View Full Version : Sold my PS3 Rock Band and bought it for Xbox 360

I sold my PS3 Rock Band, full set, today. I had bought every DLC for the PS3 version and I was a little sad to see my set go. I had bought drum silencers and reinforced kick-pedal from ebay. But I did get a decent price.
Now I have the game for X360 and I've pre-ordered the drumrocker premium drum set and I can't wait for Rock Band 2.
For the time being, can I use whatever microphone or does it have to be Rock Band issued?

you sold your ps3 system as well?
360 is the version to have, but you lost a lot of money that way, haven't you?

Wow, huge mistake.
I own a PS3 and while a month earlier for the game itself sucks a bit, it's not that much longer.
Also, now you'll probably have to buy a Blu-ray player down the line if you're into that sort of thing, digital media is way too far off no matter what people want to believe.
Anyways, hope you're happy - that's the most important thing, this really didn't need to be a post.
Out before the inevitable flame war and bannings.

I don't think he sold his PS3.
He just sold his Rock Band for the PS3.
Seriously, that was stupid. If you made an investment into the game on your platform of choice, you don't throw something like that down the drain.

Funny thing is as a ps3 Rock Band gamer I can totally understand it. The 360 gets all the exclusives, all the features, all the support.
If you were to ask any Harmonix employee what the no. 1 Rock Band platform is, they'd all say the 360. No doubt about it.

There are times were I've thought about it. However, when RB came out originally, I only had the PS3. I won a 360 a month later.
I invested in the PS3, so, that's what I'm sticking with. Even if I only have one other friends with the game and a PS3 versus many with 360s and the game.

I have both systems, and I've thought about switching over to the 360 version when rb2 comes out. Not because of the month wait (personally I could care less about the wait), but because the 360 version seems to be better supported and less buggy than the ps3 version. But I have all the dlc on the ps3 and the thought of throwing it all away just strikes me as being pretty dumb. Still, I guess if you have enough extra cash to toss around, more power to you, OP.

I am sure he has both systems and simply sold his kit. (probably to cover his DLC loss) It's not that big of a waste if you think about it. We all have RB1 now with kits. Most of us are upgrading to Ion set or getting the new kits for added functionality so he would have paid for that in the end. He does take a loss for his PS3 DLC but this could be justified with the sale of his old kit.
I have both systems and did this just after launch (so I did not have that many DLC at that point). My motivation at that time was compatibility with LP guitar. Now not to flame the PS3 users (remember I still own one) but let me say that with the recent Microsoft compatibility enforcement, I am one happy gamer and even more grateful I made the switch early in the game.
So he gets his game early, he obviously can afford it (which I'm starting to get really annoyed at all the post flaming users that spend on this hobby. If we can afford to wipe our a@@es with $20, then better for us) and has choices when it come to compatibility in hardware and games.

I'll agree with you to a point, because it's only because the 360 is a more popular system in the states. Places like Japan, you have 10 PS3's to every 1 360. But I think the experience will be getting only better for the PS3, because sales of the PS3 have been up for months. It's been stated if sales go like this the PS3 will catch up to 360 sales in one year time (US and International). It just seems they support where they can make a bigger buck, with that closing I think everything will change.

Let me explain. All my friends have Xbox 360 and they are finally got their Rock Band game this summer when it was released in Europe. It sucked to not being able to play with them online.
Yes I threw away more than $250 of DLC. I bought every song before The Who pack.
I see a significant difference in the Xbox 360 version. The PS3 version is laggy, it takes me forever to scroll down the setlists and the graphics are not as crisp as they are on the Xbox 360 version.
I've bought all the DLC that I liked from the PS3 version...AGAIN!!! <--- Harmonix, notice my loyalty! I do not miss a penny.
Currently I'm only playing Rock Band on the Xbox 360 using my GH3 controller but in september I'll be in the United States and will most certainly buy two new rock band 2 wireless guitars for the Xbox 360.
Right now I'm just wondering if you have any suggestions for a good looking and well functioning microphone to use with the game.
Thanks for all the replies.

