Rock Band to be Scarce this Holiday
EA says if you don't line up on day one, you won't be rocking on Christmas.
by Daemon Hatfield
November 1, 2007 - During Electronic Arts' Q2 2008 Earnings Conference Call today, CEO John Riccitiello warned that supply for Rock Band would not meet demand this holiday season and even into next year.
"If I were you, on the 19th of November I would get in line outside of your favorite retailer," Riccitiello told investors. "We've got a lot of inventory coming, and my expectation is it will sell through.
Riccitiello said unless you pre-order Rock Band or get in line on launch day, "unless you have a buddy that works at one of our retailers you're not gonna have it at Christmas."
Electronic Arts anticipates struggling to meet demand well into the new year, as well.
"This is definitely not a sprint. We're not going to be able to put enough inventory to meet demand in North America and Europe this calendar year or this fiscal [year]."
EA's current fiscal year ends March 2008.

I don't even have a 360 yet and I've pre-ordered this thing. Scarcity will not be an issue.

I wouldn't be surprised at all, it's probably related why no hard info on getting the peripherals seperate, they just can't make them fast enough.

In an ideal world, yes. I remember I went to go pick up a copy of NCAA Football 08 for PS3 and this guy in front of me wanted a copy of All Pro Football 2k8 for the 360 that came out the same day the guy at the counter gave away one of the pre-orders to that guy.
I'm pretty sure thats not standard practice, but it does happen every now and again.
I'm sure alot of video game places might be doing midnight releases on that Monday night because of 3 huge games coming out that day Mass Effect (360), Uncharted (PS3) and Rock Band (both), so as long as they get in as many shipments to cover the pre-orders you should be all set. Especially if you go at midnight if they are doing release like I mentioned.

If GameStop gives my pre-order away, I'll go Tom Cruise on them and complain until they give me a copy and lick my feet!

I went to my local gamestop to pay off the rest of my bundle and I asked if they were going to have a midnight release. Of course this is all hearsay, so take it with a grain of salt, but dude said that they did one for GHIII and only had 10 people showed up. They already have 42 orders for RB...I'm not suggesting it will be like that for every store...but apparently at this one it will be big...
And when I went to best buy to check out the demo, and there were a lot of copies of GHIII available...

I already got mine pre-ordered and getting shipped to my house on release day (hoping before but probably not gonna happen). Did cost a little bit more though... it cost $41 extra than the normal $170 price.

Does Amazon guarantee they'll have it in stock if you pre-order? Or is it more of a "you're first in line when we get it from our supplier; sorry that won't be until January" kind of thing? I couldn't tell from their site...anyone with knowledge/experience with Amazon pre-orders?

I have a huge finance test Tuesday, which is good and bad. I'm hoping for no midnight release, only because it will likely lead to failure on the test. And at grad school here, if you fail, you can get kicked out of school. So that'd be no fun.

I think Djimon Hounsou is a good actor. And I base that on only seeing him in 3 movies (I think).

I have 2 preorders (Amazon and EBgames.com). I'm not taking any chances with one screwing up or not being able to fulfill the preorders at launch. If I end up with two, I might take the guitar and/or drums from one of them and sell the remaining gear at a discount for someone who can't afford the whole shebang.

looks like an opportunity to resell on ebay for triple or more of the retail price.

I couldn't tell from their site...anyone with knowledge/experience with Amazon pre-orders?I've never really had an issue when pre-ordering from Amazon they usually have a set amount in their computer of what they know they're going to get and they seem to realize how many of these things are being order being the quote they put up which states:
"Purchase limit policy
As you may know, Rock Band is in great demand, and the initial industry supply will be limited across the U.S. In an effort to provide as many customers as possible with the opportunity to purchase Rock Band, we are limiting the number of Rock Band customers can purchase. As a result, each household may only purchase up to 1 copy of Rock Band. Once inventory is
available, we will evaluate the purchase limit policy and implement changes as needed."
So I don't think they will have a problem obviously you wont have it on release date unless you use overnight shipping though. I pre-order 2 Nintendo Wiis from them when they came out and I got both of them right on time. So I doubt they will have an issue with this if they didn't with that.

I think it's disgusting that people do that. You can find GHIII for the Wii on eBay thanks to people taking advantage like that.
I am planning on getting RB for the PS2, no instruments. I don't think I'm going to have a problem, based on what I'm seeing with GHIII.
