Y&T (Yesterday and Today)

I was just thinking of some bands that I was told to look up by my aunt and I remembered this band she kept talking about called Y&T, a band local to my area (Oakland, CA). So I checked out a few of there songs and they are pretty freakin sweet!! So I figured I would make a thread and see who else agrees that HMX should try to get these guys in the game. Ok so it's not much of a video but still all you need is to hear the music. This song just sounds like it would be a blast to play!!

Forever would be great.. so would Black Tiger, Midnight in Tokyo, Open Fire & Rescue Me... All would be great.. Especially if they could use the superior live arrangements from the Open Fire EP for Open Fire, Forever & Rescue Me.

(but please, no Summertime Girls... that pathetic attempt to cash in on hair metal with that stupid robot mascot pretty much killed a great bar band)

Like someone else said, no ones gonna wanna pay for some1 they dont know (Not literally). No matter how kick ass it is. But i do think theyre worthy.

I wouldn't mind if they were free. Just makes it that much better. Getting music from an awesome band for free is a plus. Besides if they released one song from them for free and a lot of people download it and like the song and band then when they release more (if they released more) for like .99 or the normal 1.99 I don't think many people would mind as much then and would be less hesitant to buy the songs.

Totally dude, classic rock is awesome. If you ask me you can't have to much classic rock in this game. Not many people know about this band though so figured I would spread the word. I figured they would be more well known though since they were together for 17 years before they split and released 12 albums.

Trouble is that free aint free. These free tracks that we see every now and again are paid for by somebody.... and I don't think that Meniketti with his one off's at Konocti is going to foot the bill.

Still, if HMX somehow decides to chart these tracks, I'd be first in line to buy.

That's true, but I'm sure that HMX wouldn't put Y&Ts songs up for free. Maybe .99 but not for free. The only songs I've seen HMX give for free were Still Alive and Promised Land. A video game song and and a song from a fake band in a movie. I was basically saying that if they did put it up for free I wouldn't complain, lol.

So even though it seems that not to many of the people on this forum know Y&T there songs wouldn't be for free. Hopefully with this thread though more people will see what a great band they are. Even though I seem to be the only who posts, lol.

So I just went on the Y&T/Meniketti forums and posted in the Ask Dave section (since he answers his fans there) if he would ever consider putting Y&T's music on Rock Band. I will let post what he replies if/when he does.

Well I waited a bit to see if Dave Meniketti would actually answer but I guess since someone else sent me to a different thread with what I was looking for he's not going to. So here is what I got, this was said when GH: Rock's the 80's was coming out. Someone pointed out that Y&T was left out of this game and it didn't seem like they were even trying to get into these games. This is a quote from Daves wife Jill about this comment



Huh? Who told you that? That's absolutely not true. The problem is that every band imaginable on this planet wants a song on Guitar Hero. The company is deluged with bands telling them "pick me, pick me!" Regardless how many times bands and their management call and beg and plead, bottom line is it's their company, their product; they pick who they want.

A few posts down Dave gave a post about something he was doing with GHIII. Here is what he said



This brings up something that I was supposed to be quiet about, until now.

Back in March I was contacted to sing a tune on the upcoming Guitar Hero III. They wanted me to sing either Paradise City or Back In Black. I went in a few days after the Independent show and chose to sing Back In Black, since I thought my voice would have been better served for that tune. Though it was a tough one to sing, because of how high it was (a lot of high E and G over high C in fulll voice), it turned out pretty darn good and my job was complete. I heard a few other tracks as well, like My Sharona, etc. It all sounded great. Then . . .

Today, after an inquiry into what happened, here's what the original producer of the music for GH III emailed to me about that track:

"Dave!

So good to hear from you.

Everyone loved the song (Back In Black) - we mixed it at Skysound, and used it in the demo version of our game. We were cruising along full bore...

And Activision cancelled the project on us, out of the blue.

It's been a few months now. We sit around waiting for something else
to do. Our spirits have been totally crushed.

I'll send you a mix of the tune, if you'd like. It all worked out just fine."

So now, I don't have to keep a secret about this, in fact I doubt it will ever be released. Too bad, actually, because that would have been a cool tune for GH. Oh well, **** happens.

I guess they decided to change course to an all 80's band thing after most of the production had been completed for the original idea. They have turned this thing into a big money maker and I wouldn't be at all surprised if they were accepting "donations" from bands that want their tracks on the new project. A new source of money stream for them could seriously have been considered here. Not saying any of this happened, but I wouldn't put it past the game company either.


So because of his post it leaves me to believe that even though I asked, HMX probably did the same as Activision and asked him to keep it a secret until something was officially announced. Which I should have thought about before asking. So my hopes are still up for them getting in this game!! So come on people REQUESTS Y&T TO GET INTO ROCK BAND!!!!!

Interesting. At least they know who Dave is. Wonder if they know the music? They (HMX) are just a bunch of kids from Boston, can't see that Y&T were all that well known outside of the bay area.

I'll keep pestering, though! Looking back in this forum the forums in general, I am one of the few that asked for Jane's Addiction consistently. IT never had a thread of it's own, just notations in the wishlist threads and low and behold Mountain Song is on the docket! YEah, Jane's was bigger that Y&T, but it's sunk into obscurity. SO anything is possible... keep bringing the question up.

I totally will dude. I've been requesting Forever whenever I see a "What song do you want in Rock Band" or "List 10 songs you think will work" or anything like that. Maybe I should request different songs as well so HMX can hear some of Y&T's other music. I'll keep at it though, they have to notice sooner or later.

One thing about Forever... was just listening to it on the Open Fire EP and we really need 2 guitars and a bass... all three insturments play distinctly, not much bass backing rhythm guitar like in most bands. But that, Rescue Me, or the epic, live I Believe in You would all be awesome to play in Rock Band... I would just like to have all 5 instruments... maybe when we all have 2.35:1 screens! hehe

Although I can't find a video for it Beautiful Dreamer would be awesome as well. There are just to many great songs by this band that I think would work perfectly. More people need to start checking these guys out and contribute, lol.

Y&T was HUGE in the SF bay area and they would've been HUGE in the rest of the country, except at that time in a move to save money the record companies were promoting bands regionally, so they didn't get the nationwide exposure they deserved. Bands from other regions also suffered the same injustice...bands like Kix from Baltimore, the B'zz from Chicago to name a few.

When I was in the military in the 80's, I'd turn on friends from all over the country to Y&T and without exception they all loved the band. I think if Y&T was available in RB, they would see the same reception.

I'd like to see some earlier stuff from Y&T...like....

I've loved Y&T for 25 years. So many great unknown songs.

What many people don't know is that Y&T was one of the original metal bands that now more widely known other bands opened for.

Free? No way, I'd pay full price for Y&T without hesitation. S*it, before iTunes was available, I bought their CDs from Asia and imported them to US for big bucks just to have them.

Forever is a must for RB. They have so many awesome songs (prior to Ten, IMO) I wish they were all in there.

NOw that we got Keys I'm half afraid that we'll get Summertime Girls. I understand that that's the biggest hit, but it's not representative. Like I said in previous pages, I'd rather have the raveups like Forever, Rescue Me, of I Believe in you or straight up rockers like Mean Streak or Midnight in Tokyo or Hurricane. Give me the real. I agree. The chances are very slim. RBN is probably our only hope on this one and that is almost as unlikely.