I did advertise my PS3 for sale along with all that DLC but people didn't care that much for it.
I really do not like my PS3 for games. I only use it for Blu-Ray from now on. I keep reading and hearing that this is the most advanced console in the world but for me it has been an on-going let down.
The reason I bought Rock Band for PS3 was because a friend of mine imported it and I had to do it too. I'm more into Xbox 360 and Rock Band on Xbox 360 wasn't possible here in Europe on that platform in January 2008.
If someone wants to trade my PS3 for another PS3 just for the DLC I'm willing to do that for free. That way someone will benefit from my DLC.
Edit: I have to add that ever since I got my Xbox 360 and started earning gamerscore I have not had the same joy playing games on other consoles not equipped with gamerscore meta-game. I think I put a lot more effort into my X360 games now.

I have a 58" inch Panasonic HDTV and both consoles are connected through my Yamaha RXV3800 amplifier. I see a significant different in graphics. On the PS3 everything has less detail, more blurry and the grain effect is much thicker than on the Xbox 360 version. On the Xbox 360 version I can see posters hanging in the ceiling of big stadiums and I can read them now. I have to add that both consoles are connected via 1.3 HDMI certifed cables and are displayed on the same input on the Panasonic.
The winner is clearly the Xbox 360.

It'd want to be, too, because that's where Sony have been putting all of their money.
In the meantime, as a games console, it's getting it's arse kicked. Rock Band isn't exactly the exception to the rule.
Is there anyone left on the planet who thinks Sony merging their high-definition format into the new Playstation was a good idea?

Is there anyone left on the planet who thinks Sony merging their high-definition format into the new Playstation was a good idea?
I wouldn't say that has as much to do with the PS3's lack of games as:
Sony's unnecessarily complex (from a developer's standpoint) architecture
Microsoft's willingness to throw as much money as necessary into its gaming division to get it to win
The 360's coming out fully a year in advance, building an install base and demand for games
Sony's relatively small amount of interest in supporting the US market, as seen by their US PSN releases vs. JP releases
Ponies
While I have a decent rant going, I'll throw the $10 bump on game prices over the previous generation in there. That would apply to the 360 as well, if I wanted one. And do you really think you deserve $40 for a DS game, Square? Yeah, I get plenty of playtime out of them, but do you really need to demand that extra five dollars?

i have rb for both systems and i gave the ps3 version to my dad as it sux so badly, the getitng rb2 early has nothign to do with his decision im sure, this game is at least 10x better on 360 (i have it on both so i know first hand), and it has always been this way, even without the knowledge of rb2 coming out, this was a great decision by the OP. also i had all the dlc up to the date i stopped playing it on ps3 as well, and then rebought all of them for xbox, those of us who are rich can afford to do this, and for those who can, it's way worth it! hell if you can afford a ps3 you can afford a 360 on top of it, i dont know ppl who managed to get a ps3 yet cant afford a 360, it costs too damn much to not be able to buy both imo. but all the features on xbox just makes the OP look like a genius in every way shape and form!

Yea, same here. I have a PS3. (note I bought it, it wasn't a givaway) I played RB on a 360 at my neighbors house and was completely dissapointed. (note, he has a 360 because it was a door prize for some charity event) Load times were longer, graphics stunk, even though (in my opinion) his TV was better than mine. The box was noisy. In short, the only thing he could do that I couldn't was voice chat. Big whoop.
As for the crappy graphics, I thought it was an issue with his set up. We spent hours going over his entire home entertainment system and couldn't come up with a reason. Completely digital from 360 to the TV.
He didn't believe me when I told him it looked better at my place, until he came over and saw it for himself. The only thing we haven't tried, is switching boxes. Putting my PS3 on his system, and his 360 on mine.

