Plug it into the controller you're using for the vocalist. If it's wireless headset, just sync it to the proper controller.

Plug in microphone
Plug in controller (gamepad)

- I think that's about it... the mic is the "utility" for singing, but the controller lets you select your character venue etc.

Plug(or sync) the mic in.
Turn the controller on.
Turn the mic on.
Try to start playing.
If it doesn't work, wait a few seconds and try again.
If that doesn't work, wait a few more seconds and try again.
If that doesn't work, screw it, but it should work.

You can either ignore them(it wont make you fail, they are just for bonus points) or say "pop" in to the mic(kinda screws up your timing).

Take my advice; don't. It is absolutely terrible at picking up your voice. I couldn't pass easy songs, and with the Rock Band mic, I can do some expert and all songs on hard.
