View Full Version : BWT or DLC?

I think i would rather give up a little downloadable content to be able to play the Band World Tour online and in the single player mode. So here is my petition to have Harmonix stop working on DLC and start coming out with a patch or second version or whatever it take to be able to play BWT online and in single player mode.

Who is with me?

I'm with you... until there's a patch.

Then we'll need to have another petition to force them to work even faster and harder to catch up on all the DLC we missed while they were responding to this petition!

Agreed, but for now, they need to stop working on songs and just work on the code so we can freaking play some BWT!

I don't think I will play online very often, because it's more fun to play with your friends in one and the same room together. But I want loads of new songs, so my vote is definitely for more DLC!!

I don't think they need to STOP working on DLC. I'm just hoping they'll see this as yet another reminder of how much we would really like to see this happen.

Single player BWT FTW!

Thats a logical explanation. If someone doesnt play online or will always have friends over, that makes sense. But at least let us play the BWT in a solo career!

While a wonderful theory, it's a bit flawed. How exactly do you expect the audio engineers who are mixing the DLC tracks to help program an online component?

It was already hinted at in an interview that they wanted to make sure BWT online was as bug free as possible, and to keep looking for something at a latter date. I have full faith Harmonix is working on a patch to provide this. Have patience.

I think I would prefer DLC, as in GHII, despite almost 100% of the songs being great, they began to get a little stale, and I think it,s great to have the option of buying your favourite tracks online, and as quastor said, the sound would be hard to perfect for online play.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they are working on both.

I know I may be going against the grain but I don't mind there not being a solo BWT. Yes..I do have friends and family and will have no problem playing BWT at almost anytime, but as someone said in another post, the feeling of playing with others in this game (as in a real band) is something you could never get playing alone. Anyone in a band knows what I'm talking about. When everyone is done playing with the volume knobs and you are all in the zone....a feeling that HMX is going after. I know online BWT is coming, but it wont be the same as playing..in the zone..with real live people.

So with both options on the way...I voted DLC.

DLC, I have RL friends for BWT.

This is pretty pointless. The people who would be responsible for implementing online BWT are not the same people that would be licensing and authoring DLC. This is not an either/or situation.

For all the challenges involved in getting a balanced BWT implementation online, I don't think lack of manpower is the problem.

DLC. Remember this game is about MUSIC.

Well, since they said that they were going to release BWT online functionality, I'd rather have more DLC. I know this is just my opinion, but I already have 3 friends who are psyched about this. I can see our Saturday night kitchen table poker games being replaced by Rock Band parties. So I'm not one of the ones who needs online BWT functionality. Although I feel for those who want it.

But anyways more DLC.

Tool plz.

Obviously HMX has different people doing seperate jobs. I know that. But what i am saying is that i would rather give up a little DLC if they can hurry out with BWT.

As others have said, the two are mutually exclusive, but if I had to choose...BWT before DLC. I'm not all that eager to spend more money on a game until I can utilize its features to the fullest. Quick question - I keep seeing people saying that online BWT is definitely coming in a patch...when was this confirmed? Last I saw it was a "maybe a patch or maybe in Rock Band 2". Confirming this would be a cornucopia of awesomosity.

DLC, I have RL friends for BWT.

Same here. I'd rather sing, play instruments and dance with people I know.

Plus online syncing would be a little tough.

As noted, we're talking two completely different camps of people within the company working on these things. They aren't mutually exclusive.

I think a better way to phrase this is...

"If you could only have one of these two things, online/solo BWT or a massive load of DLC, which would you want?"

That's more placing personal emphasis on it, and erases the "Well, they were gonna patch anyway, soooo..." loophole.

In THAT case, my vote's BWT... and if anybody here's sick to death of my posts, they know why.. :) I'd rather be able to enjoy this mode without having to be a one man two instrument band or somehow teach my non-gamer family how to play.

My vote doesn't change. Massive DLC.

Christ, this reminds me of the people that throw a hissy fit when an MMORPG patch mentions a new skin or texture for something instead of a bug fix.

As for me? DLC.

And.. why not both?

while i dont really agree/follow along the lines of the original question...i'd have to say DLC is a must and i dont think anything is worth sacrificing that aspect.
i dont own any of the other rhythm games, but i cant imagine the life of the game to be as long as id like it to be with a set amount of tracks. it's like having an ipod with 45 songs. after a while i wont want to listen to it as often cuz it will be stale. i need to add new flavors to the mix :)

With out a doubt I pick DLC. I would much rather purchase/play songs I like. I just don't have the time needed to spend endless hours playing BWT and neither do any of my friends (well at least the ones with jobs that can afford this game).

DLC, absolutely. BWT is cool and all, but I play Guitar Hero every single weekend for only one reason. Because playing songs on a plastic instrument is fun times. DLC expands that experience indefinitely, BWT doesn't. BWT is just some goofy Sandbox. It's an awesome goofy Sandbox, don't get me wrong, but after 2 weeks I'm going to be completely over it. DLC will entertain me for the next 2 years.

DDR's handling of unlocking songs was beyond basic. You play songs, after a while you unlock more. Eventually you unlock all of them, you're done! Guitar Hero in a very weird way revolutionized that concept. By orginizing those songs into Tiers and associating those tiers with this idea that you were getting more famous was awesome! Huge improvement over previous setups. But that's not what made Guitar Hero great. And while BWT is the next amazing step in how the campaign works, it's still not what will make Rock Band great.

GH2 DLC was a sham, but no one's to blame. That's how the business goes. But GH2 suffered for it. It could have been so much more with real DLC support. Now we've got a golden opportunity for years of DLC support attached to a game even more amazing then GH2. Screw BWT, and screw BWT's mom. I don't care if I'd ever heard of it or not. DLC has the potential to change everything about this genre. BWT is just another footnote.

Now, having said that, and knowing that I will get BOTH BWT and DLC, I'm actually very happy about how everything is turning out. :D

DLC by a long shot. My xbox can't connect to live from my dorm room so I have no need for online band world tour, I can just do that with my friends. However, I can take my Xbox to another building where I can log in and get new DLC.
