Well, Jane Doe needs to understand that carrying a lighter isn't just used for smoking.
When the blood sucking bats start coming, she'll wish she was with you.

Just be honest. Though it might be a bit late for that and she'll be mad you've already lied to her.

Girls:
1) Do not like to be lied to. They WILL destroy you for this.
2) Can not be changed. Believe me, it doesn't work.
Either tell her that you smoke occasionally and accept however she feels about it, or stop smoking, tell her you stopped, and apologize for not telling her you kept smoking.

If a person doesn't smoke... it's pretty darn easy to tell a smoker from a non-smoker.
I don't smoke.... my last ex did... she smelled and tasted like cigarettes.

A girl once told me that kissing me was like drinking beer out of an ashtray.:D

It's not true, Thrashdragon. Girls love me and I smoke. You're probably just not pretty enough. :P
She needs to have it cleared up for her that she doesn't make your decisions for you. If you decide to smoke, she makes the decision about whether or not she wants to be around you. If she does, she accepts it. If she does not, there will always be another girl. I'm not trying to be mean, but people are always afraid of burning bridges over stuff like this, and honestly, if the relationship ends because of something small like this, it probably isn't that important a relationship.

I completely agree. I'm an occasional smoker, and if anyone I knew decided they didn't like me because of that, I wouldn't consider it any great loss. I don't like associating with people that trivial.

As an ex-smoker (2 packs a day for over 25 years) I would highly suggest that you do not start up this terribly addictive health hazard. However, it's your life so do what you wish with it.

I was pretty enough...she didn't leave, she just complained about it. Nothing is more fun than corrupting good girls. :D
I second what the other poster said, though...don't start, you have no idea how freaking hard it is to quit. And one day when you start wheezing and can't run more than a few feet without gasping, you'll want to.

Honesty is best in all situations brother. If she cant take it, atleast she'll respect you for your honesty if not for your lubbin'

ace said it best. and it pains me to say that because I hate to agree with ibanez (he recently decided to stop being my BFFL) but that was too true.
my thoughts on the subject matter: Im a smoker. If I felt like I couldnt do it at work or when Im around 'janedoe' then I would just quit. real 'addicts' will just say **** it and smoke all the time. but thats good news, theres still hope for you. If you have friends that smoke (which Im sure you do, and the convenience is why you started) then just dont smoke around them. I recently quit pot, and all my friends still smoke. I let them smoke in my house, I just dont take part. Im just saying its doable. my previous advice being based solely on the fact that jane is completely ridiculously hot and you just want to get in her pants.
when all above is considered, quitting for a month (or two if your a prude) dosnt seem like that much of a sacrifice if you can get some sweet young poon that you will never be able to get again. cigarettes you will be able to buy for the rest of your life. young poon will only be here for a limited time, and that **** is even more exciting than when monopoly comes back to mcdonalds. trust me, quit.

Yeah, just dont start up, what's the point, so you can look 'cool?' I'm a pack a day smoker, just had my last one. I had quit last month for a few weeks, then my roomie tried to commit suicide, so i started back up again as a stress reliever, but i just had my last smoke a few minutes ago. Just dont start. Throw them away and get the sex.

You know what I love though? When overweight people tell me that smoking is bad for me. Hello? What the ef is that? Obesity is a much... BIGGER problem than smoking in the US, especially where I live. We're really somewhere near the top of the list for highest percentage of overweight people (Fatty McGoo's, as they may be known).
Smoking does not cause cancer, it increases the risk of cancer for people who are susceptible to those particular cancers; the building blocks have to be already there for you to get cancer.
It's the same with overweight people and heart disease, but I've never walked up to someone who is overweight and said, "You know, when you eat as much -and often- as you clearly do, it can give you heart disease." And if I smell a little like smoke, that's better than the smell of your sweat pouring down your rolls.
Gah.
