View Full Version : Confirmation on Drum Rocker cymbal distinction?

I see numerous posts claiming that in the game itself with the Ion drumset, it can tell the difference between the cymbals and the pads when you hit them in fills etc. Anyone have a confirmation of this?

I'm not sure if anyone has an official link stating, "Yes, when you hit a cymbal in X mode it will register differently," but the general concensus is that the different sounds will be available during fills and drum modes outside of songs.

No one from Harmonix has come out and directly shot this down, anyways.

It would only make sense to work that way anyways in my opinion. Considering it is supposed to act as an electric drumkit outside of RB. It would just make me feel like it was worth the money that I spent on the pre-order if it was confirmed. =P Thanks for the quick response by the way.

Someone from Harmonix has come out and directly stated this, actually. This is no general consensus. This is confirmed fact. :)

And yes, I have an official link. It was in HMXSprayandwipe's (Dan Teasdale, RB2 Lead Designer) blog.

Q: "RE: DRUMS AND ANNOUNCED CYMBALS
I understand the optional cymbals are just secondary inputs for the existing pads, but what about during fills and the "drum trainer" modes? Will those two things recognize the cymbals as unique inputs or will every part of RB2 just recognize the cymbal attachments as secondary pads?" - babywolf

A: While they're mapped to the same colors for the note charts, the Drum Trainer and fills in-game treat these surfaces are unique - hitting the yellow cymbal triggers a hi-hat, and hitting the yellow pad plays a tom. Same goes for all the inputs on the Ion kit and other third-party kits in development.

oh man, you know how awesome it would be to bang out a drum fill with three cymbals, four drum pads and a kick pedal...i would hope that this would work because that would add soooo much to the song and fills.

yes you can do that. its gonna help with fills. it was really hard to do a quiet one at a quiet part without ruining the song. behind blue eyes is gonna be a lot more fun. I'll just lightly tap a beat out on the ride cymbal while waiting.

thanks HMX!

Which pads in the Rock Band set have cymbal ports? All four colors?

I noticed that only Yellow, Green, and Blue have cymbal ports in the ION set.

Do we have to get the RB2 Drum Set Just So we can have the plug-ins, for the Cymbals?

Yes, the RB1 kit doesn't have ports for the cymbals. Sad but true...luckily, however there are some other good reasons for upgrading to the RB2 kit anyway (quieter velocity-sensitive pads with better rebound and metal-reinforced pedal for instance).

So no chance of cymbals on red notes? Aren't a lot of RB songs charted such that cymbals happen on red notes?

For those songs, such as RttH and Orange Crush, you could just switch to lefty mode. That way, all of the red notes would change to green. :)

I suggest that you can optionally turn on 'advanced notes'

From:

To: (sorry it is ugly ;-)

```/----\
That way, it would be indicating to hit the upper cymbal with the upward arrow. Would really like to see this!!!
Can an extra bass pedal be added to the ION set?
Man...I'm really trying to resist the IOn drumset and save some cash...but this pic:
...makes me want to sit down and play SO bad!!!
If the cymbals sound like cymbals during fills then I love it! Thats what I read, so it must be true...lol. I really hope it's true! The Ion set looks great anyways..
You are very very smart. I guess the chart would flip visually which might throw my brain for a loop but then it looks like I could easily change all the pads around physical to "unlefty flip it."
I believe so. It was mentioned during E3 though I can't find the link. The Drumkits are gonna feature 4 ports for 3 cymbals and an extra pedal. I'm not sure if this is true for the kit that comes with the bundle though.
I seen a pic in a thread a couple days ago. It showed the back of the RB2 set, where the controller part is.
Bass pedal on top, empty port in middle, 3 ports on bottom (y/b/g). The poster said he thought the extra port might be for a 2nd bass pedal but was only guessing at that.
Edit: sorry, wrong link. I'll try to find the right one.
Here's a pic of the RB2 set controller box inputs. Indeed 3 cymbal ports, a kick pedal port and one other mystery port. Likely a second pedal port. My only other thought is that it might be some kind of port to plug in a calibration accessory. A wired juice cable would have a different jack, so it's not that.
I also could swear that I recall that E3 spokesperson saying that two pedals can be used. But there's been such an overload of info in the last few days that I might have confused that with the Ion.
Holy Awesome, Batman!
First, Dark Knight comes out this week. Second, it has the most awesome trailer I have ever seen (Watchmen). NOW Dan Teasdale answers my question and confirms one of the only things that was conflicting me about RB2's awesomeness!
Definite nominee for best week ever. (Yeah, I understand how pathetic that is. :p)
