Rockband.com should have a feature where you can try to chart your own music. Pop in a cd and see if you can create a good chart for it.

Now of course you won't be able to play them, but you can submit them to Harmonix to see what they think.

I think this could lead to some cool songs possibly coming for DLC that Harmonix may not have thought of. Also might keep the price of DLC lower since alot of the work will be done by the fans.

What do you think?

Not a bad idea but...

They are going to get songs submitted that no one at Harmonix owns the CD for...so how can they evaluate the charts? Besides, there would be so much crap submitted that it would be a miracle if they found any good ones. And it wouldn't lower the price of DLC at all- I would guess that the fraction of the total price that actually comes from the work needed to create it is negligible compared to all of the licensing and other fees that have nothing to do with Harmonix.

Fretting a song likely takes no more than a few hundred dollars' worth in labor.

Yeah, coming up with the initial chart is ultimately the easy part (probably). Then they still have to do the audio engineering for it, play test it, etc. which takes way more time.

Maybe if you want some custom-quality trash it's that low. But if you want Harmonix quality across 4 difficulties, co-op, etc, I would humbly suggest that your estimate is way low.
