View Full Version : Now that we know the Rock Band drums will work with World Tour...

Are you getting World Tour? I'm really considering it now, because all I have to do is get the game ( Possibly guitar... does look kind of cool. )
As long as the set list isn't TERRIBLE, I'll likely get it, even though I've said a million times GH:WT = fail.

Apparently some people say the GH: Aerosmith the timings of the guitar and bass charts are like GH 2, so apparently that might carry over to GH: WT.
However, I disagree. GH: Aerosmith feels more like GH 3 in its charting, so I don't expect too much different for GH: WT. I'll still try it out anyway, just to see, but I don't drum as much, so unless the guitars work, I won't be getting it.
In case anybody is wondering, I have RB for my Xbox 360.

If it works with ALL of the Rock Band instruments for the PS3, I might consider the game only but no way am I adding more plastic guitars and drums to my collection.

It's going to depend on the songlist. Between my DLC, RB1, and the RB2 content, I'm going to have in the neighbourhood of 200 tracks to play with, no need to swap discs. If the game has a ton of exclusives I feel utterly compelled to play, I might consider it although I'm not keen on the inconvenience of swapping one game for the other, especially at a party where you want to minimize the downtime and maximize the playtime. Given they haven't really announced much beyond Aerosmith and Metallica, and that Harmonix is releasing new stuff, and good stuff, on a pretty steady basis, I just think I'd be better off buying MS Points to pay for RB DLC.

I will probably rent it to see how I feel about it. I know I will not be purchasing the extra instruments. Watching the video, the guitars they've made are still too small. I like the size of Rock Band's guitar. Its still small compared to the real thing, but its substantially bigger than Red Octane's guitars. With the added touch slide thingy, there are some aspects I am going to miss, obviously, but that's not enough to upset me. I am not about highest score, leaderboard crap. I am about having fun. So I will more than likely rent it to see if fun can be had. But if its over-charted and sloppy, it will go back to Gamefly just as soon as I maximize the amount of Gamerscore I can get in a short amount of time.

100% depends on the setlist for me. The peripheral thing was never an issue.

Setlist will make or break the game... features dont mean **** to me. I wanna enjoy music I love and that's all

consider the possibility of renting it or borrowing from a friend...but NEVER betray Harmonix by actually buying the game! This is what we've been fighting for.

I understand your a RockBand fanboy and all, but in all honesty, its just a game, no need to act like buying GHWT is a sin or anything.
Back on topic
If the setlist is somewhat good I'll end up getting both.

Well the fact that I wouldn't have to buy the bundle raises the probability of me buying guitar hero from 0% to 0.5%. In other words: I don't like to waste money on something I don't want, even if it would be substantially less money, $60 is still too much money to waste.

I'm getting both games, dunno which instruments I'll go with. I prefer Red Octane since I'm a bassist... and I kinda play the guitar peripheral like I'm playing slap. Y'know, downstrumming with a stiff thumb (moving my wrist instead of the thumb.) That method seems to be too aggressive for the RB1 strat, dunno if the new strat will handle it as well as the Red Octane guitars have.

I might rent it. I don't know though, the whole thing with Boss Battles is really lame. I had hopes of them eliminating that crap, but from what I've heard so far they continue to make it less and less about music, more and more about beating an arcade game.
If I do rent it it won't be right out of the gate, RB2 will consume me for at least three months.

Maybe. Rock Band is a for sure because it's always new music. I have a feeling that GHWT is going to be a let down on the DLC because they'll say "We have thousands of songs being put on GH Tunes every day" but they're all Mario Bros remixes and insanely hard, awful sounding "songs" made by 12 year olds.
Even if the main setlist has some great stuff, it's still limited to those songs and eventually they will get old. Hopefully they'll be more committed to DLC with GHWT than with GH3. Then I might get it if there are some sweet songs like Zeppelin and Muse.

Am I the only one who cares if the GH:WT instruments work in RB2. I already have RB1 intruments, so why buy RB2s?

it said the instruments would work on 360...im assuming that means they wont on ps3 because it specifically said 360

Heh, that would not surprise me in the slightest.
Regardless, I'll be buying both...when both are available in Europe for the PS3

I'm sure it'll be an X360 thing only. After the guitar fiasco, if they make their game work with the RB instruments on PS3, I'm sure the first thing HMX will do is sue them. Can't say I'd blame them either!

That captures my reservations about GH perfectly. I'm not someone who thinks Activision is evil and I think the "overcharting" complaints are excuses for people who can't play the songs. I've enjoyed each GH game (but 3 much less so than I and II). But the boss battles, in-game advertising and cartoonish look detract from the gameplay, whereas in RB the entire experience enhances the gameplay.

