My descriptions won't be as long as the others, and I'll try to make it short. I went first thing this morning, so no one was around and I got to play for awhile. The mic was there, but the controller it was connected to (if connected at all) was concealed with the 360. I wished I could have tried it out, but wouldn't even if I could have because I didn't want to look like a douche singing with all my heart by myself.

The Guitar: Just like what everyone has said. The neck is sort of bendy, but it's not really an issue when you're playing. The switch thing did get in the way a little, but since I'm not that boisterous when I strum, it wasn't that annoying. I really liked the way the strum bar felt. I did sort of miss the clicking, but it made up for it with a satisfying "chewy" feeling when I strummed. The buttons were fine, but there was a problem with the top green one. It kept sticking, and there wasn't that much rebound from the buttons. It could have been defective. Since the game was set it up yesterday, I don't think it was from player ware. I tried to play the lower buttons, but they were surprisingly hard. It was like playing GH for the first time. The whammy bar was good and felt like the X-plorer. (I've never ever had a problem with the one on my X-plorer and it's always worked like new) I really liked the way the guitar looked and felt. It doesn't feel flimsy and it weighs as much as the X-plorer. All in all, the guitar is great.

The Drums: I know absolutely nothing about drumming. The drumsticks seemed like the same kind I've seen drummers use, but they do have a cheap splintery feel to them. I felt like I had to bang hard on the drums, and they're pretty loud when doing so. I wished they had more bounce to them. The main thing I noticed was that the colors were mixed all around. I didn't realize they didn't follow the green, red, yellow order from the guitar and that sort of tripped me up at times. I couldn't do any more than the easy setting, and I felt horribly un-coordinated with them. I kept missing the drums and swinging at air. A lot of the reason I kept messing up had to do with the wires at the end of the drumsticks and of course that won't be an issue when the game comes out. I wish I could have spent a whole day trying them out and getting better at playing them.

The Game Presentation: AWESOME!!! Everything worked and looked great. The characters are pleasing to look at (nothing like the monstrosities in GH). I liked the film grain effects for some songs. The difficulty settings are much easier (for the guitar anyway), and I loved that. Most of my doubts have been quelled, but there's still the issue that Main Offender is in the game. I really wished I could have tested out the singing part, since that's the the thing I'm most looking forward to. I guess that's it.

On a side note, Guitar Hero 3 was set up right next to Rock Band. I was immediately surprised by how much more heavy and sturdy the guitar felt than Rock Band's. I was also immediately surprised by how sucky the gameplay was, cheifly due to the wireless guitar. Almost none of the buttons registered when I was pressing them. The strumbar it could read somehow, but not the buttons. The difficulty settings seemed the total opposite of RB too. Hard felt like expert. A friend of mine has the game and said that even easy is more like medium now. I'm so glad Rock Band's guitar is wired! No hassle with batteries running out, or buttons not being read.

Just a few thoughts..

As I was playing the drums I was thinking of how loud they were. Not gonna be an issue at home with the surround blasting..but anyway, I pulled it back a bit and was hitting the drums rather lightly. Much less sound and still registered every hit. You may have felt the need to pound them, but you really don't have to. If you hold the sticks the right way you will get a little more bounce out of them. If you hold them with a death grip like a 5 year old holding a fork, you wont get much of a rebound. I don't know how you were holding them, but I have seen the death grip thing on more then one occasion as different people have sat on my throne.

As for the "cheap" sticks..The ones I played with were pretty solid and as authentic as any sticks I have ever played with. But hey, new sticks come cheap.

These may help the noise a bit also. Tama makes em, about $4.00

Cool, what are those made out of? I don't mind the noise personally, but my apartment neighbors might...

Rubber. Which may also give you a bit more bounce as well.

I was probably hitting them harder than I had to. I held the sticks sort of with my fingertips, almost like holding a pencil. Another thing I forgot to say was how fun it is when the free drum parts come up. It's mind-boggling how much awesomeness this game offers.

do you have experience using those? if so id like to know your thoughts on them. everything ive read have been negative. i dont see them sold in stores around here so if they were any good id have to order them online.

someone also mentioned a pair of sticks with the rubber tips already on them.

also wondered if rubber tips hitting a rubber pad would create too much rebound?

Negative? Well, for what they are made for perhaps. The negative about them is your supposed to use them to quiet down your playing, in that respect, on a real set they don't work great. Maybe just a tad quieter. But for this application I would guess, as I haven't used them on the game or a similar pad, instead of a "tick" you'll get a much softer sound. Tap a pencil tip on the table and then the eraser end. I have seen them locally but obviously that meas nothing if you don't live here :p .
