View Full Version : Allman Brothers/Lynyrd Skynyrd DLC Inevitable/Necessary, IMO

Right off the bat, I'll let you guys know I'm a huge fan of Southern Rock.

Skynyrd, The Allmans, Marshall Tucker , The Outlaws, Charlie Daniels, Molly Hatchet...to name a few, I love em all.

The guitar is just played too darn well by all of these groups to ignore.

Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Allman Brothers Band, are the true (mainstream) stand outs of the genre...So it surprised me when neither was announced to be on the disc for Rock Band.

My reasoning for the DLC is four fold:

1. Skynyrd and the Allmans have both had songs in previous HMX games. (Guitar Hero 2 - Jessica and Freebird)

2. Both bands have large (and tremendous) libraries that would work well with the downloadable album format.

3. Their songs would work well in Rock Band.

4. There are only 3 "southern rock" songs coming on the disc.

So, as a fan, I hope that my "guess" is right :D .

A few of my picks for each band:

The Allman Brothers Band:

No One to Run With
Ramblin' Man
Back Where It All Begins
One Way Out
Ain't Wastin' Time No More
In Memory of Elizabeth Reed
Blue Sky
Whipping Post
Trouble No More
Southbound
Revival
Wasted Words
Midnight Rider

If you want to seriously listen to some BEAUTIFUL guitar work, you listen to any of these songs, especialy the first 10.

Now for Skynyrd, seriously I could name 30 or 40 or so. So any song HMX picks will be fine.

But I would definitly include, That Smell and I Know A Little, oh and Gimme Three Steps...ok I better stop before I rattle off 20+

Go here to preview each group's songs:

That site ^ is www.Last.fm , it tracks the songs you play on your computer/mp3 player(although you gotta install something on your mp3 player), and charts your most listened to Songs and Artists.

Not gonna lie, Skynyrd is #3 and The Allmans are #4 for me :D , behind The Beatles and Led Zep

I wholeheartedly agree with the southern rock sentiment. I would also love to see some Ozarks Mountain Daredevils (Jackie Blue, Chicken Train) and Creedence Clearwater Revival (just pick a song, any song, they all rock). But again, one mans opinion.

I'm not a huge fan of Southern Rock, but I still like a few songs by these guys.

Whippin' Post would be totally awesome. And I like Sailin' Cross the Devil's Sea, although that's not a very well known song.

As for Skynyrd, I can't believe you didn't mention Call Me The Breeze.

And if I could pimp my own favorite Southernish Rock band, I've heard Kansas's first three albums described as "Prog Lynyrd Skynyrd" and they're pretty awesome. Down the Road (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WsfiUnH0so) would be perfect for Rock Band, and Child of Innocence (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I44xJLn20hA), Icarus (Borne on the Wings of Steel) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBRj7AF8YjQ), Belexes and The Devil Game are just as rockin'.

:(

screw Molly Hatchet?!

Flirtin' With Disaster
Whiskey Man
Dreams I'll Never See (a cover of the Allman Brothers Song, which is one of the few covers that is actually better than the original)
Bounty Hunter
Gator Country - - !!
Fall of the Peacemakers - great song
Edge of Sundown - great song
The Creeper
It's All Over Now (another cover)

These 9 as DLC would make me :D :D

They're most known for Flirtin', but I looked into em a little more a while back and found a nice chunk of music my library was missing :)

I'm completely with you on teh southern rock thing. Was anyone else as excited as I was when Green Grass & High Tides was announced?

I think some were.

But most never heard of the song or The Outlaws

Yes, but within nine minutes of opening YouTube, I was as excited as hell.

ughhhhh ramblin man

what a song

But the same thing could be said about 60's rock, or psychedelic rock.

1. They've been in previous HMX games
2. Many 60's bands have huge discographies.
3. There songs would OWN in Rockband
4. There is only one 60's song in this freakin' game.

But...

I'm not saying Southern Rock should be overlooked until Psychedelic Rock is in the game, I'm saying they should both be in the game.