Thats nice and all, but how do they fail? and why? Can you please elaborate on your fancy claim. I will probably buy both because I love music and guess what?? Both games have music. Just asking for a little more from you.

I will probably get the ION drums, RB disc, GH:WT disc and whatever guitar I like more, but I will decide that later on... only about $500 LOL

No. Because of the lack of compatability on the PS3, there's no way I'm buying three $170-ish music game bundles in one year. And WT just doesn't excite me at all really.

The game's UI looks terrible, and I'm not happy with a lot of the design decisions that they've made which, while distinctly Guitar Hero, still feel primitive compared to Rock Band (such a shared star power meter.) If they can tighten up the game, make it look perhaps a little more professional, we may end up with it eventually. It would definitely be a rental first, however, and not until some weekend when we're taking a break from the joy that is Rock Band 2. ;)

Activision's announcement took me from "no" to "maybe", depending on if the Ion kit works with GH:WT, and what the setlist looks like.

No before, and no after.
After the way Activision pissed on all the PS3 Rock Banders with the whole compatability issue between RB and GH3, my boycott is still in effect.
I *might* consider renting the disk or buying the disk used *IF* the RB2 instruments work with it on the PS3. I will not contribute to their retail sales numbers.

Compatibility goes from absolutely not to a possibly. It now depends on the set list. If it is close to what is available in RB, no. If there are a number of songs I want and are not available in RB then yes.

All it would end up being is a single player game to me, and not the platform of awesome that is rock band.
DLC - Will theirs carry over? Either way, I've already got a bunch for RB.
Parties? - More songs on RB already, definitely not swapping disks
Create Music - If I'm going that far, I might as well plug it into my computer and do it for real.
Play others music - Not without a vox track.
GH would have to put together a library that surpassed RB's, and convince me that I wasn't paying $2/song to not be able to play it in future iterations.

There's no option for "maybe if it's compatible on PS3". I would seriously consider purchasing the game if my Rock Band instruments work for it on PS3. I don't want to buy new instruments though.

I honestly don't have the money for extra instruments lol, so if the GH3 guitar or the RB guitar works, and the RB drumset works, and the RB mic works, I might consider getting the game. I have a PS3, so I don't know what's up with the compatibility there; if it's like the GH3->RB1 guitar compatibility, forget it Activision, I'm not getting a whole new set of instruments (my mom doesn't like all of the plastic instruments and cords back there as it is now lol). Guitar Hero Aerosmith was a big disappointment to me though. The charting was way way off. I was playing chords when they should have been single notes, and sometimes it just... Idk it just didn't work; it didn't feel right. I think honestly though that they rushed through GH:A to get World Tour out.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'll buy the $100 guitar bundle because I need a new guitar (Overdrive doesn't like activating on my RB guitar, and it's a ***** to press the Back button all the time). I was undecided until it was confirmed that RB drums will work. There are just too many great bands (Hendrix, Doors, Eagles, Van Halen, Tool rumored) to pass up on.
On a side note, I don't get the deal with brand loyalty. Who cares who makes the game as long as it's good?

$60 for a karaoke game because Activision still won't admit they're wrong and enable cross-game instrument compatibility on the PS3?
No thanks.

ill probably just pick up the game and play it with my rb instruments, if the setlist is any good. hopefully the doors arent exclusive over there, and teh same for hendrix. (see marketing leak)

If Tool is on the frickin' game, I'm getting the disc. Yes, I would pay $60 straight up just to play a single Tool song.
Though, I'm sure they'll have other good songs.

Not necessarily true. The way that I play Rock Band, I'm just not interested in having to swap disks. I play with a bunch of people over and a bunch of DLC. We're really not going to swap disks mid party just for a couple of tracks.
I'm also not interested in splitting my DLC collection between two platforms. I really don't care much about world tours or gold stars or leaderboards.
It's not fanboyism just because HMX got the first mover advantage.
You'd have to wait for RB's standalone cymbals to be released, unless you wanna play WT and get 80% on every song ;)

enabling all those features for the drums on the 360... and not on the ps3?? that would be extremely idiotic even for Activision.

It will definitely be worth the 60 bucks for however many songs they have on the disk. RB2 will be infinitely better of course, but GH:WT will have some fun songs on there so I'll definitely be picking up the disk.

I'm sticking with RB and ONLY RB, and I could care less about anyone calling me a fanboy. We all have the liberty to spend our money however we want, and I prefer to give my money to the company that is going to allow me to play hundreds of songs without ever having to turn off my 360, swap discs, or anything else that could be annoying.
I simply don't like the charting in the GH game, and not a single song that they have or could have or will have will make me spend $60 on their game, period. I can use those $60 bucks for many other things...