I dont know many people with ps3s...most of my friends are poor college students who got 360s when they came out...then got RB for christmas...Its nice them being able to bring a guitar over because I only have 1...I played RB on ps3 once and the guy had every dlc and it would freeze if you tried to scroll through it too fast...but I felt that may have been his system...as far as graphics they look the same to me...PS3 lighting is a little darker with better shadows, Xbox is a little less blurry...but when looked at side by side on HDTV you can't tell a real big difference...

There's some real nonsense in this thread. I own RB on PS3, two of my friends have it for XBOX 360. In MY experience the gameplay is identical. The graphics are identical. I have never had any lag issues on my PS3.
Just want to point out that not all PS3 users experience has been the same.
This whole console war is silly, it boils down to preference and perspective. For example, one of my buddies constantly tells me that he is smarter for buying his 360 at launch and paying less than I did for my PS3. Then I pointed out that the cost issue was a silly one considering he's been paying 60 bucks a year to play online while I can do so for free. Even just 2 years of Xbox live service has added $120 to the cost of his 360, and the longer he has it the cost of the system is increasing.
But whatever, to each their own.

It's definitely a better online experience, but for me personally it doesn't justify the cost. The PSN is getting better.
The difference maker for me when deciding which system to buy was Blu-Ray. Now, if you don't care about Blu-Ray it's another story. But looking around online just now I see the cheapest Blu-Ray players for about $300.
I feel like I got a little more bang for my buck, but it's different for everyone.

Accually I do and thats why I'm considering selling my wii and psp to buy a ps3 :)
I figure when fight club comes out on bluray ill have to break down and get it.
I think the 360 and ps3 can get along mostly.....untill the fanboys break in and crash the party.
The wii on the other hand ......just jokin :D
yeah but thats $50 (where i am) -60 a year allows him more features than what the ps3 has to offer. its not like u both get the same thing only hes paying. hes paying to get more.
and i don't care what anybody says, but the best thing about xbox live is u having to pay 50-60 a year. its cheap enough so if u want it its easily affordable, but being a cheater or a complete jackass will get u banned, meaning a new account, which is a viable barrier to the internet scum. 60 might not be enough to thwart douches, but around 120 -180 a year (cuz theyre forced to get new accounts) is pretty high. either that, or the majority of ppl have mics. online with nobody talking feels like playing with really bad bots.
Like I said it's all a matter of preference. My point to him was that I paid a fixed price to get what I wanted while he continues to pay year after year. If you figure that he'll have the system for 7 years or so how much has he paid to play games online while I'm paying nothing? Right now there are definately advantages to the XBOX Live service Vs. PSN but who's to say that a year or two down the road PSN doesn't catch up?
Accually I do and thats why I'm considering selling my wii and psp to buy a ps3 :)
I figure when fight club comes out on bluray ill have to break down and get it.
I think the 360 and ps3 can get along mostly.....untill the fanboys break in and crash the party.
The wii on the other hand ......just jokin :D
Tyler Durden would by a PS3 ;)

I like not having to make chit chat while playing RB online lol :) If I want to chat I could play something else like Warhawk.
JP releases
Ponies
Yup. I remember the designers of the Xbox saying something to the effect that they'll lose this generation, but the real key was getting the name, the brand, and most importantly, Xbox Live out there. MS seems to know what American gamers want overall. Namely, a really good online service that allows the competitive American nature to be sated. It's no surprise that lots of really popular Xbox games all shine on multiplayer (Gears, CoD4, Halo3, Madden).
Being easy to program has a huge advantage. Remember how Saturn lost to PS because of difficulty to program? It's been shown repeatedly in gaming history that superior technology means nothing without developers using it. Sega Master System, Saturn, Xbox, PS3. All these systems are/were the most powerful in their generation, but it didn't mean victory. A combination of power and ease of use is most important.
I'll go ahead and say that most likely psn will never completely catch up to xbl. its not like ms is sitting idly by why ps3 is catching up. regardless, that barrier to cheaters and jag-offs benefits xbl. less cheating is always a bonus.
like you said, its a matter of preference. we each bought our consoles for different reasons. u said yourself blu ray was a major selling point. for me, online gaming is the most important aspect. we both got the only viable option if u seriously care about your preferences.
I think we can agree here. I expect that XBL will always be a step ahead of PSN but I'm hoping that gap closes over the next couple of years. Also I've never ruled out buying a 360 at some point. The deciding factor will probably be exclusive titles.

