Hi, I'm rifton, this is my first post on the boards, but I have been lurking for a few weeks. Now, on to my problem.
Gaming, in general, is my biggest hobby, but rhythm games are my favorite genre. Guitar Hero 2 is one of my favorite games of all time, and no doubt I was excited for Rock Band. There in lies the problem, I only own a PS2 and Wii. Sure I could buy the PS2 version of Rock Band, but this whole DLC has me very interested. Particularly Nevermind being one of the availible albums. PS2 (obviously) won't have DLC, but the Wii version could possibly have it, considering that SSB:B just announced stage DLC. Since I can't afford a 360 without putting a serious dent in my college savings, and only a couple other games interest me on the console, it's out of the question. PS3 even more so.
So, should I buy the PS2 version, or wait on the hope of Wii version DLC?
Or just ignore RB for now? :(

This is a tough decision in my opinion i would go for the Ps2 version why ? Well its actually confirmed unlike the Wii version plus we dont know if there is going to be Wii version and besides whats so bad about getting it for Ps2?

My reasons for not getting the PS2 version:
1) No DLC
2) Crappy/no online (Not sure if it even has online.)
3) If a Wii version comes out with DLC, I will be pissed.

I'd say save up your money until you can get a 360 or PS3, and then get RB.

If you really want the DLC/graphics, all the great stuff, just ignore it for now and pick it up when you can move on to next gen.

Well i may have missed any new news, but nevermind has not been confirmed yet ,unless I missed it!but if you're concerned about missing DLC then you might want to up grade to next gen.PS2 will still be the same game same songs with out the online as you probably already no.
I would say go with what you can afford for now,and if you get the extra cash then up grade.

Reason why i wouldnt get the Wii version
1. Online sucks
2. I doubt it since the bundle its what 169.99 more than half the price of the system
3. I dont think it will have full Album downloads

Neither will probably get DLC. If anything they'll get expansion disk and in that case they'd probably both have that.

Make the dent. I did, and I don't regret it. If you enjoy games I would invest in a new system, and get Rock Band with it. Even if there aren't any other games that you buy for the system, you will most certainly get your money's worth from GH and RB alone. I had GH for the PS2, and I bought the 360 version anyway, it's SO much better. GH3 is amazing as well. DLC and online are a HUGE plus as well. I too am saving for college for next fall, but I made the investment, and I don't regret it for a second. Besides, student loans and grants ROCK. DO IT!! You won't be sorry.

It is only $500...

Personnally, I would sell my Wii while everyone is still looking for one (you can sell it easy for the same price thjat you paid), I would then sell my PS2 and all games + accessories while there is still some demand and then I would get a Xb 360 + GH3 and Rock Band.
Once you go next gen, you won't miss your last gen consoles... Also if you don't have an Hi-Def TV, you can get get the VGA cable for your 360 and hook it to your monitor...

I agree. The PS2 is a great system but it's time to move on. RB will probably be the last good game on PS2. DLC is what is gonna make this game go beyond the great game it already is.
Don't sacrifice your future, but if you can...get it for next gen.

I don't have a solution, but I just wanted to send you a note telling you that I feel your pain.
My wife fell in love with Guitar Hero when a friend brought over his PS2 a year ago. She considered picking up a PS2 *just* so she could play that one, single game!
We decided not to buy a PS2 because it was an older system, and was on the way out. Instead, we bought a Wii last Christmas, guessing (correctly) that it was going to become an extremely popular system, and would be good for parties, and noting that Guitar Hero was going to (eventually) come out for the Wii.
So Guitar Hero 2 comes out ... no Wii love. Okay, we're a little frustrated now.
Guitar Hero 3 is announced, but by this time Rock Band is showing its true colours, and we know which way the wind is blowing. Guitar Hero 3 *would* have been our purchase, but the gameplay decisions are not the style of game that we want to play, and Rock Band is *exactly* the game we'd talked about the first night we ever played Guitar Hero. "You know, they should add drums and a mike! Wouldn't it be cool if you could download songs!"
The decision had to be made ... invest in two controllers for Guitar Hero 3 for the Wii, or invest in several controllers *plus* a new system for Rock Band. Furthermore, if we went with Rock Band, we'd have to choose which new system. Go for the PS2 (no downloadable content, older system, but cheap!) or go with a 360 (PS3 didn't have enough titles to make it a consideration).
We decided to simply bite the bullet and pick up a 360.
So our Wii, which we bought a year ago for Guitar Hero, never actually *got* a guitar hero game for it! It grumbles at me from the corner these days, asking me why I never bought it the promised guitars!
Our new 360 now has Guitar Hero 2 on it, and is calmly awaiting Rock Band, and the downloadable content that was promised it.
I feel your pain, mate.
If it is any consolation, though, neither my wife nor I regret picking up our 360 one bit. If downloadable content goes the way we're banking on it going, then RockBand is going to become *extremely* customizable, and we'd hate to be stuck with a PS2 and be unable to tap into that.
Good luck with your gaming search.

Wow, this is tough. I don't want to sell my Wii because I quite enjoy Nintendo 1st party games. The PS2 has little resell value. The only thing that would've increased its value would be GH2, but sadly, it is not in working order. (A bunch of glitched songs) On top of that, it is the big chunky model.
Even though I have a lot of money in college savings, I really don't want to delve too deeply into them.
Hmm, if I sell my blood for 10 weeks straight, I'll have enough, but that seems a little... draining. :\

What I'm doing is buying for 360, then saving up for a PS3 and trading in my 360 version. Currently I can't afford the PS3 but I would much rather have it. I recommend buying for PS2, and saving up the moneh then buying a Next Gen version at first oppurtunity.

If you can go ahead and get one of the net gen systems. If that's not a good option right now, I would recommend picking up the PS2 version. Odds are at least some of the DLC will make it out as expansion discs. I've also heard that the PS2 instruments are going to be the same as the PS3 instruments, so if you upgrade to a PS3 later on you can just buy a game disc to have next gen Rock Band.

First things first: College loans do NOT rock. In fact, they are very much the antithesis of rock. This will become clear to most of us in a few more years. Me? I already know. I already know.
Anyway, I'd certainly suggest living the PS2 version of Rock Band on the shelf as it will inevitably present a neutered experience. This isn't the same as choosing whether or not you should get GH3 on the PS2 (which, I'd recommend if you already have a spare guitar sitting around and just want to rock out with a minimal cost of entry... as did I). Rock Band is a title whose true brilliance lies in the future. I'd consider it to be an investment, one that demands the best experience that you can reasonably get.
Whether or not you get a PS3 or 360 is pretty negligible, (I'm not about to get into another console war ha) but I'd have a hard time recommending Rock Band without at least one of them.

Well, the only real option is to go next gen. But mostly I just came in here to tell you I love your thread title!

Wait till the European release. If no word is said about a Wii version then there is little hope.:( But they might go the route of Guitar Hero and release Rock Band 2 on All systems.
For now all we can do is wait.
And what's with people claiming Wii isn't "next gen". It has more power than the PS2. If anything Wii is the only next gen system. Xbox 360 and PS3 is the equivalent of upgrading your processor and graphics card on your computer. If you consider graphics the sole attribute of a next gen system then buy a dual core processor and an 8800.

If it turns out that you can use the PS2 RB controllers on the PS3 (which would only make sense) I'd pick up the PS2 version, play the heck out of it's 60+ songs, save up the money for a PS3, then trade in the PS2 game disc for the PS3 game disc.
Seems like you'd win now and win later.
