How cool would t be to someday be able to compose your own song on this game? Just by a simple placing of the pieces on the board? think of the replay value on that! And then playing your own song with your friends! Anyone with me??
Looks like harmonix just announced a game similar to this post

Yeah it could be cool, but it would involve a lot of work on HMX's part. Individual notes, note lengths etc..
All that said, it would be a great feature.
Also, it'd be cool if you could then go online and download other people's songs to play.

I think this is a long way off, at least 5 years or so. I think the next big step that is in reach would be to allow you to put in any CD and it would create the mapping of the notes for all instruments, kind of like a more advanced version of vib ribbon on ps1. Although this would kill the DLC......so it probably won't happen for that reason!

I don't think it'll happen.
If they put in a "Create A Song" mode, then people, as another user said, wouldn't have to buy DLC, and sequels wouldn't sell very well.

Could be cool. But I think we would see a lot of bad worked out songs then.
I think I would prefer to buy songs that are made by HMX, since I know it's good quality then.
But it would still be nice to have the option to create your own songs.

as some said i dont think it would kill dlc because you just probably couldn't emulate real songs well enough (although im sure there'd be a few people)

Can you stop double posting? I'm really getting sick of people not knowing how to use the edit button, and you're just clogging up the forums.

I haven't read the whole thread yet, so maybe this has already been pointed out, but that's pretty much impossible.

Amplitude and Frequency did this. In fact Amplitude went a step further by letting you go online and play your notecharts in co-op.
Entire remix communities even dedicated themselves to Amplitude and Frequency.
Those were probably the best Harmonix games ever. Too bad no one gave a sh¡t. :(

Well, I think it'd be a challenge to make anything that didn't suck incredibly. You'd have to have it so that you placed a note on the scrolling fretboard for the button you wanted it to match, then you'd have to assign it a note, presumably from a piano-key-style chart or something, then you'd add a canned sound to it. I'm sure this is technically possible, but you end up mostly with really bad midi sort of stuff - using all prerecorded guitar bass and drums sounds is going to sound really lifeless, no matter how well orchestrated it is. In a game that's supposed to be a rock star simulator, bland rock-by-numbers sounds pretty lame. Then you have the issue, for Rock Band at least, of having to have someone record vocal parts, and the vast majority of us are not going to be able to do much there that doesn't suck - I can't think of many things less appealing than playing a fan-made track only to have the vocals of prepubescent boy trying to sound like Green Day come on.

yeah those are good points, i do see how this would be really hard. perhaps it could be something like selecting a pre-set set of guitar sounds and working from those? But yeah I don't think the online exchange would work, defenitely local only now that I think about it. But you never know but for some people, (not myself) might enjoy the singing part most.
Im not syaig it wouldn't be hard, because it would, I'm just saying it would/ could be cool
