Has anyone else here sent in their 360 to get repaired from the ring (of death)?

Mine crashed almost two weeks ago (while playing some Beautiful Katamari), and thanks to their UPS three day shipping, it was just received at their service center yesterday. I was curious if any of you guys (or girls) had Microsoft repair your 360, and how long the whole process took for you. The tech support guy on the phone said the whole process (including back-and-forth shipping) will take 2-4 weeks, and I highly doubt that considering it took nearly two weeks for them to receive it.

As long as I have it back November 19th, I'll be happy. ;)

On a side note, a friend brought over his 360 to play GH3 this past weekend and while playing, his 360 also got the ring. He didn't want to wait; however, and just picked up a 360 arcade. But if I don't get mine back in time....I just might be a fool and purchase another one... (plus I really want to finish Katamari).

I hade to send my xbox in a while back. The whole process should take about 3 weeks and no more than 4.

Did you get yours rebuilt or a new one? (mine was almost a launch one, made in December 2005)

I also wouldn't mind an HDMI port...

From my send off date at the UPS store it took me exactly 2 weeks to get it back. They 'fixed' mine and game a free month of gold live service. I have not had problems with it since.

I sent mine in at the beginning of July (July 7th I think), and I got it back on Sept 1st, but the cool thing was it wasn't my xbox, it was a brand new one that had a mfg date of July 27th, and still had the lot stickers from the pallet on the box ;)

Mine died around mid-october, and they got it at the center the other day. So around two weeks to get the box and for them to get it back. I should be good for getting it within 3 weeks for rock band.

edit: also, katamari is a blast, but totally not worth getting a new xbox to finish.

I sent mine in a little over a week ago and got a new one back yesterday. Talk about lucky!

Might not live long, though. It was made at the end of March of last year.

Mind if I ask a quick question?

Did your xbox show any signs of it getting red ringed before it happened, mine has been having trouble readings some discs and for some reason guitar hero II has froze 2 or 3 times and III once, some games will be fine though so it makes me think its the drive rather than the red ring problem. However I was just wondering if you had odd behavior before it happened so I can prepare as mine is a launch one too.

The only thing I noticed a bit is that there seemed to be some slow-down while playing games (not latency/lag, as I wasn't playing online). Other than that, I wasn't playing it for hours on end or anything. When Dead Rising first came out, I played that game in probably five hour blocks and nothing ever happened. I heard a rumor from a friend that apparently all of the older 360s will fail at some point... That could be completely false and/or his imagination, but I'm sure the failure rate is higher than Microsoft's predicted 30-33%.

Sounds like a drive problem. Mine was perfect, and then randomly wouldn't boot a game. and then i got Rrod about 5 minutes later.

Same thing with me but mine too 3 weeks to the day to get back. I had it shipped to work and everyone was thinking about how much trouble we would get into if we hooked it up and played a little GHII. It didn't happen, I need my job to pay for RB.

Mine took almost 3 weeks to get it back. It played games great however when I tried to watch DVD's in it it kept freezing. Called tech support and they said i could either send it back or i could just watch movies on another one of my DVD players. Do you believe that? Dude wanted me to keep my broken 360. So i sent it back with a nasty little note and i'm just hoping to see it by the time RB hits the streets. Also what is with Microsoft trying to buy our affections back by sending 1 MONTH subscription to XBOX LIVe?? First, i already have a subscription and they should credit that to my account anyway since my damn console is on the back of a UPS truck for 4-6 weeks. Second, a 1 month subscription is the equivalent of 5 bucks. Microsoft blows. IF if didnt have alot of money invested in my 360 already i would go out and buy a PS3.

Sorry for dragging up an older topic, but I just wanted to comment on what has happened. I just got my Xbox back yesterday (it's the same one), and it runs a lot quieter than previously, but it won't play games. Every time I put in a game it thinks it's a dvd and says "to play this disc, put it in an Xbox 360 console." I called tech support and apparently I have to now wait 7-10 days for another box (because apparently I can't use the one that's still sitting in my living room). And now it'll be another 3-4 weeks until I get it back. They offered me a free game for my trouble, but I refused as I don't really want a crappy launch title. I'm going to call and complain to a supervisor (I'm sure that's not going to do anything at all), but now I'm really pissed and considering buying another 360 as I know I'm not going to be able to play Rock Band for at least another month if I wait for it.
