Guitar that's mean.. Anyone with a good head on their shoulders knows how a forum works.. =P
Dyan, I myself played a full drumset for a while. I started playing on the snare in my schools precusion. Then I move to the coolest drum, teh 1337 bass drum. Then eventually got on a drum set.. then worked on a guitar for a bit and now I rest comfortably on a Bass guitar. Why? Bass Guitar >>>>>>>>>>>>> All other instruments. Werd.
I'm hoping my experience on the drum sets will transfer to playing rock band... even if I'm a little rusty.. Well.. welcome to the forums.

I have a Yamaha DTXpress IV Special Electronic kit in my room and a Yamaha Recording Custom kit out in the garage with its sound shell. Been playing on the kit for about 11 years now, and percussion overall for about 13.

Yea, I had a drumset. Sold it. Picked up guitar. Dumbest thing I've ever done.
The selling of the drums that is... picking up guitar was probably the best thing I've ever done, but I should have kept the drums, too. That's why I'm jonesin' for this game.
I play bass, too (How can bass be more fun than guitar? I'm not saying guitar is more fun. I find it equally entertaining). I'm also taking up piano. That's fun as **** if you get the hang of it. I sing also, but everyone sings.
Eventually I'll experiment with every instrument I can get my hands on. As for which instrument is most fun, I have no answer, I find every instrument to be very fun so far.

Don't buy a real drum set first.
If you think about it, RB's drum set is just a simple version of a real drum set. Master RB's four pads and bass pedal while saving up your money, and by the time you get the real set, you'll be able to do basic beats. Basic beats are all you need, then you get to throw in some advanced stuff with different sized symbols, tom-toms and whatnot.
And again, I'm not saying guitar is better than any other instrument, but if your really really into guitar (or your just a hippie), you'll find you can express your feelings through it, where with drums its more difficult to do that.

ok,and even if I could play RB drums on expert it would still be different because a good drum set I think has 5 drums and a couple cymbols

Yea all depends on what your definition of good drum set is too. But a snare, bass, 3 or 4 tom-toms, a hi-hat, and 2 or 3 symbols should do the trick. Especially for a beginner. I also highly recommend a cowbell. They add tons of fun haha.

Yeah, I paid about that for this set back in 2000ish. For the price it is an excellent set.

I have always wanted to play the drums. I just never was sure if I could do 4 different things with all my limbs. RB gives me the opportunity to see if I can even coordinate that. If so, and I do well, I will then buy a real drumset.
If nothing else, this game will teach me patterns and the ability to multitask with my hands and feet. :)

In HS and college I did a lot of symphonic percussion--4-mallet marimba and timpani stuff. Most of my drumming career has been marching though. Tenors/Snare in HS and College, as well as tenors in DCI drum corps and WGI independent indoor drumlines. I teach/write for several HS's and caption head a PIO indoor line now but don't get to play that much outside of local symphonies and orchestras.
I did play set a LOT in HS though. Had a Pearl 6p Session Series birch set that I love but it's in storage now--can't really set up a set in apartments.
