I just got back from playing at the San Francisco Best Buy, it was awesome, the drums are amazing. The guitar felt a little flimsy however, and I'm not sure if its because its just been battered around as store demo or not. Also for some reason it took me a while to get my timing/strumming down. Perhaps i've gotten used to the more forgiving Guitar Hero III, or maybe the LCD's had screen lag, or maybe the guitar, again, had been beaten up by other customers. I suppose i got used to it after a while, and i'm confident once I get my own it will be no problem, but my overall impression of the guitar itself wasn't great. It just felt a little flimsy, creaky, and not as solidly built as GH III wireless. I'm hoping it was because it was the store demo. What are your impressions?

ps. i'm even more excited for the game now after having played it.

I feel the exact same way! I'm more excited for the game now that I've played it, but was not impressed by the guitar. I think you're right though. It's just a store demo, probably been battered around by little kids. I'm not too worried about it. :D The strum bar, though, like you said, felt flimsy, and I missed a lot of notes because it wasn't strumming. I was failing MEDIUM songs because it didn't strum when I wanted to (and, for reference, I'm on Hanger 18, Expert right now on GH II). Anyway, overall I was not impressed by the guitar. I hope by launch it'll be sturdier... but I also hope they don't wait until the wireless comes out next year to fix the problem. :( )

I agree the drums were amazing, the guitar however felt very plasticy (Is that even a word?)

Yeah, the drums were probably the best part. HMX really hit that nail on the head.

Someone was complaining that the neck of the Strat is really flimsy and twists in your hand. I remembered that when I played it today, so I gave it a little twist when I used it. The neck actually feels really sturdy, so I guess that was just a defective one.

My favorite part about the guitar was the buttons. They don't click and they are more flush with the neck like the GH III Les Paul, and are closer together. It's so much easier to slide with them and they're big, too.

The solo buttons were another story. I got really pissed off trying to use those because they're so small! I had trouble hitting the right buttons. For example, I'd hit a green-orange chord instead of yellow-orange (yes, yellow-orange, not red-orange) because my fingers would be spread to where yellow-orange normally is with the bigger buttons. Plus, moving my hand from way up at the top to way down at the bottom was kind of difficult.

Really, though, it's all just initial complaints. None of this stuff will last. Once we all get the game, we'll get used to everything quickly and be rocking out with style in no time! :D

When I played Guitar Hero it felt more like a real guitar, the strum bar was the only thing I didn't like, it was weird, no click, and bouncy, I couldn't alt strum at all. The solo keys were awesome for the bonus sections.

I really don't understand why people are finding fault in the RB guitar....I played the demo for about 1 1/2 hours today, mostly on the guitar. I came home, played GHII on PS2 and I felt like I went from a real guitar to a childs toy

Just got back from BB too ... and that was a blast. The Strat guitar was unfortunately broken, so didn't get to deal with it much, but it felt nice. It was quite which I like a lot and the buttons are closer together making it easier to get some of those triples down. The drums were a blast even without the kick pedal. Even on easy it provided a solid challenge to begin with, there will be a learning curve. The TV did have a good deal of lag though which threw the game off, but I am more excited then ever for this game!

Yep, the RB guitar is cheap crap. "Plasticy" is right. But it would have been much different if they had used a thicker plastic. Then it wouldn't have felt so cheap, and wouldnt feel like you could snap the neck off with little effort.

Why would you try to snap off the neck?

This game is amazing. I was watching a guy and his girlfriend both play 'In Bloom'. He played Easy and had no rhythm. So, after making my jokes about him, his girl played on Medium and was much better. I stepped up next and tried Expert, it's the only song I can play on real kit. I did well. It was great. So much fun!!! I wanted to play the guitar but it wasn't working. I have to go to another Best Buy in the morning so I'm hoping they have one and the guitar is working. Over all I can't wait 17 more days. It is going to be murder.
Side note: The girl was really good looking and she gave me her number when her boyfriend left. Don't know if it's real, maybe I'll try it this week. Don't really care though just thought I would add that because it's so funny. Rockband helps you get chicks.

Yeah, I totally agree with you. I love the Strat way more than any other GH guitar, but the strum bar just doesn't seem to work right. I think if they changed the inner workings that make it "click" so that it had that "soft click" feel to it, it might hold up better (you know, the feeling of a light switch right as you're turning it on. That kind of smooth "slide" almost rather than click). As it is now, it's just breaking a lot on people.

Maybe it was his sister. ;) :D

No, seriously though, your quote, "Over all I can't wait 17 more days. It is going to be murder," is absolutely true. For all of us. Especially those who have played the demo.

I really have nbo idea what you guys are talking about saying it was flimsy.. I just got back from playing a demo at a local Walmart and the guitar seemed perfect.. The strum bar is my only complaint.. It was a little awkward to use but 3/4 through a song I slowly started to catch on. The guitar seemed very sturdy.. I think it might vary from demo to demo with versions/remodels of the guitar..

The drums... Aw man.. it was a little odd playing drums while standing.. I noticed my left hand consently raising in position to the point of hitting the top rim of the drum pad. I think once you gets a seat it'll work out fine.

If it was his sister they really need to see someone because that family has major issues.

On topic again, I wanted to say I was beating the crap out of the drums. I was at Best Buy for an hour playing and watching people play. Everyone was playing real lightly and worried about breaking it. I stepped up and played hard. I didn't mean to but that is how I play a kit, just hard. It didn't even feel weak. It should hold up well.

Oh, okay, I see. Then... never mind, I'm not even gonna touch that.

Anyway, about the drums, same here. Except with me, it was a bunch of little 2 year olds getting their parents to help them play.

This one little kid was holding the guitar backwards and upside down, trying to get me to help him. I tried to tell him how to hold it the right way, but he didn't seem to understand me so I gave up and played the drums.

It was funny though, because later I was playing guitar again, and I played on hard and medium sometimes (the strum bar was flimsy as discussed earlier, so I wasn't real confident with it). Those songs I played with random people, you'd see on the screen where you choose your difficulty "Easy, Easy, Hard" or "Easy, Easy, Medium". Every time we got to that screen someone would say, "who's playing Medium?," or "who's playing Hard?". I'd say "me", and they'd say, "wow, you're crazy."

I'd always laugh when they say that. :D

It was a concert yesterday. The Best Buy had 4 GHIII areas set up and Rockband. People were running back and forth playing everything. bumbousdude25: I play GHIII on Expert and people say the same thing. Everyone plays either Easy or Medium. On guy had the balls to step up and challenge me to Pro-Face off. We settled on Hard and I picked the song. Cherub Rock and I got 300K. He had like 100K. How do you only get 100K on that song?

Huh. That's never worked for me, though I haven't actually seen any unattached girls watching the Chelsea BB demo...I mean, you'd think the 95% on Tom Sawyer Expert drums would have some effect...
