cool idea.
However, Guitar has stayed, pretty much, the exact same since GH1. I know, I know... if it ain't broke, don't fix it? But it just feels to me that HMX MAY be taking the guitar for granted? You know, it's been in like 5 games now, everyone knows it, loves it, no need to do anything with it... but I don't know, I wish there was some cool crazy new feature with Guitar. Cause when people talk about Rock Band, they always bring up how cool the drums are, or how cool it is that you can sing along now with RB... but let's not forget where it all started with rhythm games: The Guitar
Us Guitarists just want some attention :(

Don't forget about the absolutely "fabulous and geekgasm worthy" guitar controller to match that new bass controller...
Those controllers made form real guitars and basses are absolutely MUST haves.

I'm pretty sure rhythm games started with dancing actually. Dance Dance Revolution, PaRappa the Rapper.
As for the guitar, they added the solo buttons. That's kind of cool. Personally I'm not comfortable using them, but with the new guitar's fret buttons being less clicky, I might learn to start using them.

Sadly I think Activision won the guitar showdown this round, with the touchpad. That's just neat, and here HMX isn't really doing anything with the guitar other than fixing the hardware.
Solo frets were nice innovation, but no real new functionality was added.

The touchpads on the Guitar Hero guitar isn't that much different from the solo buttons on the RB one. The idea is kind of cool, but they might be hard to use.

I think it's been pretty much perfected over the past few years...it ain't broke so they aren't fixing it. :) What would you suggest they do to make it better? The only thing I think is really missing is the option to play rhythm guitar.

Remember those band members you're playing with? Yeah, that's why.

Raise the strum bar and put a second one under it to simulate two strings instead of one, possibly adding another row of frets with it (top row circles?). That would be awesome and stupid all at the same time, but I'd buy it.

First of all, the "upgrade" you mention for vocalists is a third-party microphone, sold separately from the game, that just has the X-Box controller buttons on it. Fine idea, yes, but hardly reinventing the wheel. Second, that same third-party manufacturer is selling a bass controller with a thumb rest and a split-strummer, which, purportedly you could also use to play the fast strummy parts on guitar as well as bass, as well as a guitar mod with a "programmable strum" (whatever that is) and bridge plate used for whammy (whatever that means). But they both sound like new designs over the standard controllers.
The drummers are receiving the most upgrades because, hell, they need it.
