I am selling my ps3 tommarow for a bass guitar.(going to try to learn) Is rock band coming out for ps2 (if so, when), because if it is, I have a win, win situation on my hands.
Anyway, I am really excited about getting my first bass and learning.

Yes, it is coming on the PS2, december 10, I think And dude, don't sell your PS3 for a Bass if you're a beginer. Just buy a bass pack like this...

Less than 200 and everything you need to start, then if you really like it you can upgrade in the future. Wasburn makes decent Basses, not as nice as G&L or Music Man, but still decent stuff.

honestly, most video games bore me now. I have a computer which takes care of all my fps gaming needs, and a ps2 which will take care of my guitar hero/rock band needs. My ps3 collects dust every day, the only thing I use it for is a cd player. I could sit around and wait for it to depreciate in value, or I could sell it, rather trade it, for something that will never go out of date. Besides, video games are so mind numbing, at least learning an instrument will allow me to be creative, and from what I hear, learning an instrument can be really rewarding. On top of all that, I actually want a semi decent bass. There is no point in buying a ****ty one, so that a year later I will have to shell out more money for a good one.

I am not worried I won't like it either. Even with no skills I find playing around on one way more fun than a regular guitar.
(if it sounds like I am trying to rationalize this to myself, you are correct)

Thanks for the info though

Yeah I agree. There is no reason to sell a PS3 to get a bass guitar if you are just going to start out. Why sell something that you are going to get 50 cents on the dollar and buy something you are just learning and may lose interest in shortly.

I would suggest going the route the poster above me suggested as well.

I am not getting 50 cents for the dollar for it, I paid 450 for it used. I am getting about that back for it. I am not the type to lose interest in something right of the bat.

Besides, I would have had to sell it anyway to afford that bass set, so why not get a better one.

Cool man, if that's your plan, stick to it. I play guitar (badly) and it is a hell of a lot of fun, but it's also a lot of work. What kind of setup are you getting?

and if you practice really hard you could get to be as good as this guy...

it's a 5 string ibanez ergodyne EDA905, pretty unique bass if you ask me. The only thing I dislike about it is that it looks a little wierd, but it's got piezo pickups which can really help out the sound, plus its a 5 string which is pretty nice. And I am going to get a practice amp as well. (low budget, so it will probobly be pretty bad) Only thing I am worried about is if I ever need a part I might be out of luck, because they went out of production.

I am excited about this to the point where I will spend about a couple hours a day practicing lol. Thanks for the advice though, and good luck with learning the guitar.

Or....

You could give your PS3 to me for a finder's fee and I can take you to my local SamAsh and show you cheap beginner bass kits... It's a win win!! :o
