I don't hate the song itself but how I can't hit those fast notes in a continous stream on hard. I am using both sticks on the blue and red pad in those parts but I can never get them down! For Here It Goes Again I can't nail the red and yellow, bass notes, and then red and yellow again for a continous stream.

I share my frustration but with Run to the Hills.
Anyway, there's the Practice option. Just concentrate to hit every Red and Kick note.

I agree. when that hi=hat/snare beat start doing that weird thing, I always mess that up.
but its still a blast to play, and one of the funnest songs to sing.

I know,I know. The problem really is that at first I can get the bass and yellow and red notes for 1/4 of the way but then my feet get the urge to hit bass in the same spot as the yellow in red notes.

Wave of Mutilation was a huge stumbling block for me on hard, then I breezed through it on my expert career.
I've always found that playing a song I can't get in multi with some friends to help me limp through is more beneficial then practise mode's ever been (this is more of a personal thing though).

Yes I have had to me. Although I can only get 4 stars (almost at five), My friends always help to get the band I have (called Reemix!) five stars in the end of a lot of songs. Now don't get me started with Go With The Flow!

You're not the first who's had trouble with these things, I know I did. All I can see is keep practicing that. You don't even need to be playing to practice it, in fact.
Take a look at Thrasher if you want to see how bad it gets.

A lot of people have been talking about Thrasher.

Wave of Mutilation is an awesome song to train on. It was a big goal for me to five-star this song on Hard, and it took me about a week to get it down. It is short, but has three key techniques to work on that are important to being a successful drummer:
1) The quick triple-blues that are inserted into the main beat, but require you to briefly bear down with both sticks on a single pad and then get back
2) The alternating red-yellow / kick beats, which seem simple but were extremely difficult for me to maintain through all the measures
3) The long snare drum roll
And yes, I did use practice mode to slow it down and develop good habits. Getting these techniques down was extremely satisfying, and made me start feeling like a real drummer!

I hate it when there are tons of bass pedal notes. My foot always gives out and I get off beat, even though I am good with rhythm. I sit further back from the drums so I can stretch my leg out further to hit the fast bass pedal notes.

I hate practicing, I only do it as a last resort. What's worked for me when I'm stuck on a song is to just give it time and not worry about it. Play other songs, start the Expert campaign, or even just take a break from drums altogether. I was stuck on Go With the Flow for a long time, but I took a break from drums and played guitar for a couple weeks and then played on Expert for a while, and when I tried Hard again I was able to finish the rest of the campaign in one sitting.
Back when I was stuck on Wave of Mutilation, I think I cheesed my way through it by not using overdrive and not hitting the pedal notes in that section. It's pretty short, so as long as you can play the rest of the song, you shouldn't fail. After working my way further in the campaign, I was able to play Wave of Mutilation straight up. But when it's standing between you and the next tier, don't let your pride get in the way.

I found that I could keep the beat of the bass by rocking my body back and forth, forward --> hit pad, back --> hit pad and kick. Eventually I got the rhythm down, and now I can just do it without the rocking back and forth.

That's exactly what I did. I didn't even post it cuz it sounds kind of ridiculous.

surely does! lol!
yeah, that part in wave of mutilation red/blue -kick- red/blue -kick- red/blue -kick
or however it goes can be tough to keep the tempo on. the same thing for the same pattern in go with the flow. once youre able to play it though, they are a blast. i love those sections.

When I first played this song, it was annoying. Now it is one of my favorite drum songs. And besides In Bloom, the only one I can't gold star in the first 3 tiers. I always have a pad drop or make a dumb mistake. Still, for some reason I don't mind replaying it over and over while other songs make me tired of them.
I still am on the fence about Debaser since it looks similar.

I know exactly what your talking about. I use to have that same problem, it was where I would just hit two notes and not hit the foot base. It was enough to get through. But now I actually hit them. It just takes practice, I won't be the first to tell ya and it is true though.

I got through Maps using the same method. I couldn't keep that constant rhythm of kicks up through the whole song if I just moved my foot, I kept getting lost, but if I bobbed my whole body in time with the kicks I could do it. It sounds like a ridiculous thing to do, and I certainly looked dumb doing it, but it worked and it helped me to get to the point where I didn't need little tricks to play well.

Maps is hard too. Now did Harmonix put some of the harder songs in the beginning to help people out or something?

The quick triple-blues that are inserted into the main beat, but require you to briefly bear down with both sticks on a single pad and then get backFor triples I just play them one handed and let the stick bounce. This technique is also useful on Maps. However, learning to jump around like you are doing is great for songs later in the tour. Playing in lefty mode is also a great way to strengthen up the left arm / hand for playing faster strings of notes.
I found that the bass-drum-bass-drum patterns immediately improved with an aftermarket pedal (because I could feel when I was 'hitting' the bass drum).

I never found Maps hard, because basically it's always the same bass beat for the entire song. You should try Indestructible if you think Maps is hard because of the bass. :D

One thing I can suggest for any repetitive beat is not to skip the bass entirely but hitting it in an alternate fashion. Instead of trying to keep the drums-kick-drums-kick-drums-kick beat, and instead of just keeping a drums-mute-drums-mute-drums-mute tempo, keep a drums-kick-drums-mute-drums-kick. It will be much easier because you have time to think about each kick, while you can go on beating the drums without thinking too much about them. And also it will help you getting used to using the kick in this kind of beat.
Also, remember that some songs use this alternate beat on HARD, but on EXPERT use the full chart with the hi-hat or cymbal beating each 4/4 beat and the snare and kick alternated, which is far easier in terms of coordination.

On the RB set I find it too stressful to hit the triples that way, I don't have the rebound I need. When I use my Yamaha kit to play RB, however, I definitely do. I have to say that even so, I like to use both hands to hit some triples, such as in Maps.

This by far is my biggest problem when i'm drumming. i can start fine but somewhere along the way i lose it. I've practiced and practiced and can't get it down. i've gotten 5 stars on the song on Hard but i think i can get a much better score once i finally get that sequence down.

I quite like the triples in Maps, and the constant pounding of the bass drum is really easy. The only part that screws me up is when the bass drum switches to every other beat, then back again.
And I agree with Mr Tate, even with gum rubber pads there isn't enough rebound to play the triples with one hand consistently. I can do doubles that way but triples always screw me up. Plus it's fun to play the song exactly like my avatar on screen is.

Yeah, I mean, you can hit triples but it's all about the wrist on the not-so-much-rebounding surface of the original kit (even with pads on) and I don't like stressing it too much.

Keep at it. I found that to be one of the most challenging for me as I was progressing through hard. That song took me about two weeks to 5-star on hard and I played it A LOT. In the process I got a lot better at other songs w/o trying.

Going back through hard trying to improve my scores.
5 passes through this dam song ..... SOOOo close to 5 stars. It is funny I was using the rocking method and then I saw it in this post. Must of have ESP or something.
