I stepped on a nail once when I was like 12 and had to get a tetanus shot. That was fun.

I think stepping on a rusty nail is in my top 10 greatest fears.

Contrary to popular belief.. rust has no effect on whether or not you get tetanus. It just incubates well in a puncture wound which is why nails to the feet lead to tetanus often.

And yeah, its very, very unpleasant to feel it lodge into your foot. Yanking it out isn't much better

Look where you step, kids :p

Alrighty... I must warn you this is a very painful story.

A year ago I was coming through the doorway with a classmate behind me and for some reason she decided to close the door behind her. It seems as though I didn't get out of the doorway completely and my middle finger and part of my index finger got stuck in the part of the door that's closer to the wall (opposite from the handle part). I can't describe in words how much that hurt. I literally had to open the door to take my hand out.

My middle finger turned purple and I had to go get a hole poked through the nail to drain the blood. After a few weeks the entire area around my finger turned purple as well. That area along with my fingernail fell off. It's so freaky to see your fingernail along with what's around it fall off... :(

Luckily its all grown back and my left hand looks normal again. I would of definitely liked to step on a nail rather than have my fingernail fall off, trust me @_@

When I was a little kid I use to go to my grandpa's house. We'd go outisde and fish and such, well this was ocean water that leaded straight into the water so you weren't exactly catch bass or anything. Anyways, one day my dad tells me there is a shark under the boat across the water. He said he'd seen it when he lost in wallet and had to go down there to get it. Anyways, My bright ass decides it would be cool to catch the shark.

So I went over to the side with no railing and casted, the line snagged and I wasn't balanced properly so I fell in. So in a panic I decided to jump myself back up and the water wasn't really high enough. Well one thing I didn't know was there are oyster beds lined up against the wall, which are really really sharp. Imagine stepping on a bed of needles in salt water. So every time I jumped I came back down and the bed kept slicing my feet, I jumped about 6 times and then gave up.

I was laying there in the water tired and scared, so I decided to give it one last ump. Failed again but the second time I managed to barely get the tip and pull myself up. Then I walked into the house crying and everyone laughed at me and my dad helped me while cracking jokes. Amazing way to treat your 11 year old lol

Edit: I'm pretty sure it was an oyster bed... or some rocks, either way it hurt like hell.

I got a slice of skin taken off the bottom of my big toe from a broken shell of some kind while I was in the ocean once. Don't particularly care for ocean swimming, personally. Too many random objects/creatures down there.

Oh my God, please stop. This turned into the worst thread ever. /shiver

(you don't actually have to stop, I'm just begging you)

Although I guess I should ante up... I can talk about boils and pus on Halloween right? Okay here goes.

So when I was in college (not very long ago actually, so don't be fooled!) I got mono. Basically whatever I had really effected my throat, and I got boils basically in the back and I couldn't swallow or eat or drink anything. Eventually I had to go to the hospital, where they injected me with steroids. This reduced the swelling for a day or two, but it just came right back and I still couldn't eat. Finally I was referred to an ENT specialist. When I got there, he took one look at me and whipped out a needle and a syringe that was at least six inches long. So, with this giant needle he punctured the back of my throat where all the boils were and basically just had to drain all the pus out. It was gross.

It was awful, but provided instant relief. I had a pizza that night. The end.

Pansies! I've been ran over, had my leg shut in a car door, hit in the head with a bat (twice!), stabbed in the throat with car keys (crazy ass ex), nearly died from staph infection, been stabbed (or cut), and more that I don't care to list right now. All true. A little ***** from a nail ain't gonna kill ya. Live a little, boi!

Johnloks story sounds kinda unpleasant though.

I stepped on a nail when i was like, 8 or 9... went clean through my foot (luckily missed any bones and major veins though)... the worst part was, I was wearing some form of boot, and the nail was more stuck in the boot than my foot. THAT was bad...

I've had my right hand broken more times than I'd like to imagine... Usually due to me punching solid objects when pissed off, so I have no one to blame other than myself. Had a few karate-related incidents, including both my shins bruised so badly during an upper-belt sparring match or three that they didn't heal for at least five months. My whole shin.. Both of them. Anything touched my shins, and it felt like i was hit with a stick lol...

Other than that, I've done my best to avoid pain. I kind of don't like it.

Edit: Ibanezbassist has the worst luck ever. I'd say to stay indoors, but I'm sure he'd find a way to impale himself on his Rock Band-branded drumsticks regardless.

I did too. It suddenly made my crazy ex's less crazy by comparison.

My ex-boyfriend steppen on a nail when he was in highschool and almost had to get his foot amputated.

Poor guy. 3 years later he got his pinky cut off by a band saw. :/

I've just had a set of basic injuries really.

Broken arm in 6th grade gym
Fractured eye socket and concussion senior year of high school playing two hand touch. lol
Torn MCL and minor concussion in skiing accident 2 years ago.

I'm only 21. I feel like I should have been hurt more by now. :D

I don't think of it as luck. Most of it was due to stupidity.

Maybe I'm just a lucky person, but I have never broken or sprained anything or ever faced anything even close to life-threatening.

As I was reading this I thought of Marv from Home Alone on those stairs... remember that?
But I haven't had any accidents or broken bones in a while which is a good thing....
I have a pretty long list of broken bones and injuries but that's a whole different story

This turned into the best thread ever. CRINGE CRINGE.

Nail through the foot suddenly doesn't seem as bad... I've definitely had worse and more bizarre too..

When I was 10, I was playing tag on this little playground my grandma had in her yard with a couple kids... This one kid was it and I was on the ground. I ran down under the fire pole and somehow, don't ask me how, he came down it at such a time [And apparently with his mouth open wide enough] so that his two full grown front teeth sort of.. half 'bit' into the top of my head... I have a hard head I guess and he had a lot of force, so both of them popped out onto the lawn.

I needed stitches and his family was somewhat poor, so he walked around for a few weeks with a paperclip holding his front teeth in.

I kid you not.

Thats probably the most bizarre injury story I have.

Let me tell you about the worst "accident" I've had... or worst injury I've ever had... It was my sophomore year of high school and it was our second to last football game of the year, I was shifted to halfback that game and I it was all going good till the third quarter... I planted my foot about to make a move and it got stuck and their linebacker closed in and got me from the front and this other cheap safety hit me from the side and they pretty much snapped my femur in half and I heard it too but I didn't feel the break... but it was a terrible sight, the bone tore a little through my skin and so it was sticking out almost an inch... I don't remember passing out but they said I was un-responsive for a few seconds and I didn't cry at all, which is probably because I was to busy screaming

And it gets worse... the hospital they took me too was terrible and they messed things up even worse.. they performed 3 surgeries which were almost totally unnecessary and they left me some permanent scars on my foot and upper thigh because of poor casting... So we decided to transfer me to transfer me to Children's Memorial.... so the Dr. cut the string holding my leg up and it just dropped and I heard it crack and it pretty much re-broke... so the entire ambulance ride I had no cast and the paramedic was pretty much holding my leg up.... when I got to CM they fixed did a great job... I had to more surgeries and they inserted pins in between my bone (which I needed surgery to remove later)

It was pretty much the worst pain I have ever been through... after this I had a few more injuries but they were nothing compared to breaking my femur... It also pretty much ended my football career and I missed the rest of the school year, it was months before I could even walk on my own again
