View Full Version : Difficulty Expecations While Playing Online...

I've been seeing a common theme on the GameFAQs GH3 board. (I was poking around there for tips on beating that ridiculously random boss battle. Stupid Neversoft...)
Namely, "Quit playing Dragonforce on Expert while online! We're sick of it!"
Apparently the online field is awash in people who only want to play the hardest crap in the game at the hardest difficulty setting and everything else be damned. It's kind of funny, like a massive anonymous internet e-peen measurement contest.
Problem is, it's ridiculously casual player unfriendly. I'm not ashamed to admit it -- I can't pull off Expert on anything, and have only begun starting in on Hard. I'm not really into the finger-bleeding artificially difficult metal from hell tracks. I just wanna groove on something I can enjoy doing well in and have fun doing it.
So, when Rock Band comes, how do you think online is going to go..? Will it be full of elitist L2P L33T types or will its more "party inna box" flavor compared to GH3's approach mean there'll be a wider spread of songs and difficulties being rocked out to online?

I figure the head to head stuff will focus towards the harder songs. I mean who wants to do a 1v1 guitar face-off playing something like 'Here it goes again'?

I would have no issue playing that on expert online. Sure I couldn't get past 1% on it in career but I can sure as hell hit notes.

Yeah, I'm not expecting 1v1 face-offs to be anything but the hardest ones in the game. After all, they're competitions and there it's all about who has, well, the biggest e-peen. That's actually reasonable, if not anything I'd play.
I'm wondering more about coop band play. Will people insist on only playing the hardest combos in the game or will there be more of a mix? Would someone who normally yawns at Jordan on Expert "lower" themselves to jamming on medium?
And yes, I can host... but the other half of that equation, people JOINING, depends on who's willing to play at less than amazing skill settings...

Can't each person set their own difficulty? So if the vocalist wants to play on Medium and the Drummer wants Hard, but both guitarists want Expert, it should all work out just fine that way. Everybody gets to play at what they can handle.
The only real downside would seem to be if you get people joining into the set that insist on trying to get the highest possible score and want everyone to play on Expert. In which case you can freely ignore them or boot them or go to a different game (if you're not the host).

At the end of the day it's an online face-off, and it's going to be competitive. Just gonna have to keep up with the jones's like any other game.

In GH3, each person can set the difficulty level in co-op, I'm not sure about in face-off. I played on expert and my friend played on hard. Its fun too! I just don't like the fact there are songs only on co-op. I think maybe you should be able to unlock it in co-op and then be able to play solo. Its good enough to put up with for three weeks until rock band comes out!

A lot of the songs in Rock Band are more well rounded and lean towards being more fun than difficult. While I think you will find that the majority of the songs played are the more difficult ones, it wont be anything like you say it is for GH III.
