the Ion drum set is selling for 300$ and is proving to be a great choice for serious drummers
also, for those who want the third cymbal, thats 45$, coming in a few weeks
but for those who plan to use it as a real drum set, u might need some decent cash
The Ion drum set Website recommends the DM5 drum brain, which averages about 345$
thats 645$ total
the website also said that plenty of drum modules take 1/4 outputs, which is what the Ion set is
Does anyone know a cheaper option for a 1/4 output drum module?
i think if its 300$ for a Game controller, it should come with a Module

It comes with a game controller module, which will plug into your X360/PS3/etc.
If you wanted to convert it into a real edrum kit, you would need to get a real e-drum brain, like the DM5. But you do NOT need that to play the game with this kit.

I'd recommend watching ebay and/or craigslist for one. Odds are you won't find one cheaper than $150 or so even if you find a good used one.

Honestly if you are looking for a real e-drum kit the ION's are not the way to go at all. It is basically a game controller, they are very poor quality drums and always have been and I really doubt ION changed their quality issues of the past just for this kit. Remember also that Guitar Hero World Tours drum controller has a MIDI Input to use actual e-drum kits, so you may want to consider a better kit and wait for their release. A great e-drum beginner kit is the Yamaha DTXpress line of drums, you want more professional gear go with Roland.

No, that's a drum machine, not an edrum brain. Usually brains will say "module" in the product name. If it says 'drum machine', 99% of the time it's not what you're looking for.
And I completely agree with everything wickedbadz just said.

Most (if not all) edrum brains have a MIDI Out port. You'd plug a Midi cable into that, and plug the other end into the GW:WT drums.

Don't waste time or money buying a drum brain, the RockBand2 software will have a freeplay mode within itself, where you can assign numerous different sounds to each of the pads and cymbals, exactly like an electronic drum brain would.

Yeah but i guess people who buy this thing also want to play drums without rockband.
I also had my first drumexperience with rockband and now i want a real set. But then again it s annoying that a real set wouldn t work with rockband and you still have to play with a ****ti one. So now i m planing to get this set, to play with it in rockband and without.

Most of the people who are real drumers, and many of us who fancy ourselves as real drummers, agree that:
If your primary purpose for puchasing a set is to play the drums, and you want to maybe also use them with rockband don't buy the Ion kit. Buy something like the Yamaha DTXplorer or the Hart Dynamics Prodigy (if you want something cheap) or a Roland TD-9sx (if you want something better); then pick up a MIDI converter for it (like the GH:WT drums, or the dude that makes the kickbox for the PS3)
If your primary purpose is to play rockband, then by all means buy the Ion kit, but you're probably better off just using the built-in rockband drum trainer/freeform player until you can buy a real kit.
The reason is, by the time you buy all the crap to make the Ion kit a kit, you've probably spent anywhere from $600-800 depending on how lucky you were at picking up some good used stuff. You can just buy a nice new/used version of the kits above for that much, and then pick up a MIDI converter.
And keep in mind that I've preordered the Ion kit, and I have a home-built collection of Roland v-drums, so it's not like I'm ripping on the Ion kit for some irrational hatred for it.
Good luck to you.