Unless you really needed a Blu-Ray player right now, you made the right move.
It's pretty likely MS will win this generation. All the signs points at it. That being said, MS will fail at some point and another company will take the lead. Not sure if it'll be Nintendo or Sony, since I don't think a company has ever made a comeback after losing it in video games. Wii is the closest to it, and it seems like all the gamers just hate the system, and that Nintendo is living off of casual fans for years now (with Gameboy, DS, and now Wii).
Hard to define a "win" though isn't it?
I mean if it's just how many units sold, Nintendo is "winning" right now no?

Depending on which company you are, you can spin the numbers all sorts of ways to claim victory. In fact, they do just that all the time. In the end, if each console maker is profitable overall, they'll be victorious.

i have rb for both systems and i gave the ps3 version to my dad as it sux so badly, the getitng rb2 early has nothign to do with his decision im sure, this game is at least 10x better on 360 (i have it on both so i know first hand), and it has always been this way, even without the knowledge of rb2 coming out, this was a great decision by the OP. also i had all the dlc up to the date i stopped playing it on ps3 as well, and then rebought all of them for xbox, those of us who are rich can afford to do this, and for those who can, it's way worth it! hell if you can afford a ps3 you can afford a 360 on top of it, i dont know ppl who managed to get a ps3 yet cant afford a 360, it costs too damn much to not be able to buy both imo. but all the features on xbox just makes the OP look like a genius in every way shape and form!
Three times in the "paragraph" you mention how the PS3 version sucks comparative to the XBox 360 version. YET, you do not mention even one iota of supporting argument, just offering that it is bad. I own the game for the PS3 because I got my 360 after I got Rock Band, but I have played both versions extensively and I can say that there is NO DISCERNIBLE DIFFERENCE in the gameplay, graphics or anythings else.
Yes the setlist scrolls slower for PS3, but that's hardly a reason to forsake one system for the other. Online play is a little more fleshed out but that's due to XBox live and not cause of Rock Band itself. The whole tru-skill rating or whatever and online voice, yes that's a step up from PS3.
If you're going to slam on one system so badly, you could at least throw a LITTLE logic out there.

Seems to me like you just listed quite a few discernable differences :)

Japanese don't think so.
(The 360 is a huge failure in Japan, while Wii, PSP, DS and PS3 sales are dominant)

some developers complained they didnt even get a dev kit with an english set of instructions. Thats making it easy for people to develop for your system. . .
Blu-ray is nice, but its a temporary measure at best, think laser disc. its has far too many flaws to be a viable long term solution. specially when Digital media is making leaps and bounds toward become commonplace. Not to mention optical technologies coming on the horizon that make blu-ray look like a floppy.
as far as why i do not mind paying $39.99 for 13 months of live *(roughly $3.07 a month!) can be summed up in 1 word. Compliance. Microsoft forces compliance with all games that want to use their system. that means achievement compliance, online compliance, truskill, etc. and that is why PSN will never be ahead of Live. while the online experience may be phenomenal for certain games, it is utterly horrid for the rest.
PS3's may be gaining in popularity but i can attribute at least some of that growth to one thing, xbox owners who are finally breaking down and getting a PS3. the reason i got a 360 over a PS3 was the games. simple as that. there was ONE game i wanted to play on PS3 in the early days. there were many i wanted to play on 360. i kept hoping the PS3 exclusives would make me want to buy one. they never did. they lost exclusives left and right. i am considering buying a PS3 for christmas because FINALLY, after this long there are maybe 10 games i want to play that i cannot on the 360. with FFXIII coming to 360, thats one less reason for me to get PS3. i own PS2 and PSP and never even bought a Xbox1 until it was already 4 years old. so i am hardly a MS fanboy. I really wanted the PS3 to be great. it just has yet to impress me.

