View Full Version : Will Thrasher ever be topped?

I speak of difficulty of course, difficulty on Guitar.

We all know Thrasher is the hardest Guitar song, and so far nothing on RB2 setlist will top it imo. But do you honestly think anything will?

Good lord, I hope not. It took me 4 months to get through it with three stars.

I only bought thrasher from the Earache pack. How do the other two compare on guitar?

snow is harder imo lol, thrasher is easy, i mean anyone can strum up and down really fast, and the solos are not too technical just repeated patterns. what thrasher is, is the hardest song to gold star, that is just about it, it's not too difficult. snow is way more technical, hell blackened is more technical.

Snow is harder than Thrasher.

I think Ride the Lightning is too.

Actually, I am :p

I don't use the solo frets, though. I have an Xplorer, too, but I don't use it. I just like the feel of the strat a lot better.

"and the solos are not too technical just repeated patterns."

That's exactly what Snow is.

Snow took me one try to 4 star.

Thrasher took me 10 tries to 3 star.

Blinded by Fear is rather easy for me to five-star, even though I suck at alt-strumming (the only part I do alt-strum is the GR chords). Sure, it is fast, so endurance is an issue, but it's nowhere near Snow or Thrasher in difficulty.

Also, the solo might be the easiest part of the song, ironically enough.

As a pretty average player on guitar, I can say Thrasher was at least not my last hurdle, Ride the Lightning was.

Of course, when the dust (finally) settled Thrasher sat at 3 stars while RtL was 4, and I'm probably more likely to pass RtL now than Thrasher.

But then I savagely sabotage the solos in both songs. I really don't enjoy the hard guitar songs, but that NEW icon had to go.

Snow took me much less effort to pass than these two.

If they fix the strum limit, than Thrasher will be easy. To be honest, Thrasher is really easy to pass, so imo, Panic Attack will be harder to pass if they chart the keyboard, maybe even if they don't. But it doesn't matter, I'll pass it first try. :)(Like I've done with every song.

thrasher is not too hard. actually imo painkiller, battery, and panic attack should top it but they screwed up the listing anyway just like afterlife and shockwave are in the 8th set while both bang camaro songs are in the 9th. and how bout working man is in 9 but working man vault edition is in 7 and the vault edition is actually just as hard as the original. obviously their not ordering them correctly cause i thought afterlife's solo would make it a deff 9 but apparently not.

Eh, I'm the opposite. I passed Blackened and Thrasher on my sight-reads, and only failed once on Ride The Lightning before passing it. Snow, however, took MANY more tries for me to pass it. Different folks, different strokes.

Also, off-topic, but I LOVE your avatar. Monster Rancher 2 was such an amazing game.

I always hear the term "strum limit" being thrown around during GG&HT FCing and Thrasher discussions. Could someone care to elaborate?

Also, finally successfully did a multi-quote. Woot!

Strum Limit is 15 NPS (Notes per second)

Thrasher has a constant 15.1 NPS strumming speed

And the fast part in the middle of the second solo has a 20 NPS speed....

Amazing, but pretty low-key. I'm surprised; I really don't expect anyone to recognize that Stinger avatar, especially two console gens later. For some reason the avatar's stuck with me all those years across all kinds of forums.

I think some people are unable to do fast strumming without clicky feedback.

It already has been; I find Snow (Hey Oh) much more difficult.

Hokonoso
07-20-2008, 12:57 AM
well it's liek this, if you are a pro at alt-strumming (strumming up and down no matter what) then snow is not hard, but if you are the other 99% of the world then snow is harder than thrasher, blackened, ride the lightning (which can all be beat without being pro at alt-strumming)so imo snow is more technical than the rest, but the pattern is what kills me not the speed, it just flat out hurts my fingers!

I can't believe people even suggest RTL as hardest song. What is so hard about RTL? I've beaten it every time I've played it since I bought the game christmas and it's cake to pass. Is the solo really so hard for some of you guys or what's the problem with the song cuz I don't get it.

When I encountered zigzags in Freebird and then GG&HT, I got through by sliding my finger across the frets. It worked wonderfully well.

Then RtL introduced the evil, evil idea of having zigzags with "holes" in them.

Well your form is flawed, don't use one finger, that screams inconsistency. Practice this, it works for all zigzags and even with stuff like Afterlife's zig-slide. If there is a ziz zag let's say on the ride side of the screen, you simply shift your hand and use the middle finger for the blue, ring for orange, and index for yellow. Very simple. If the ziz zag is somewhere else, just shift your hand. Much easier I tell ya, give it a shot.

