It is possible to make one character and have it be a member of multiple bands?

Likewise, can I make a character at home and import him (via GamerTag?) at my friend's house?

Yes. Each character you create can lead up to 10 bands, and also be a member of 10 more.
Your character is local, so no playing through Gamertags.

Very good to hear.

Ack, not very good to hear :(
I know there are going to be times when I'm playing at my friend's house with our 'band' (guitarist, bassist [me], and drummer) but also times when the 3 of us will be playing remotely... Wait, so that means if the three of us play in different combo's we will need different bands for each combo??

Lets look at these scenarios we would play in:
G = guitar at location 1
g = guitar not at location 1
B = bass at location 1
b = bass not at lcoation 1
D = drum at location 1
d = drum not at location 1

(Guitarist's house would be the main group jam place)

GBD
GbD
GBd
Gbd

That's 4 bands, not including other combos where the guitarist might be at another location!

Please, please tell me this isn't the case!

The long answer: On the Xbox 360, you can have multiple gamertags in the same band, as well as multiple characters from the same gamertag in your band playing at the same time. The only restriction is that the leader has to be signed in and playing.

Your song selection is the combination of everyone's progress. So, if I've unlocked In Bloom with a character on my gamertag, and you've unlocked WGFA on yours, they'll both be available to play when our gamertags are signed in and playing together.

If your gamertag is signed in and has a character playing when playing that an achievement is relevant for, then you get the achievement. For example, if four gamertags are playing win a van in BWT, they'll all get that achievement. If one of those players then plays Bass 100% upstrummed on expert, only the bass player will get that achievement (since it's instrument specific)

Did I miss anything?

(I'm being explicit about platform here because it's what I'm most familiar with, I haven't spent as much time with the PS3 version, but whatever restrictions there are there are platform-mandated rather than us-mandated.)

Hope this helps.

That does help, thanks MaineDrummer. There is still some concern over Characters being tied to a machine and not a GamerTag :/

How does the game determine who is the leader. I started a band and when I registered on the website it shows Teh_J as the leader. Also when I linked my gamertag last night the site showed my hometown as London which is what it says in the game.

The characters are tied to your gamertag, but your character data is saved on your local hard drive. Thus if you are at your friends house, how would you access this?

Could you save/copy your Rock Band files onto a memory card and take that with you to your friend? That way you should have access to your characters.

Yes! you can load your gamertag profile, rock band files and take them with you...I've done that several times with the memory card.

You can do this, but not via GamerTag. Your avatars are stored inside your save file. So, you put your save file (and your GamerTag) on a memory card instead of on your hard drive, and then you can take it to your buddy's house whenever you want.

But if you just do a "recover GamerTag" on your buddy's system, that will not recover your Rock Band save file, so none of your musicians will show up. If you really want your musicians to be portable, you have to do what I do and carry a memory card around.
