Thanks to RRGaits (see thread: http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?t=65526) I came with an idea:

Rock band emoticons!

I mean, the notes, we could explain a lot easier (well, maybe taking a few minutes on it) by explaining any problem with a certain chart with emoticon notes. (those little colored bars and the large orange Kick note)
