Zep has always been tough on digital distribution, but this year they have started to loosen up about it. I think I read that Harmonix said it is possible that they may get Zep

Well LZ just went digital so it could happen

No not really. iTunes just got them so it may just be a slow transition into digital distribution and non-traditional media.

Harmonix called Jimmy Page's mom a "Facist Whore" and there's just been bickering ever since.

...Er, I mean no, nothing official.

I don't think we'll see any zep for DLC this time around, but they might make DLC for RB2 if there ever is one. I just think it's a bit impossible at the moment and just won't happen.

Never said there would be one. I was simply saying IF there ever was one, Zep might make DLC on it, but not the CD.

Yeah - it's much the same as described above - LZ are very tough on how their music is distributed - people point to the iTunes deal, but for those of us here in Australia, you just have to look at the pricing in the store - $89.95 for a "complete" collection which is very far from complete, so you can imagine the kind of cash that would be involved in getting it into a video game - no matter how awesome that game will turn out to be ;)

Cameron Crowe tried unsuccessfully to get LZ to allow the use of music in his films for the longest time, and you're talking about a guy that has spent a lot of time on the road with the band way back when, and is personally good friends with both Page & Plant.

I believe that Led will probably tour after the upcoming London show - there's too much of a ramp up in all things "LZ" - maybe then they'll start seeking promotion wherever it may be, and the possibility of DLC could happen.

Sadly though, I think it will always be a costly exercise to try and license their music for anything other than reissue back catalogue music.

As others have pointed out, licensing for Led Zepplin has loosened up in recent years. If Cadillac is good enough to sell their music too, then RB has to be an interesting option. Here's hoping.

Cadillac just has really deep pockets I bet.

Maybe Rock Band could make a pleading video like Jack Black did for School of Rock.

Something with the line "Bow down to the gods of rock" might be useful.

Yeah, I was remembering that as I read this thread. Richard Linklater and Jack Black have been the only ones that managed to pull it off in recent memory and all it took was plea, a film crew, a crane shot and about 1000 Led Zeppelin fans...

Weird Al got permission to use Black Dog in his last album because Page liked him...

Maybe RB fans should join to make a video for LZ.

I remember that "Communication Breakdown" was in "Small Soldiers" too.

We could all record separate videos, and compile them together into one large video.

What do you think? Should we start a project to get Led Zep?

So we have essentially three options so far:

1. Wait for RB 2 (LAME!)
2. Beg our hearts and souls out. Tears would help.
3. Pray to God they just so happen to like somebody at Harmonix.

Damn. :p

rock band should include some tenacious D, and then we can use jack black again...then we get 2 awesome bands instead of 1 !

I fully expect to see some DLC within a few months of release, possibly this year.

Harmonix is trying very hard to get Zeppelin. If it's possible, they'll make the deal.

Also, Led Zeppelin sold away the rights to licensing their songs digitally to Warner Bros for something like $50 million up front. Believe me, if Warner Bros made that deal, they're going to do everything in their power to make money off of their licensing ability. The deal occurred too late to see anything on the disc, but we'll see some DLC.

However, I will predict that the price will be 25% to 50% more, since Warner Bros agreed to increase the royalty rates in their deal with the band.

If Jack Black had to beg Led Zep to use the Immigrant Song, how the hell did Shrek 3 manage to get it?

Yeah, there was a part when Snow White, I think it was, assaulted castle guards with animals while singing the song. It was a half-decent cover, but they got it.