I've beaten Thrasher once, and that's all I'm going to bother doing. NEVER revisiting it, unless it still has "new" on it in RB2... then I'll have to toughen it out again.

I can beat Snow constantly now, just took a few failed attempts to get it down.

I can beat GGaHT constantly now as well, after spending months trying to beat it. I can even do the zig-zags without having to use Overdrive.

Ride the Lightening always screws me up the first time I try to play it, but if I play it again immediately afterwards, I can beat it. I've failed it numerous times in band quickplay on Expert, it makes me feel like crap because I know I can beat it.

Blackened I've only beaten twice, but I don't attempt it any more. It's sort of in the same boat as Thrasher.

On another note, I managed to 100% the first riff section of The Joker and the Thief today... only to end up failing the second riff section. Don't tell me how that works, I think I was just excited at a GS possibility.

Well... Freebird's zigzags were RYB (at least the first one) so that was my natural finger placement and I still gravitated towards sliding the index (after failing out a bunch) because it made following the tempo so much easier - you just have to slide back and forth to a constant triplet beat.

With RtL I couldn't do that anymore, so it was back to trying and failing the traditional way until I gave up and just dropped every fourth note - the one that climbs back up the zigzag.

It doesn't really matter to me though. My focus for improving scores is on drums, and I'm content just passing the songs once on guitar.

Thrasher is my current project song... it's the only song in my setlist without 5 stars next to it, and it bugs the crap outta me lol. I just gotta figure out how make the energy phrases not disappear before I get to them. O_o After that I think I've got a shot.

I'm the same way, but Guitar I do for score and I'm good at it. Drums I go for just beating the song. I beat Afterlife and was happy about it, that song is pretty tricky at times.

I don't understand how Ride the Lightning can be considered harder than Thrasher, I 5 starred RTL on maybe my second try. Blackened is much harder than RTL, and Thrasher is much harder than all of them.

I don't even put Snow in the same league as any of them.

And the fast part in the middle of the second solo has a 20 NPS speed....

So, what you're saying is, is that Rock Band can't register strums faster than 15 NPS? Then why can't GG&HT be FCed with HO/PO skills?

Why does the strum limit even exist? And is it why I always seem to go into red during the verses of Thrasher and got 2 stars on my bass sight read, or was that just my Strat??

The strum limit is roughly 16 NPS, whereas Thrasher's strumming is roughly 13NPS.

Snow is not harder then Thrasher, and RTL is def NOT harder then Thrasher. If you can pass GG&HT you can pass Ride The Lightning. And I am going to say it, Snow is easy to pass. EASY -- How is it easy? It's not hard to maintain without failing, the only problem with it is it hurts my hands like you wouldn't believe. First time I played I failed the song because of that and I had to stop playing. Thrasher is bar none the hardest song in the game, and people say you can just strum up/down really fast. I still don't know the rythm of it and I can pass the song nearly every time. Easier said then done!

Paste a photo of Thrasher here, and I will show someone who can beat Maps to beat the song! That's exagerating a little bit but seriously, if you can beat Tier 7 songs my method will make it EASY for you. Though pain will still be a factor!

Snow forget about it that song it just stupid ...I can beat it but its not worth all the time it would take to do it . Sad thing is one on gh3 is easier then all the songs listed above besides gght and blackened.. As for trasher i really dont like the tune so i am not gonna use my money on it..

The reason some people think the complicated songs are harder than thrasher:

If you play this game 7 hours a day youll get alot more technical, and your fingers will get faster. Your rhytm on the other hand! Something you need in thrahser. Guys, your rhytm still sucks. Ride the lightning is beyond anything i will even try. Thrasher on the other hand. 4 stars on first try. You just need the timing

I beat every song in the game sightread except Trasher took me two or three tries. I 5* Ride the Lightning and Snow on sightread (don't ask me how). The only songs I don't have 5* on are Trasher and Blackened. I have 3* on Trasher and 4* on Blackened. I use the X-Plorer.

Afterlife isn't harder than thrasher, lol. The solo is, yea, but not the entire song. Afterlife is cake if you understand how to do the zag-slide. Everything else is technical but not hard to play, the solo of course is just insane and you'll have to use OD most likely which Thrasher doesn't need if you're good enough. Either way, Thrasher main parts > Afterlife main parts by ALOT!