I thought about doing it as well, but I knew it wouldn't be worth losing money to switch platformS.. and I only have like 30 DLC songs..
I regret getting RB on PS3 now, but oh well. Thinking back I was really close to getting it on 360, the wireless guitar was like the tipping point for me getting it on PS3.
owning RB on PS3 has also turned me against the 360 because I look at them as the evil empire of gaming now.

does it matter how you got it or how he got his 360..........sounds like a total fanboy post.
Not a fanboy, but you're right, I did throw it in as a red herring. I'm a 40 year old Network Admin, for a large company. You tell me how much I should love anything stamped "Microsoft"?
You tell me something. Whenever there's a game console giveaway, it's always a 360. Before you say it's because the 360 is more popular, I beg you to consider that if that were the sole consideration, then you'd see a ton of Wii's put up as prizes for giveaways. That's not the case, it's 360's.
Oh, and my neighbor's new plan? The 360 goes upstairs into his kids room, where it'll collect dust next to the PS2, hooked up to the old 26" TV. Then a new PS3 will join the family in the living room, when the 80gig system comes out in September. It will become the main gaming system, DVD/Blu-Ray player, and home entertainment media box.
Frankly, I don't blame him.

kinda pointless. why do we care why your neighbor is putting his xbox upstairs? was there a reason? does he not like games? as far as a media center, thats moot as i have used my 360 as a media center since i got it. i have never had a problem watchin any of my movies, listening to any of my music, or viewing any of my pictures over my network and with the inclusion of netflix, it will be used even more for movies. (BTW i know you could do it already, but have you USED that method? it was horrid.)

I'm a PS3 owner myself and honestly Rock Band isn't the reason I bought it. I bought it for Metal Gear Solid 4, Resistance and the Blu-Ray player (as well as a few other reasons). Rock Band is just a bonus. I can wait a month for RB2. Selling your PS3 RB just because of the month difference between the 360 and PS3 release dates seems silly to me. The 360 special edition doesn't even come out until the same day the PS3 one does.

EXACTLY how I feel in regards to the PS3. I don't care about Blu-Ray... I just wanted the games that were supposed to be exclusive...

I don't think the OP ever said that. His main reason for doing so was because of his friends. At the time, being in Europe, the only way to play with his friends was to import the game. Now that it became available on the 360, all his friends got it for that system, and he decided to "jump ship" to join his friends. :p

Sure, great terabyte drives - yay.
Too bad 80% of the world doesn't have internet speeds that could handle downloading a video in real high def quality in decent time.
Also, I'm a collector and if it's something like a movie I'd like a physical copy... I'm positive that even once digital media is the standard [2020+, minimum.] they'll have a physical form of it all to satisfy people like myself.
Also, what was it, like '97 for DVD, 9 year cycle until Blu-Ray in 2006, 9 year cycle is 2015.
Seems about right. Skip a whole generation, feel free :D

... in fairness I think internet connection is a huge factor in this. My best internet option where I live is what I'm getting, 30kb/sec download.
I don't know numbers, whatever ignore my exact figures for a moment.
Let's say a 'high def' movie is 1.5gigs - That's approx. 25 hours of downloading, constantly for me to obtain one movie.
I'd say a REAL high def movie, like 1080p, lossless audio etc would be substantially larger, at least like 5gigs... you see where this is going.
I mean sure a mass majority of people have a good internet and therefore makes it possible, but what about the m/b-illions of people in the world who don't have metropolitan level internet?
I don't have the stats nor am I claiming to be an expert and I'm sure someone on here is and will post an essay in retort.

Perhaps this was not the original intent, but this thread has kind of fallen into console war territory. Can't you kids just play nice?
