Either name a decade or if u can be hardcore and nail the exact year do it. say why and ish like that
Me personally i think '77 was an awesome year for punk with johnny thunders, ramones, the clash, new york dolls, blondie, and the dead boys.
besides that the 80s were good for sum pop and hardcore punk
and the early to mid 90 had sum great alternative like third eye blind, marcy playground, semisonic, and of course the greatest band to ever live "bum" "bum" "bum" NIRVANA!!!
so rep ur era foo!

The late 60's were great for classic rock because Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, and Rush all formed and Hendrix continued rocking out (until he died of course). The 70's were even more amazing for classic rock.

I say my favorite decade would have to be the early-to-mid 90's. Close seconds are the 60's and 70's. My favorite year would probably...... I can't choose, heh.

The fact that they are all black? Lol, what does that mean? Anyway Eminem is not black. And no, I don't think he's a "wannabe black". I don't understand why people reserve a music genre or a kind of attitude to a skin color. There are incredibly good songs in rap and there are incredibly bad songs in rap. Just because I don't like rap doesn't means it's bad.
I am really tired of hearing people complain about rap in general. Complain about stupid lyrics in general. The main reason why people hate this genre so much is because it's a fashion to hate rap. And I mean it. In north america, you have the choice: you praise rap or you hate rap.
It has nothing to do about the music itself but only about the look people want to have. I am tired of this. I am tired of hearing people bashing on rappers for reasons they stole from the mass. These people try to go against the mainstream, to be different, but even then, they only stick to a new model. Think by yourself, don't suck other people's prejudice.
I know I sound condescending. I have prejudice too, even though I hate them. I have prejudice against jews, for exemple. I hate myself each time I think that they are all rich and that they love money. But even if I have this prejudice, I still know it's not true. It's exaclty the same when I see rappers on the street. Many stupid thoughts come to my mind. But I know it's not true and I don't go on forums to spread out how stupid I can be sometimes.

Actually, I hate it because it takes no talent, it sounds horrible to me, and mindless swarms love it. It's sold to people who are too stupid to know anything else.
I've avoided all talk of or listening to rap with a passion for the past three years, and anytime I actually am stuck listening to it it IMMEDIATELY puts me in a bad mood. It bothers me, it really, honestly does.
And I'm supposed to not hate rap because everyone else is doing it? That's just ****ing silly. How is that thinking for yourself? "LOL I'M GOING TO NOT DO WHAT EVERYONE ELSE IS BECAUSE I'LL BE BY MYSELF." how about I just go with how I feel because it's how I feel?
People can like what they want, but we can hate what we want too, and rap BLOWS.
Anyway, I'm going to agree with 1973, 1971 is a close second.
And the best era of rock music was late 60's and early 70's.

Tommy, Say It Loud, I’m Black and I’m Proud, Stand!, first Led Zeppelin album, Trout Mask Replica, Bayou Country, Neil Young, the last Beatles album, Woodstock....
It's the center of that amazing 67-71 period where both the 60's legends (read : Beatles, Beach Boys) are active, and producing, and the 70's legends start their career and/or grow up (Led Zeppelin, The Who, Pink Floyd)

I guess my comment was not really clear. I don't think everyone should like rap or whatever. Dislike everything you want, I don't care. As long as you don't believe your opinions are fact and as long as you don't think something just because the mass thinks so.
And also, don't generalize when it doesn't apply. You said making rap takes no talent, well that's generalizing. I know a canadian french band that's called Loco Locass and they make amazingly good lyrics. I don't know any rock artist who can master the words like they do. And yeah, I know who Bob Dylan and Jim Morrison are lol. Maybe that's a talent that doesn't appeal to you. Maybe you don't care. But still, it's a talent.

all great years, no doubt about it, but for me, early 90's is the clear winner. specifically as we were asked for 1 year- 1991! not gonna wiki the whole damn thing like some but http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1991_in_music covers it, some noted events....
Nirvana's Nevermind, Pearl Jam- Ten, Followed immediately by other grunge bands like Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, and Soundgarden and the Red Hot Chili Peppers broke through to the mainstream with their critically and commercially acclaimed Blood Sugar Sex Magik
Perry Farrell organizes the first Lollapalooza tour as a farewell for his just-dissolved band, Jane's Addiction
the list does go on, but i urge you to have a read.. it might have been over look, but as Kurdt once put it, Grunge is dead!! (pity that )

For me it was 1996. It was the birth of my musical discovery....and puberty. I bought my first CDs. I began listening to the music I do today, and then some. Marilyn Manson and Nine Inch Nails became my musical gods during that turbulent time of growth. I'm a pleasant young man now. :D
Interesting events:
KISS reunite. Original members Ace Frehley and Peter Criss surprise with an appearance on the American Music Awards. The band took to the stage in full makeup and costume for the first time since 1980.
February 13 - Tupac Shakur released the first ever rap double album, All Eyez on Me. The album is one of the most influential albums in hip hop history. All Eyez on Me achieved platinum sales in just four hours and reached #1 on the Billboard 200 charts.
April 3 - M.C. Hammer files for bankruptcy.
July - The Smashing Pumpkins drummer, Jimmy Chamberlin, is arrested for possession of a controlled substance. The other band members fire him because they said his "insidious battle with drugs and alcohol" had nearly ruined everything for the band.
August 1 - MTV2 is launched. It eventually stops playing music videos too.
August 6 - The Ramones play their last ever show at Lollapalooza.
September 7 - Rapper Tupac Shakur is shot four times in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, while leaving the MGM Grand hotel after seeing the Mike Tyson versus Bruce Seldon boxing match, in what is apparently a drive-by shooting.
October 30 - Slash officially leaves Guns N' Roses.
Sheryl Crow's self titled album is banned from Wal-Mart stores because of the lyric "Watch out sister, watch out brother/watch our children while they kill each other/with a gun they bought at Wal-Mart Discount Stores". :D
Singer Tori Amos is sued when a man crashes his car after being distracted by a billboard advertising her album. The billboard featured a photo of Amos breastfeeding a piglet.:D
David Bowie's single "Telling Lies" becomes the first song offered as a free digital download by a major record label (Virgin Records).
Albums released that year that I care(d) about:
Rage Against The Machine - Evil Empire
Metallica - Load
Nirvana - From the Muddy Banks of the Wishkah
Tool - Ænima
Marilyn Manson - Antichrist Superstar
Spice Girls - Spice (puberty damnit!)

It's ignorant to say that rap takes no talent. That is what irritates people. Say you don't like it, say you think it sounds horrible, that is your opinion. But to say it takes no talent is ridiculous. Just because what is on the radio sucks, and yes, FloRida, Soulja Boy, etc. are awful, it doesn't mean all rap is horrible. I could turn on modern rock radio, hear Nickelback, Fall Out Boy, Panic At The Disco, and Three Days Grace right in a row, and immediately decide that all rock sucks, takes no talent, and all sounds the same.
In my opinion, there are 6 albums people should listen to before they say they hate rap, because they cover a wide range of sounds in rap and are landmarks in the genre:
Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique
A Tribe Called Quest - The Low End Theory
Public Enemy - It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back
Wu-Tang Clan - Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)
Nas - Illmatic
N.W.A. - Straight Outta Compton
Here are some songs that prove rap isn't just a bunch of talentless unintelligent fools:

On topic, my favorite year for music is easily 1997, for a ridiculous amount of amazing music, including:
Ween - The Mollusk
Radiohead - OK Computer
Modest Mouse - The Lonesome Crowded West
Built To Spill - Perfect From Now On
1994-1997 was the best period for music, imo.
